I am going to be taking advantage of the MYW dining plan in August,
and, perhaps, in October. There
are four adults and no children traveling. My grandmother is a light
eater, and I was wondering if
it is withing the guidelines of this program to share either counter
service or table service adult
meals? Many thanks for your advise.

See ya real soon!

I read "sharing" in the response to mean sharing of credits, non-transferrable credits. No, little Joey can't share his TS credit with hungryman Dad.........although he can share his order of chicken fingers  .

I'm sure that's the intent. The non-transferability rules mean each credit is purchased for the use of the person it is purchased for... what that person does with their food once it is sitting in front of them is probably of little concern beyond that person.

So, you guys think that mom and grandma sharing CS and maybe TS would be okay?

As long as both Mom and Grandma are registered in the hotel room with the Dining Plan package, they should be okay (but no guarantees until this mess is cleaned up by information systems changes).

I also read it as no sharing of CREDITS, it doesn't say you can't share the FOOD. What are they going to do, take the fork out of Grandma's mouth?? "No, you can't eat that, it's not on your plate!?!"

Again, sharing the credits or sharing the food?

Sharing the food.....no problem. Sharing the credits.......technically no, but who cares, so long as an adult meal is ordered with an adult credit. They may seperate adult and child credits at some point (or they may not) but they will never track credits by individual person. So, if mom and grammy got to WDW for 5 days and have 10 TS credits, nobody is going to give a fig if mom eats 6 meals and her mom only eats 4. Let's not go overboard with this stuff people.............of course it may be a little late for that  .

I understand the debate of using child credits for adult meals - I can see how this is cheating the system. What I don't understand is who really cares if Grandma goes up and orders a CS meal and an extra drink and sits down with another and shares it. There is nothing wrong with it, it isn't cheating. The only way Disney may lose some money in it, is if sharing the CS meals prevents them from paying for any extra meals during the whole stay. We found not matter whether we shared or not share on the Dining plan, we never spent anymore money on food, we still would always have a few snacks and CS leftover in the end. We aren't 3 meal a day people but I guess for those that are, sharing enables them to get 2 CS and 1 TS a day.

I also can see how sharing TS meals would be a pain, mainly to the server who is barely getting any tip for 2 people sharing one meal plan but since people share all the time at restaurants anyway without being on the meal plan, I can't see to many servers enforcing it unless they really make it mandatory.

Unless we have anything of substance to say about the original post and the Disney E-mail, this thread won't be going on much longer-----

What I want to know is why do people keep emailing Disney about this? I feel like the individuals that frequent this board are single-handily driving Disney crazy! When it comes right down to it, the server/manager is going to be the one that determines whether or not meals can be shared. So go and have a good time and stop worrying about it. :goodvibes

AMEN!! Let's not make a mountain out of a molehill here, people. If people keep calling/emailing Disney about this, they may perceive that they have a problem when in fact it is only a small number of people who have stirred up the pot. :stir:

As far as I can tell, Disney welcomes questions via their web site. That said, I apologize if I offended anyone by sharing this information here. No intentional pot-stirring here, but I will say that every company has policies, and I don't think it's asking too much that they remain consistent. Specifically, it really shouldn't come down to the "server or manager" deciding. The policy should be well-known by any appropriate Cast Members and spelled out clearly to any and all Guests. We aren't folks that are trying to be greedy or take advantage of anything. However, as AP cardholders, DVC Members, DDE cardholders, and an airline Employee who receives the same room discounts as CM's, I felt it important to know exactly if the DDP is an advantage for us--we travel to WDW four times per year.

Not that you asked this particular question, but I can tell you if I had DVC, an AP, DDE and the discount offer to airline employees, no way would I ever do the dining plan.

What I was told by Dining upper management, not CMs at Guest Services, is sharing after meals are purchased with the appropriate credits is fine.

Using the credits to purchase meals for those not on the plan is not.
Using child entitlements to purchase adults meals is not.

Anything else is ok.

Sorry OP -- my response came off a bit flippant. I was only trying to make the point that it does no good to make this type of inquiry because every person that has sent an email to Disney regarding the specifics of the DDP has gotten a different response: some say yes, it's okay to share; others say no, sharing is not allowed. We cannot get a definitive answer because they will not give one! There is absolutely no consistency at all...so, therefore, it *will* come down to the individual server/manager. For the most part, I doubt they will deny anyone the request to share because that's the easiest thing to do when you've got a busy restaurant filled to capacity. Head 'em up and move 'em out (whether it be on one meal credit, or two!).

:lmao: Oh Lord if they tried that with my 2 1/2 year old DS I think he'd bite them! He doesn't do well with others trying to take food from his plate and will scream and throw a fit if you try! Especially if it's M&Ms!
