No need for a fridge

We just got back from Pop Century over the New Year. We have 14-month-old son and didn't want to rent a fridge for milk. We stocked up on it when we used counter service meals at the resort since we had the refillable mugs.

We filled the recycle bucket w/ ice each night/morning and his milk stayed super cold! It worked out great and saved us a lot of money (in milk and renting a fridge) cost!

Am I wrong? I thought they told us at POP that the refillable mugs were for all the drinks EXCEPT milk???

True, but all meals come with a drink, so you can get milk with each meal (including the adult meals) and save it.

They have some little milk drink boxes that are ultra pasturized...and do not need refrigeration. Sounds weird, but I've tried them...they're good. Found plain, chocolate and strawberry. (Kroger even carries Disney ones). They're by the juice boxes.

So you don't even need to ice them down unless you prefer them chilled.

Just a note on the Ice, when we were at pop In march I did the very same thing for my Insuelin(I am Diabetic),we did request a fridge but It did not go through. Well I took the ice bucket and filled it up In the morining but by our mid afternoon break the ice had melted, and the same thing for overnight, filled it up before we went to bed and by morining it was all melted. Now I am not saying its a bad idea it actually works out well you just can not forget about it:goodvibes

The resort mugs are not supposed to be used for milk...they are to be used for: Coke products, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, and frozen Coke.

I would be very cautious about doing this with milk. If you're gone all day, the ice melts, and the temperature drops enough, your child can get very ill. It's worth it to bring the non-refrigerated milk cartons with you, or to purchase fresh milk each morning, just to be sure that you don't harm your child.

I don't think the OP is saying they used the refillable mugs for milk. She's saying that SINCE they had refillable mugs, they used those for the adult drinks and used their counter service drink credit for milk for their son.

We packed a soft sided cooler from home on our last trip. It's probably the size of a large lunch bag and can fit a six pack of pop (or other beverages) with no difficulties.

Each night we packed it full of ice and put our milk and juice boxes it it and set it in the tub. When we came back from the parks (10pm ish), there was still some ice left. We then went back and filled it again for overnight.

This workded out great. Another tip would be to wrap the ice box with a towel to help insulate it. That would also slow down the melting.

This is what I was going to do when I am there in December. I will also get some large ziplock bags and put the ice in there and zip it up and put it in the cooler. That way when the ice melts I can just dump it in the sink and refill the plastic baggie.

Ziplocs are great for that!
