We are going Jan 1-6th, and the only rooms available are at Saratoga Springs. Could this be true? Is it really going to be that crowded? Has anyone gone at this time? Well, the good thing is that the parks will be open late so we can get
alot done in the late hours.

I've moved this over to Resorts where you will get more solid answers.

A recurring theme seems to be that many schools don't go 'back' til January 7th.. So it is pretty safe to assume that many people are staying til the 5th or 6th.

I don't have any personal experience with that time of the year, but it looks like if you drop off Jan 1st, there's other resorts available, so I'm guessing the crowds will drop off later in the week.

Sometimes I really have to second guess the Disney Reservation System. We were actually at the resorts and tried to get a room in October, and they said that everything was booked in all resorts except for some expensive suites.....I just couldn't believe it!!! As we were driving out we stopped at the Coronado Resort just too see if they had a room...we walked in, asked and...guess what, they did, had us booked and in our room within 15 minutes!!! Go figure!!

Since you are not down there, I would just keep calling!!

I agree, I have been to Disney for NY several times - this will be my third
and the crowds are usually much better after the 2nd. Still the Disney
reservations are showing full. Try the direct website for the swan and
dolphin, last time I checked that way they were avaliable.

Yes, I bet it's January 1st that is preventing you from booking anything else. The crowds drop off dramatically on the 2nd, so you will have one day of crowding.

Maybe you could book Saratoga on the 1st and then move to another resort for the 2nd on.

We have run into the same problem for MLK day. We couldn't get in many of the resorts for the whole week but we think it's probably due to MLK day being in the week.

Good luck!

WDW resorts always have vacancies! They are never sold out! The Disney CRO does not control all of the available resort rooms. Disney sells off blocks of rooms to various travel agencies (i.e. AAA, Priceline, Orbitz, etc.). Those travel firms have a specified period in which they must sell or forfeit the option on the rooms.

If they don’t meet their deadline, the rooms revert back to Disney for sale. What I’m saying here is either keep calling yourself or (better yet) find a good travel agent that knows how to book rooms at Disney. Rooms are always available but you have to know where to look. There are several other room holdback scenarios as well. An experienced travel agent that knows Disney can often help.

This is not true anymore. We went the same week this year and the parks were packed all week (as were the resorts). Same will be true next year, since New Years Day falls on a Tuesday. Many schools, along with Great Britain and South America, have off until the second week of January, so be prepared for crowds!

Both may well be true- crowds will drop off after 1/2, but the parks will still be crowded, and the resorts may well be full. Remember last year, WDW operated at something like 85% capacity all year. That means that what will drop off is the number of folks who are staying off property and the number of locals visiting WDW.
