No more pooh at Crystal Palace

I think that these rumors have come from the other Character meals that have been dropped. The Crystal Palace is incredibly popular, and as hard to secure reservations as Chef Mickeys. Disney is on a cost cutting rampage, but it makes sense for them to keep a select number of these Character meals. I hope they do.

I agree. Characters are their bread and butter. They probably should be ADDING characters and character meals.

With the economy going down the crapper we are going to hear so many rumors about what Disney is going to do and try to save money. They know they can't raise ticket prices again so the only other option is to make cuts, they are going to be painful and hard to swallow but hopefully it will only be temporary until this financial mess resolves itself.

Nooooooo! This can't be! We LOVE Pooh & Friends at CP even if we don't have munchkins with us. We enjoy watching the wee ones at tables around us react to the characters at all the character meals we attend. But no Pooh, Eeyore, Tigger, or Piglet???? NEVER!

I understand needing to cut back on some things, but management needs to come up with some practical ideas instead. Besides, they're great idea of getting rid of the "quaint" shops to put in more Disney retail outlets really wasn't a very bright idea to my thinking. Then again, I enjoy pixie dust and am not looking for that gargantuan "bonus" if stocks do well either.

Fellas, it's time to bring some of the original Disney magic back instead of taking it away because you might not be able to get such a large bonus this year!!!!!

Until Disney confirms this I won’t believe it. I wouldn’t care from a personal standpoint. I eat at CP for the food, not the characters. I do, however, know I am in the minority with that one. I don’t mind the characters and since they are there, I enjoy them. I agree with a previous post that the characters are the bread and butter, and if you want to draw people in during an economic downturn you have to differentiate yourself from the alternatives. A good meal without characters can be found anywhere, almost always cheaper, while eating with characters is unique to Disney.

(Eating with pooh however, is available in much of the undeveloped world).

OK i will straighten this out, I know for a fact cast members were notified MONTHS ago about Liberty Tree, but they have not been told anything about CP. SO this is a false rumor.

I hope you are right. We planned to take DD there next September.

For LTT or CP, I would not eat there without characters, unless they lower the price for the kids to eat. The last character meal my family did was Hollywood & Vine. My dd3 ate about 2 bites of mac and cheese. I kept telling myself I was paying for the characters, not the food. I can't justify spending that much for her and ds7 to eat as little as they do.

I don't think the food at LTT is any good, either. I'm always surprised that people like it.

But when you're catering to guests on the Dining Plan, the prices on the menu aren't really an issue, they're mostly there for show.

I guess I would be fine with this... BUT they need to give a long advance notice, since I have CP booked the first week in March and will cancel if there will be NO POOH!! I need enough notice to find another place to eat, lol.

I have it booked the second week of march and will also need to find another place to eat (but where else at MK besides the castle can you eat before the park opens?)

Do you know when they are stopping characters at the liberty tree?

I couldn't find the exact date but it is right after the 1st of the year...I think it might be the 5th as the first day without characters.

Per Deb's site (www.allearsnet.com):

Liberty Tree Tavern - Beginning January 5, 2009, the Magic Kingdom's Liberty Tree Tavern will no longer offer character dining. The last character dinner at the Tavern will be on January 4, 2009. (Posted July 1, 2008)

I wonder why, the only reason (besides money) I can see is because some people just HAVE to see the characters without being seated first. Its really annoying when you're eating and these random people who just walked through the door run up the stairs and come to your table and keep asking saying "Minnie! Can we have a picture!?" when it is your turn. That is why I like how the set up is at the Crystal Palace- no one is allowed into the resturant until their name is called.
The last time we ate at the Liberty Tree Tavern that did happen- and not just a little kid but a 40 year old or so woman. It was hilarious because Minnie just very gently pushed her a little- just to show her that she needed to go away. I wish I had my camera! That lady's face was just so funny, she looked so shocked that Minnie would shun her like that.
But yes... that's an opinion on why.

Oh I hope it is not true either. We just love the CP and Pooh. I was never a big fan of Pooh when I was growing up but now that we have little ones I just love love love Pooh..

So do you know it is not true, I have a ressie for my nephews birthday in March- he said he wanted to eat with Pooh and Mickey that day....

CP w/o characters would be ok from our perspective. Just as long as they don't turn in into ANOTHER PRINCESS meal..... Now, a pirate meal would be nice though.... Just think Ladies- lunch w/ Jack..
