No More Straws At The YC

Yeah... I'm pretty sure at this point that there is a manager running around Disney saying "If we eliminate the chocolate coating on the Mickey Bars we can make 4% more profit and I can get that juicy performance bonus that's in my contract... SCORE!!!!"

Oh no, if they remove the chocolate, they would even have to charge us more for the “premium vanilla-only ice cream”!

Does anyone know if the Starbucks in the parks is also doing away with the straws too? I know the ones outside of the park mentioned they will eventually but they haven't started to yet

They have started to give you a lid that looks like an adult sippy cup.

Well there is no doubt that this may have a benefit with conservation, and that is great!!!!!! But you have to remember that Disney is doing this with a product that cost them money and not with a product, like those awesome balloons in the Magic Kingdom, that makes them money.

They gotta start somewhere.

I've been purchasing real toilet paper for the last few years when we make our trip to Publix. DisneyTP in the villas is paper thin and leaves road burns. It's nasty.

LOL, we bring a roll of TP from home. At the end of our stay we always leave the unused portion on top of the toilet hoping someone will take the hint that theirs isn't suitable and buy real TP. So far, no luck.

I don't know if this applies everywhere, but for a few years now, at AK, we have gotten paper straws but no lids.
Yep and it was a pain having to always carry the cup instead of putting it in the stroller cup holder when we were leaving Mara's:(

When we were there last week, they mentioned the straw policy starting this week. I also noticed the huge bucket of non-disposable Mickey straws at EACH register selling for.69 each. Doable, of course, but couple that with doing away with the straws and lid, and the profits exceedingly increase.

We just got back last week. We saw mixed results even within the same park as far as lids and straws. Starbucks gave us lids and straws but we could not get them at Peco's Bills. I am on board with the policy though, as it does illustrate a first step in helping the environment. I won't lie though, and say that drinks with no tops in stroller cup holders are a disaster. When we go next year, we will bring reusable straws with us and just use those, as we have banned plastic straws in our house as well. We can just pour our drinks into the mugs at the parks. Adapt and overcome. :confused3

We don't drink soda so it won't have an effect us and I refuse to drink coffee from plastic. I'm glad they are trying to do away with plastics that can't be recycled. The travel mugs w/ lids at Starbucks are great...imo. I also saw reusable straws with a straw cleaner on Amazon for a decent price. I read too that lids and straws are available on request. I know some with think this is just another inconvenience or a money grab, but I think you will see more enviormental moves like this from all the theme parks.

It seems that in theory they are available by request, but in practice they are not.

I will find out next week, when we are there.
