Just saw this on Orlando Sentinel web sight. Seems Disney is trying to put a chip in the resort refillable mugs to limit the number of refills one can get at the soda fountains. They will also have a time limit on them so the mugs cannot be used on future vacations.
I never get the mugs anyway, but I wonder if Disney will lower prices on our vacations with all the money they will save on fountain drinks?
Here is the link.

We have been discussing this for DAYS.:rotfl: Already threads about it and moderators have been merging them as it is. I would delete this one if I were you, but if not, don't be surprised if you can't find it later. Not trying to be mean at all...I just didn't want it to disappear and you not know why.:thumbsup2

It's about time WDW did something to stop all those "cheaters":thumbsup2

Seriously, did anyone really think nothing was going to be done:sad2:

It would be worse if they stopped selling the mugs all together.

This is NOT A BIG DEAL

It doesn't actually say anything about limiting the number of times you can use it. It just says that it won't let you refill your mug within a certain amount of time so that you aren't giving others your drinks. It worked really well at the water parks. We bought those mugs and we liked them better actually because they were bigger. I have no problem with it.

We just got home from a trip and my husband (who is not a member here so he doesn't read the threads unless there's one I tell him about) saw a lady using an old mug. And I do mean old because it wasn't like the ones from last summer, which according to people here were already fairly outdated in design. Anyways, he said "She's not using the right mug." I just told him not to worry about it because it seemed to me that Disney would do something about it if they were worried. Well, it seems like now they are doing something about it.

It's only a big deal to those folks who have been using the same mugs since 2002.

They are just trying to get people to not use one mug to give drinks to their family of 6. The mug program was not designed for that. I think you can get a new fill every 5 minutes. Not a big deal.

That's what it is at the water parks. Of course, those are bigger mugs. I wouldn't mind seeing that but it's okay.

Back when I stayed at All Star Movies, I purchased a mug and it was good for all stays at that resort.

Now, I haven't been back to use my mug. I'm sure there are others that have and continue to do so. Wonder what would happen to those guests.

just something i thought about....I enjoy making my own form of "Mezzo Mix" I guess I can't anymore? :sad2:

You still can. Apparently the machine knows how many ounces of each type you put in and keeps track that way. You can mix different types of sodas to get to the ounce limit.

What a joke. I can not believe Disney is being so petty. The cost of the soda per glass cant be more than 0.10.

Maybe this is how they are going to finance the Fantasyland expansion!

YAY, I was worried it was a press the button and it auto shutoffs (kinda like the ones at a few fast food places)

it's a joke to go after people who are stealing?

It's not about the soda at all, it's about the mugs. If a family of 4 brings mugs back from a previous visit from 2 years ago, that is about $60 of revenue that Disney doesn't get when they SHOULD be getting it. I hope the testing of the new system works and they implement it everywhere. As one who follows the rules, it will be nice not to see some cheapo repeatedly filling up their cup with Coke and pouring it into a gallon jug for their family. IMHO, the only people that will overly complain about the new system are the ones who were cheating the system to begin with.

ALSO, the title of this thread is misleading...there is not a cap on the # of refills. It is still unlimited refills for your stay. Just as it has always been. It's just that now they are truly trying to enforce the "your stay" portion of the rule.

Not to be petty:rotfl: but its actually less than that for soda. We own a restaurant and I know for sure its like .08 per refill. Its likely less for Disney because Im sure they buy at a much large quantity than we do!

I doubt it's about the soda at all. Like the PP said, it's the mugs. When you are supposed to buy a new mug every trip, and people keep bringing old mugs, that is a LOT of money lost. This really won't be that big a change to the people that follow the rules anyway.

Im happy with this change. I have always bought a new mug every trip, i've read about and seen people use old mugs and im glad they wont be able to use them for much longer. I would like to see Disney bring in graphics, logos or whatever you want to call them to each and every resort mug. That would be great for collectors.

Just got back from a short trip and used last years mug each time I got coffee I went to the cashier to pay and they said thank you have a nice day and did not charge me. This happened every time every day. Did not matter who the cashier was. I told them coffee and they said have a nice day.
So I was following the rules willing to pay but Disney cashiers did not collect. So what does that make me?
