No pigeons at WDW?

Does anyone know or have any idea why Disney doesn't do something about the bird problem in the Magic Kingdom? :confused3
It has gone past annoying straight to dangerous..... :sad2: :umbrella:
Disney has tried to do many things to get ride of them. Unfortunately it is not as easy as you might thing. Especially when you have to do it in a humane way. Recently they installed some new silent bird resellers near Pecos Bill. They emit sounds that repel birds but the average human can not hear. This has helped a ton.

I agree, they need to do something about the seagulls. A woman got attacked by a flock of them at EPCOT during our February trip this year. We went up to her and asked if she was OK, she was so upset. She had just gotten a funnel cake and about 20 of them came down on her and hit her in the back and arms until she dropped her food. They knew exactly what there were doing. One of the biggest problems we have seen is people feeding them....this is probably one of the biggest reasons they attack, because they are so use to humans giving them food.

Actually, you can see the world's largest species of pigeon at AK on one of the trails!

I'm guessing the vultures....one of the other pains that Disney has to deal with. Since they are a protected species, Disney can't do anything to them to get rid of them. I remember when they were everywhere on Discovery Island too. I always find it funny that the CM never mentions them when pointing out the animals because they didn't put them there, they selected the AK as their home.

Ok that funnel cake story just scared the bejesus out of me, I am petrified of birds, its a good thing I dont like funnel cake!

I noticed them all over at Universal and realized I'd never seen any at Disney. :confused3

Maybe Disney catches all the pigeons and at night dumps them off in Universal.......

I say let Universal keep the little pandemic disease-carriers, if they want them. Yuck. I'm not for killing pigeons en masse, but I sure like to avoid them like I would literally avoid the plague.

I think one of the best things Disney could do about the gull problem is start beating the people who feed them with a stick. (joke, not serious)

But seriously. While at Disney this past January they were horrible in tomorrowland! HUGE flocks. And at lunch time my dear darling husband got a real kick out of feeding them, I got pissed and told him that I was sure Disney and the rest of the people eating around us didn't appreciate it. and he being the smart a^& he is said that there weren't any sings or anything saying not to. That when I got to shove the napkin in his face that clearly states to NOT feed the birds!
He felt sheepish.
He wasn't the only person feeding the birds, but what more can Disney do besides print it on the napkins? Signs around the park would hurt theming.

Warning - they like ice cream too! DW got mugged just after leaving Mrs. Potts. She laughed it off but then I saw a family feeding them at the seated area outside. I considered saying something but I'm not sure it would have done any good. There were a couple of CM's around and they weren't telling them anything, either.

DH gets absolutely hysterical watching me try to navigate through a flock of kamikaze sea gulls!

I believe there is also a mention not to feed the birds on the guidemaps. Sort of a picture of a bird with a line going through it.

Adding to the Hitchcock element...

The birds like churros, too. I've told this story before, but a bird swooped down on my sister and her fresh churro and hit her so hard she had a mild concussion and had to go to first aid! I get so mad when I see people feed those things, I have to say something.

Now, if people are freaked out by birds, here's some interesting tidbits...

My first trip to DL in 2002, we were waiting for the fireworks (Believe...There's Magic in the Sky, fyi), a cockroach ran across our laps (ugh).

We were eating at the Hungry Bear restaurant at DL the same trip and there were stray cats (at least 7 or 8 of them) wandering through the seating area (a really large seating area, like Pecos Bill but out in the open).

Still same trip, in line for the monorail (which is inside Tomorrowland at DL), when a CM goes, "Look, there's Mickey Mouse," uh, sure, I looked down and there was a real mouse running across the ground.

Guess that's what the cats are for.

So, mosquitoes and birds...nothin'. Check out DL to fuel your animal fears :sunny:

Addenum: I've never seen any of the above animals since that trip to DL (I've been back twice and I'm heading back tomorrow), so please do not think it's a rodent-infested park. It's not at all. They're funny stories though.
