No RFID-chip mug needed for coffee??

This is a spin-off of my own thread, but now I am curious. We are staying at ASMu next week, and I assumed we'd need a refillable mug to get coffee at the food court- we've always used our mug for coffee, and I guess I just assumed that as the mugs now have RFID chips, they were on all the beverage dispensers. Now I am reading that there are no RFID readers on the coffee makers. Is this true? We don't drink soda, so don't need the mug for that, but we do drink iced tea. Will we need an RFID-enabled mug for coffee or iced tea, or just for soda?

You still have to pay for coffee, even though they don't have the RFID system implemented. You can't just walk up with your own mug and steal it.

I don't expect to steal coffee at Disney; I'm perfectly happy to pay for coffee with my breakfast. However, I don't want to spend $17 (each) for a mug if I'm only using it for a cup of coffee at breakfast each of 3 mornings, if I can pay for a cup of coffee each day and get a free refill. Sorry if you misunderstood my intent!

Yes you can get a cup of coffee without the refillable mug. No, I don't think you can get a refill.

You'll be best off doing what you said - paying for a single cup of coffee each day. I actually don't know the official rules on refills/no refills for coffee, but I doubt you'll have any issue or pushback from refilling your coffee cup while you're still in the restaurant. If you plan to refill your coffee later in the day, I'd say no, you definitely can't do that...but sitting at the counter service restaurant while you eat your breakfast and drink your coffee, then refill it on the way out, I'd say that's perfectly fine.

We do exactlly what you're discussing. I get a cup each morning and then probably refill it three or four times. Same with the tea.

You can pay for your coffee each day without getting the RFID mug. They will give you a drink cup at the register. There is no reason you can't refill your cup before you leave the food court. Even if the coffee dispensers had the chip readers it would be like the soda machines where you would be allowed x number of refills over a specific time frame.

Reading this and your OP...you know you can buy sodas in that same way, yes? (I get you don't drink it...neither do I) The paper soda cups have the chips in them, too, and you can still buy just A soda, not a mug.

The mug allows for many different beverages; but it's not the only way to get beverages.

Since you wondered if just getting a cup of coffee is possible, I wanted to make sure you knew that you can still buy just a cup of *anything* they have...no $17 mug needed.

Thanks for asking this! We are also a no-soda/coffe & tea family but I had assumed that the mugs could be used for that too.

You can use the RFID Mugs for Coffee, Tea, Hot Cocoa, Iced Tea and Soda Machine Beverages but currently only the soda machines actually read the chip. The question was whether or not one could get a refill on the non-soda beverages if they didn't purchase the mug. It's really a question of will one purchase enough beverages during their stay to warrant paying the cost of the mug. Buying Coffee for 3 breakfasts is way cheaper than buying the mug.

From what I understand, refills are fine while you're eating. They also allow it at some other places, like the burger place at Epcot (my mind is drawing a blank). I often get a couple of cups of lemonade (don't like soda). I think if you purchase, for example, one soda, it allows for refills for a couple of hours, so there is no issue with you refilling your coffee as well.

I would just buy coffee - honestly I have never gotten coffee where you don't get free refills so I am sure that is fine. I know the soft drink cups allow refills. Don't worry about it. You will be fine

You can get a coffee refill with no problems. Lets say you get coffee with breakfast, then get a refill once more during your meal and another on your way out, totally fine. Coffee refills are allowed at TS restaurants during your meal, so its totally ok at your resort too.

I never had a problem filling up my Mug, and taking a separate cup for coffee each morning at Roaring Fork. I asked a cast member and she said it was fine, perhaps she was just lazy and didn't care.
