No more private golf carts??

In feb. I saw a private cart that had three bench seats....It looked and was as long as a limo:rotfl:

I've seen quite a few of those at Disney, they are freaking awesome! Wish I could afford a golf cart like that, talk about living in the lap of luxury...lol. I'm not sure if those are "legal" or not, although they are probably street legal if anything. I'm sure you can't drive those around on the sidewalks or anything.

That's one of my favorite things to do at the Fort, is to drive around in our little "public transportation" golf cart that we rented, and look at some of the cooler golf carts that people own. Some people put a lot of time and effort into them, especially around the holidays. There really are some amazing one's out there!

It looked kind of funny parked on the foot path near the marina....:sad2:

Perhaps they could build a cart path behind the settlement to the parking lot and relieve the congestion on the foot path......?

Not a bad idea actually, especially with the location of the new parking lot. I've always thought it was an accident waiting to happen having golf carts/bikes/pedestrians all trying to navigate the same area. Luckily, most people don't just fly through that area, and I've never actually seen an accident there, but I'm sure it happens.

Only problem is, most stores normally have all their maintenance, drop off, storage, etc... behind the stores, so I'm not sure how feasible it would be to have a path right behind the settlement, maybe if they knocked down some of the trees back there and moved it a bit farther out behind it.

Edit:

I did a quick sattelite shot overhead at the Settlement, showing where this proposed path might go (red path and arrow). Actually, my assumption was right, you can see that right behind the Settlement there is a large storage type area, obviously where they do their shipping/pickups/etc... This new path however could follow part of the already existing wilderness trail path, and then take a left, and head through a small section of "woods" before dumping off into the parking lot area. Just place the poles that block golf cart entry in certain locations, and voila, no more traffic problems! ;)

Looks like a nobrainer to me...

Put up a nice fence similar to the one along meadow trading post path.....:thumbsup2

If you look at who has the private golf carts, many times it's the people who use FW the most. Can't imagine they would disallow that. I can see not allowing the off-site carts unless you pick them up and bring them in yourselves. I guess it makes me wiggy because my husband would about kill me since we just bought our Mickey Red golf cart last month! :cool1:

I don't think they realized how popular the private carts would become when they first started renting carts.....

Not sure why the allowed private carts in the first place.....especially since they affect thier profits......:confused3

I think they are going to have a problem with the congestion at the marina area with them especially the large customized ones.....

The path around mtp makes perfect sense imo...

They have allowed private carts for a long time, and they just added tons of new parking areas. There will be no problem with congestion, maybe here and there, but nothing anyone is going to care about.

They allowed private carts as a benefit to those that owned them. It also increases their profit, since people are more likely to return knowing they can bring their own carts.

I've been to the Fort during some of it's busiest times, and it's not like there are waiting lines of golf carts to get places ;) Even during Thanksgiving, a really busy time, with all the new parking, it's easy to find an open spot, and there is little congestion if any. This isn't the Magic Kindgdom we're talking about here...lol

We were there last April and although it was super busy, we didn't really have any problems with parking the carts. The only problems we ran into were the underage drivers (some looked to be only 9 or 10  ) who were pretty scary at times. Somebody must have done some complaining because during our second week there, Disney security was escorting many young drivers back to the campsites and talking to parents and grandparents. That made my 15 year old feel better. He was pretty grumpy that we wouldn't let him take the cart. Anyway, love the carts and can imagine FW without them.

probably because there are not enough rentals to go around, and unless you reserve them ahead of time you have a very slim chance of getting one.

Good point Scott...

But would'nt it make sense to purchase more carts and rent them?

I think they have a hard time enforcing certain rules such as size, age of driver, etc. on private carts..

private carts have to follow the same rules as rental carts, unfortunately Disney is very inconsistent in enforcing rules.

Yea, it really has nothing to do with what kind of cart it is, people break the rules on the rentals as much as the private carts.

Most of the rules I don't really mind, but seeing 8 year old kids driving golf carts, that's when it's crossing the line :/

Let me tell you this is everywhere, I don't know what some parents are thinking, last year at M. Beach a 7 yr old ran a golf cart into the back of our tt, he had to almost stand to drive the thing, if I wouldn't have seen it with my own eyes I wouldn't have beleived it.:scared1:

I have been going to FW all of my life. Can anyone remember when FW started renting golf carts? I know in the early 80’s the cart where only rented for one day. I think they had to be back by 5pm because they didn’t have lights. When I worked for WDW and I don’t know the deals Disney makes but it was rumored that like the Mercury outboards WDW got the carts for free.

I remember those! And, the carts didn't have windshields, so people would wrap plastic wrap (like Saran Wrap) around the whole cart when it was raining or cold! LOL!

The funny thing about the carts at FW is the people who are on carts should be walking or riding a bike because they need the excercise and the people on bikes or walking could use a cart ride here and there lol. I rented a cart once but I enjoy either walking or riding bikes. One other thing I notice when you rent a cart at FW it better look better than when it was rented because if one scratch is on it "YOU WILL PAY" for the damage. We were turning ours in and this lady was arguing with a cm because somebody had tore a piece of molding off with another cart and they had this guy come up and give this magical price of $150 to fix it. The lady was irate and it made me never want to rent one again just for that reason.

I always take a few pics of ours when we pick it up. Most of them have some damage already. We got one a couple of years ago that wobbled like it had been jumped.

That's a good idea bigdaddy. I was looking at buying just a regular one and adding the seat on back. It's a tough call because I like riding my bike at the fort.

Ugh, please don't remind me about that. I remember many a cold night before the golf carts had windshields, actually, I try not to remember it! It's still freezing to ride around in them in the cold, but that was just pure torture.

I swear that a few years ago I saw a private cart of someone's that they had used Saran Wrap, probably because they had damaged their windshield on the trip up somehow. Talk about a blast to the past....lol

I personally would like to see Disney enforce the rules already in place, rather than ban carts. I can see where there is a potential for them to lose control of the parking situation unless outside carts are banned, however.

the problem is, that there is only 2 ways for disney to enforce the rules. Tell people to stop and hope they do, or kick them out of the resort. There will continue to be carts at the fort.....maybe not personal carts, but carts. Or there may be a register fee for outside carts in which they ahve to sign a contract and pay a daily fee as well. Who knows. But people are not adhering to the "rules".....and that is where a problem is. With "disney" carts, you can always take the cart away from someone breaking the rules.

The cart fleet has not doubled. it has been SLIGHTLY increased, but only by 12%

how many other rv camps allow private golf carts? I have heard a lot do not for the same reasons (hard to police, underage drivers, liability)
