I'm very disappointed, they don't have any peppermint ice cream anywhere this year for Christmas. According to the CM, they "were supposed to get it", but didn't. :-(

) Everyone in that thread knows I am a huge peppermint ice cream connoisseur, and I've also gotten many of the folks to go out and buy Dreyer's Peppermint Wonderland ice cream at the grocery store -- the Grand/full fat kind, not the Slow Churned variety -- because that is what's sold in the parks (although it used to be called "Peppermint Stick").

I mentioned the lack of peppermint ice cream at DLR this year (and the reason why it's not there) in the Christmas/Holiday Season Superthread after I returned on Friday, 11/15. (See? If you're not following along, you're missing out on important details!) Everyone in that thread knows I am a huge peppermint ice cream connoisseur, and I've also gotten many of the folks to go out and buy Dreyer's Peppermint Wonderland ice cream at the grocery store -- the Grand/full fat kind, not the Slow Churned variety -- because that is what's sold in the parks (although it used to be called "Peppermint Stick").
So you can believe I sought out the ice cream at DLR and wanted a reason why it was not there!
The reason why there is no peppermint -- at least in the case of Clarabelle's and Gibson Girl this year -- is that Dreyer's would not send "the right size" (carton/package/container) that those places specifically need. Dreyer's sends them the right sizes in the other ice cream flavors but not in this one.
Oddly, the peppermint ice cream was available during the Limited Time Magic Christmas in July event...but just not now, during the holiday season!
However, as figment_jii mentioned, someone had peppermint ice cream at the BBQ. Now, to me, in the photo that ice cream looks like the Slow Churned variety and not the Grand (in other words, it is not as good), but the fact that they even have it at the BBQ when it is not available at the actual ice cream shops is perplexing. My guess is that the BBQ requires a different size and Dreyer's was able to send what they needed...OR someone behind the scenes at DLR ran out to the local Vons and grabbed some cartons!
In any case, the CM with whom I spoke at Clarabelle's on 11/15 told me that he had already received several inquiries about the ice cream, and he also wrote a "strongly worded letter" to Dreyer's to complain that they didn't give them right size this year. He suggested that I, too, write a strongly worded letter to Dreyer's.
Oh, and don't be fooled by the appealing name of the "Peppermint Bark Dazzler" at Haagen Dazs. That is not actual peppermint ice cream, but rather vanilla ice cream with chunks of bark in it. Not the same as the Dreyer's Peppermint Wonderland (Grand, not Slow Churned), and not nearly as delicious.
I think that Mousewait (or is it MouseWait? Mouse Wait?) reported seeing peppermint ice cream at Ghirardelli, but I suspect it is similar to what Haagen Dazs sells -- white ice cream with bark.
Wow! Nice sleuthing, Sherry! As far as I've heard, Ghirardelli sells Dreyer's so maybe it's the good kind of peppermint (Grand, not Slow Churned). Who'd have thought carton size could derail an entire DLR treat??
I am hot on the case of this ice cream! I probably would not be paying as much attention to whether or not it was available at DLR if I could rely on it actually being sold at my grocery stores. Too often my stores sell the Slow Churned kind and not the actual Grand kind, or the Grand ice cream sells out quickly. I knew that DLR would be the one place I could count on to sell the Grand Peppermint Wonderland.
And if that is Dreyer's Peppermint Wonderland being sold at Ghirardelli -- and not some impostor ice cream with chunks of bark in it -- why would Dreyer's send it there and not to the other ice cream places in the parks? It's baffling!
Adding to my grocery list : D

) They sell it year round and you can get it in a pint or quart size and take it to go instead of eating there.
Peppermint ice cream is one of my all time favorite, too.
My biggest tip is to get the one from Baskin Robbins. I actually like it better than Dreyer's. (Can I say that around here?) They sell it year round and you can get it in a pint or quart size and take it to go instead of eating there.
I may or may not have gotten a couple quarts at a time more than once.....![]()
Try Ghirardelli's in DCA--we had it there several weeks ago. Not on the menu, you have to ask for it, but it is available--and good!![]()
Go for Grand Peppermint Wonderland ice cream (there is a cute snowman on the carton), not the Slow Churned! The Slow Churned is not awful, but the Grand is a lot better (and it is a nicer shade of pink!).
It's delicious!!
Here's the thing, though -- year-round ice cream is...year-round ice cream. Then it's not special anymore, which is exactly why I don't get it from Baskin Robbins myself. I like certain flavors to be seasonal and limited because it adds something extra to look forward to during that special time of year.
There is a seasonal flavor sold January thru March at B/R called "Love Potion #31", and if you're a chocolate/raspberry fan (like me!), it is for YOU! Vanilla ice cream with choc chips, swirls of raspberry, and little raspbery-filled chocolate hearts. It's just heavenly
Because of this thread, I picked this up today! (there were only 3 cartons left) All I can say is...I get itIt's delicious!!
Now I've just gotta try a drizzle of chocolate syrup on top! Thanks Sherry

I've had Baskin Robbins peppermint ice cream numerous times in the past, but it just wasn't special because it is available all the time. There was no 'novelty element' to it. One of the ice cream places at the Farmers Market (near me) also used to serve peppermint year-round, and then they stopped doing that after a while.
The fun of the Dreyer's/Edy's ice cream is that it is only sold for a limited time (much like Breyer's Strawberry Shortcake Ice Cream in the summer), it usually has a cute name (like Peppermint Stick or Peppermint Wonderland), it comes in a cute carton -- and it's the brand that is (usually) sold at DLR during the holidays.
