No more smoking or vaping in the parks

The concern I have is if Disney doesn’t be more informative about the bans. It has been on our local news ( Orlando) and a cable news show. Has it been in the news in the UK? Are they telling people when they make a reservation? Not everyone reads the online Disney boards.
I don’t know about the UK but it all made our local news.

Actually, what people feed their child might affect other people. If they don't eat balanced meals, they may grow up to be overweight. Then, all of our insurance rates will rise.
I agree that some people are rude and selfish. Some do not follow rules and others use that as a broad brush.

That's a bit much. WDW is a vacation destination. I give my kids much more leeway on their diets when we're on vacation. If my kid ate chicken nuggets 10 times over the course of a vacation week, it doesn't mean he's not eating healthier, balanced fare the remaining 51 weeks in a year.I'm pretty confident that many parents feel as I do on this.

Have you ever tracked your steps at Disney? I could triple what I usually eat and probably still lose weight. I'm walking miles each day and burning tons of calories.

For someone 110lbs they burn about 65 calories a mile, that's not really that many extra calories when you consider all the treats and the PORTIONS at WDW. It seems like it should be so many more, right?

Absolutely. I cook healthy meals the majority of the days at home, but rarely cook on vacation. I also don’t fight about what they eat/drink within reason on vacation and holidays. It’s part of what makes vacations and holidays special (for them and for me).

I find it quite interesting that nobody on my last trip three weeks ago including the people with allergies and asthma had problems with SHORT TERM exposure to a couple of things that are MUCH MUCH WORSE than any cig smoke. I was on the bridge between France and the UK during illuminations, and every bit of smoke because of the wind that night was coming into the crowds. Didn't see anybody complain or leave, during the half hour or more from the hundreds if not more in my area. There is also the vehicle exhaust from thousands of guests cars trucks etc. The worse of all are all the diesel buses that are used for transportation. Especially ones that use 50% renewable FUEL which is even worse than regular diesel, but it does save someone MONEY. I suppose no one told everyone that these and others are far worse in short term exposure than cigs.

And other than Epcot, you have to go searching for those DSAs.

When we look at our steps we average 10-12 miles/day. I’d say that’s a lot of calories burned. We have done a few days as high as 15 miles.

The buses are outside the parks & on May 1st cigarette smoke will be too. I’m sure ppl would be equally annoyed or worse if they had to walk through bus exhaust on the way to Adventureland.

Let's call it an extra 800 calories...considering the meals will have more calories than what you'd eat at home (or at least more people suggest they make better choices at home). 1 single turkey leg seems to range have an average of ~720 calories (this is based on a very brief google, but doesn't seem too far off, I mean, if I let myself, I'd have an ~500 Starbucks every day!) I'm not arguing, it's just a bit shocking how few calories you burn by walking, BUT walking is wonderful low impact exercise. It's my favorite actually after swimming.

Luckily none of the above mentioned drifts and you aren't exposed on your way in or out of the parks or any where else.

This thread is so round and round. Yes there are many things that pollute the air we breath and most are out of our control. It’s part of life. I have no problem being around the tomorrow land speed way go carts but some can’t stand it. I do hate the smell of cigarette smoke especially when I’m eating. It makes me want to puke just as much as someone breathing their ash tray breath in my face or standing next to smelling like they bathed in smoke. I have never had a problem avoiding the DSA’s since I could smell them well before I got near them. Bottom line, Disney has moved the smoking areas and all the whining about how you can’t smoke in the parks around other guest won’t change that. If those that posted you will no longer go, that’s on you, not Disney. Those that said now their kids won’t get to experience the magic, that too is in you. Not Disney. If you decide to not take your kids to Disney because you can’t smoke in the parks, don’t use the rules as a scape goat. It’s all on you if you decide a cigarette is more important than your kids. I’ve seen people post that their vacation will be ruined because they will be away from their family for so long walking out and going back through security. Again, that’s not on Disney. Simple solution is put your family and kids first. Not a cigarette. And yes I am ready for all the quotes and everyone that smokes telling me I don’t understand. You don’t know me so you really don’t know if I understand or not so don’t waste your time. I won’t respond anyway. Have a magical smoke free day!

We can debate if there are other things that effect asthma and allergies or guests other sensitivities all day long. The fact is those that have an issue against smoking are not going to admit it. (I do find it telling that anyone who commented on that picked out the buses and completely ignored the part about the smoke from Illuminations which is most certainly inside the parks) No more than they will admit that that smell they thought was smoke just might not have been a cigarette but something cooking. Or that the person out of the DSA was someone with a vape not a cigarette (not that it makes it ok but not the same thing either).

Disney didn’t do this for any of that or because it’s unhealthy. If you think they did this for your or anyone’s health you are kidding yourself. The fact is if (and yes that is a big if) it effects their bottom line, those DSAs are going to be back quicker that you can say “smoke”. Just like the healthy kids meals were not because they cared one whit about kids eating habits. They thought WE cared. They figured out we don’t and changed it.

The loose ice ban, well they will figure out a way to make a $ or two from it. Anyone shows up with a too big stroller well, that helps out their rental business. Get rid of DSAs and that’s 5 feet of concrete to squish us crazy sardines into when Star Wars opens and they don’t have to pay that person to clean the area and empty the ashtrays/cans.

And before anyone says it, yes I know they are a business. And all businesses are there to make money. Disney takes it to extremes sometimes but there will be those that will defend them no matter what. Personally, I have removed the Mickey glasses; not over the smoking ban but the increase in hard ticket events, the less quality for more money, paying to park and some things that made Disney well, Disney and aren’t there anymore. Finding the “Disney Customer Service” somewhere else and realizing “hey this was what was missing on our last trip” will do that for you.

Sooner or later there will be a change that will effect some here more and they too will take off those glasses. And we will see a totally different thread.

And by the way, I haven’t seen one post here say anything about anyone’s kids missing out. They have said it will be an issue going in and out but not because of their kids. Another non smoker reading into something that’s not there. Climb on down from the high horse before you fall.

I know I'll be in the minority here but I was so sad to read this morning's announcements. We have had so many really great trips to Disney, but I know my husband won't go back with a no-smoking policy in place. It isn't reasonable in the least to expect smokers to hike all the way back to the parking lot to have a cigarette, on top of all the walking that is already involved in a WDW vacation. Disney has to know this and I'm sure they don't care - they are busy enough that losing the ~20% of Americans who still smoke is a loss they're willing to accept. But on a personal level, I'm so disappointed that we'll never take that adults-only trip we've been talking about for years or give DD her 21st birthday wish with a Food & Wine trip.

Here you go ... this poster mentions her kid is going to miss out.

I'll admit it ... why would I not? I have an issue against smoking. My issue is that it's killed several people that I care about - way before their time. And I don't want people's smoke in my lungs or my kids lungs.

Admit that other things have as much or more of an effect on their allergies and asthma. Not admit they have an issue with smoking, no one is hiding that point.
