No room at the Inn!!

Yikes. I was hoping to book at the 7 month window for a studio Dec 13 to Dec 20.

Hope I can get something!

So... I have to say.. I don't buy into the Buy where you want to stay thing either... Yeah.. I am new .. yeah... I bought at SSR. and I think it was the best choice I could have made. I happen to LOVE SSR.. and have stayed there for a week. I also was able to get not once.. but 2x already all 5 nights I wanted at the bcv without going onto a wait list.... as little as 3 months out.. . also.. got BWV at one month out... but.. don't worry all you BWV lovers out there.. don't worry.. I won't be trying that again.. I am not a huge fan of the BWV.. so.. as you all say, more room for you all there! LOL!! As a frequent solo traveler.. I really didn't feel comfortable or safe walking those LONG, ENDLESS hallways at night alone.. or anytime of the day alone actually.. whoever designed that building without elevators anywhere else but in the main building should be made to walk those hallways over and over again!!!! And the parking??? What were they thinking??? There is NO parking.. Okay.. vent over.. and completely off topic.. sorry.. I lost my head for a minute there!! LOL!! Hope you get what you want!!! :thumbsup2

Beca,

I'm sure that there's a nice, warm studio at SSR waiting for you. C'mon, one night won't hurt ;) ;) ;)

Beca,

I have to agree with DrTomorrow. You know what they say, "Don't knock it till you've tried it"!! :goodvibes

I think this is my biggest fear of buying into DVC. What if I buy in and can't get into my home resort, even at 10 mos. out? It would drive me crazy knowing I could rent points from someone else for the week I want, but can't book it myself. Knowing some people are doing this to "make money," whether it be for another vacation, or to pay their dues, or because they've "gone into business," will irk me even more. Having to call day by day, perhaps not getting 1 day, or having to wait list one day... this would be much too stressful, for me at least, taking away from the "Comfort" of owning. Just my opinion though
Those who rent reservations are just other members. If as an 'owner' you couldn't get into your home resort at 10-months out, then a person who 'rents points' couldn't get it either. Those who rent points do not have reservations, but only offer to make a reservation. They have no 'priority' over other members who want to reserve the same dates.

The only way you'd get something that is not available at 10 months is if the person who rents to you, had already made a reservation at 11-months for the exact dates, resort, and villa type that you wanted, and had it available (not already rented).

Keep in mind, at 10 months you can get just about anything you want. The only caveat is the MOST busy times which include New Year's Eve, the 1st two weeks in December, dates around F&W, and some of the spring break dates. And in those instances, you can book at 11-months out.

This is completely :offtopic:

but when I read the title of this thread.. my first thought was from one of the songs in the play Rent... "No room, at the holiday in OH NO!"

I guess there's not much sense in me trying to switch my SSR to BCV at 7 months, eh? :confused3

You should just book a studio for one at another
DVC and if your waitlist comes through, cancel the ressie

explain yourself please.. I am somewhat of a newbie and am trying to justify the purchase of the bwywts but just cannot with the price difference of about 1500-2500 for the same points..

Shawn & DVCME....THANK YOU! I will call SWA today!!! Of course, if they do accept them longer, I will lose at night at BCV :( , but we would have to borrow points, so maybe that would not be such a bad thing!!

There is a big DIS meet planned for Dec 8th at Jellyrolls: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=980214 Last year that meet attracted about 50 DISers! Several people who have said they will be attending this year's meet are DVCers (myself included) and will be staying at BCV or BWV for ease of returning "home" after the meet. Most are arriving a day or two in advance so maybe that is contributing to the lack of availability at BCV on Dec 7th.

We are also going during that time frams- the 2-9th. We'll be at SSR, though. Good to know about the DIS meet- that will be fun!

At the more popular times and more popular (or smaller) DVC resorts, members who own there will have priority over all other bookings.

The most popular times are New Year's Eve, Early December, F&W, Spring Break. If you are not an owner at BWV for example, you have basically no chance of getting a standard view studio during the above timeframes.

So if it's very important for you to be able to book BWV Standard Studio for F&W, then you'd better own at BWV so you have the extra booking window.

Remember, at 7-months, ALL non-home resort owners can start booking these locations. And as SSR sells more and more, the total number of DVC members continues to increase, but the total number of villas at the sold-out resorts remains constant. Thus competition for 7-month bookings at hard to get times of the year will become even tougher.

As for the "Two Ressies", you don't make two reservations. You make one reservation at your home resort during your home resort priority period, and waitlist for the desired non-home resort. If the non-home resort doesn't come through, you still have a reservation at your home resort. If it does come through, your first reservation is cancelled and replaced by the new reservation.

If you are not going at the most popular times, are flexible in exact dates, resort, and villa type, then home resort advantage is not as important. If you normally can't book until 7-months out or less anyway, then home resort doesn't matter at all.

Hope this helps.

Thank you for explaining that. It makes me feel a little better about the whole thing. :sunny:

Since we like to go the second week in December, it sounds like it will be important for me to buy where I want to stay during that time.
