NO plan - good or bad?

DVC called me today (I'm not a member) to discuss how they could make my traveling life better. I told them that I'm only interested in the cruises. She was shocked that my kids have never been to WDW. I've read all the posts and listened to all the second by second planning that you wonderfully organized DISers do for a WDW vacation with your little ones. I'm OUT!

We don't plan our WDW trips at all. We just wake up when we feel like it and do whatever we want that day. It's quite nice. Cruising is still my personal favorite, but I highly recommend a non-scripted trip to the parks as well. It's its own experience. :)

Haha!! The kids are teens now, I couldn't script them if I wanted to!

I have been thinking of trying some Disney resorts. They look fabulous. I haven't been to WDW in 20 years, maybe I could just let my kids plan the day ;)

Boy, do I hear you. I have two of those myself. :crazy2:

The resorts are fantastic, even the cheap seats. The theming is much fun, and when you stay on property not only is everything easy, you feel like you are removed from the real world for a while. At least I do. :)

I'm all for letting the kids plan. If you left it up to me I'd probably just be at Epcot all day - where all the amazing food is.

We (my husband, our two young girls, and I) leave in two weeks for our first cruise ever - a three night on the Dream. With the exception of a dinner reservation at Paolo, I have made absolutely NO plans. This is the exact opposite of how I "attack" our WDW trips at the parks. My thinking is that with a three night cruise, we don't really have a lot of time and we should just enjoy the boat and Castaway Cay. Any thoughts or suggestions? Am I going to kick myself for not having more of an organized itinerary?

Can't wait :)

no need for a plan on a 3 night - and the fact that you have a reservation at palo means you do have a plan!! :)

on our 3 night cruise (our first on DCL) we didn't even eat at Palo - we wanted to eat dinner with the kids every night and to experience all 3 main dining rooms.

each night you will get the navigators for the following day - that's when you can plan what you will do the next day. (bring a highlighter - makes it easier).

i assume that you plan to stay on the ship in Nassau - good idea!
and i assume you plan on getting off the ship at CC and enjoying the beach there...we did that....went for a swim, then rented bikes (we didn't reserve, just walked up), rode over to where the trail is near the adult beach, shopped for souvenirs....ate at cookies...basically had a lazy in the sun...

a ship is for being lazy and doing nothing....that's the beauty of it!!!!

this is kinda where I am right now too about our Dream trip next month,, I usually plan sooo much for our WDW trips yet find myself kinda not with a plan this time so far. I mean I want us to see the shows and stuff so yes we will do that but as far as excursions, nope nothing,,, oh yeah I do have a plan to make sure we get to certain characters for our 7 yr old but even some of that is very loose!

My suggestion based on personal experience is that just a little planning can make a big difference. Our first cruise was a three nighter. Between unpacking and packing and trying to fit everything into three days it gets hectic. I would suggest getting familiar with the deck plans, kids clubs rules/check in(if applicable). Time goes very quickly on 3 & 4 night cruises.

My husband has looked over the layout of the ship, using your exact thought process. He's the "map guy!!"

I'm a planaholic.
Every vacation I've ever been responsible for, everything has to be just right.
I stress making sure everything goes according to plan on my vacations.

However, I decided on my first cruise (Last January) that I would plan the trip, but nothing on the ship.
It is the first time that I have felt so relaxed and stress-free in years.
That's what made me addicted to cruising.

Just go, get your navigators, and decide what you're going to do on the spot!
