No more Main Street Bakery?

Whilst I enjoy a Starbucks I don't think they should arrive at the expense of family favourite spots. I doubt you can use the Disney Dining Plan in them either :sad1:

I can't stand Starbucks so I can't even use that as consolation :crazy2:

Whilst I didn't use Main St bakery very often I will use Starbucks even less. I am not one for buying coffee.

:sad2::sad2::sad2:

Can't believe it - read a rumour a while back and hoped it would be true.

I adore Starbucks and I love their "hot milky fluid" latte as I've been told I can't call it coffee :rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2: and I'm happy that I'm able to get it in WDW, HOWEVER to see such a wonderful family shop sacrificed for such obvious commercialism saddens me greatly :sad2::sad2::sad2:

Really?? A wonderful family shop sacrificed for commercialism? Now I'm not overly happy either about Main St Bakery going, but it's not really a wonderful family shop! And sacrificed for commercialism? Wdw is pretty much the epitome of commercialism!!!

I'll wait to hear more details and reserve my judgement til we see how they're going to handle this change :)

It's really sad! :( It is so cool in there and now it's not going to be the same!! Stupid Starbucks!

i just left a comment on the blog - i wonder if they'll post it (it's waiting "moderation" - though the comment is anything but moderate)...

starbucks????????? bleccch!!!!
replacing main street bakery with starbucks?????

is there an icon for upchucking?

they're replacing all the yummy main street bakery items with the baked garbage sold at starbucks?????

if they wanted to provide a good cup of coffee, why not go for one of the many outstanding european brands???? starbucks?????? blech!!!!
and if they didn't want to sell a european brand because it's supposed to be main street USA, then at least pick one of the halfway decent american coffee brands....
starbucks is better than the swill currently sold at disney, but good it's not...

have you ever had a cup of their cappuccino? any 5 year old italian could make it better.... heck, i make a better cup at home with my nespresso machine..

starbucks coffee and baked goods????? blech!!!

i wonder how much starbucks is paying disney for this permanent advertisement of bad american coffee and processed baked goods?

Gutted! There's a Starbucks on every flaming corner and now there's going to be one in MK and Epcot!!! :furious: So much for offering something different! :(

Personally I think its dreadful that they are doing this, yes Disney is commercialism but thats what we go there for 'Disney' not starbucks. I think to walk into MK and see a starbucks is dreadful. I would have thought DTD would have been a better place with its variety of non Disney stores already there. Personally I think the parks should only be Disney and nothing else. What about a Mcdonalds inside the castle as well:rotfl:

I agree with that mostly, I was just pointing out that it was hardly Starbucks taking over a family restaurant!

The Starbucks in Cali seem to have been well I implemented which was why I am reserving judgement.

It's hardly the first time non disney has been in parks either is it. There were McDonalds in MK and Epcot, and even Epcots fish and chips is Harry Ramsdens!

Just trying to add a bit of balance to the discussion despite that fact that my own personal first reaction to the news was a negative expletive ;)

Bad news - can't believe they are going ahead with this.:scared:

High Street coffee is way overpriced but if I must buy one, it would be a Costa but they haven't crossed the Atlantic yet.

Not sure how I feel about this... I mean I do love a cup of Starbucks (skinny caramel macchiato please!! :rotfl2:), but replacing Main St bakery with it? Hmmmmm...

Having a Starbucks in the park doesn't annoy me per se, it's not as if it's gonna be all green and sticky-outy like your average high street one; they'll theme it to the area, so it'll look fine... What's getting me at the moment is the fact that I'll never have the chance to walk into Main St Bakery again! Selfish I know :rotfl2:

I knew a Starbucks was coming to each park, but I assumed they would just find somewhere new to plonk it; it didn't actually occur to me that they would shut something else down to replace it :scared:

I have no idea how the setup is in DL, but are they actually going to make it entirely into a Starbucks? Or would they keep the Main St Bakery items and sandwiches etc, and just add Starbucks coffee to it? I wonder....

total sad face on this one.....
Just read all the details on the disney food blog........Closing January 2013 till summerish. So sad, Ive never been to main street bakery and was soooooooooooooooo excited to visit :( I can go to starbucks any time grrr.....

To those of you that are veterans of main street bakery, there is a picture on the disney food blog of a similar starbucks shop in disneyland, can you identify the treats....? Silly question but do they still look like the regular Disney ones or are they completely starbucks own brand?? Im not familiar enough with main street bakerys current items to tell from the image. (i see a few mickey mouse shaped treats BUT this could be one or two to keep a tiny bit of disney in with the starbucks own brand stuff)

Will be really sad if its just all starbucks regular snack items on the menu.

Well I'm gutted, as much as we love our Starbucks it seems a stupid idea, I love the theming on Main Street and the bakery is one of our favouites, especially the hot cinnamon rolls! Wish we could have done a petition to stop it! :worship:

I agree with this, and again, I accept that the Starbucks issue is my personal taste - or in the case of starbucks imo, tasteLESS. I could microwave a mug of milk and put sprinkles on it at home if I wanted one of their latte's :rotfl2:

I understand from another thread that the 'favorite' items from MSB like the cinnamon rolls for example, are available somewhere in Fantasyland so it seems that they are keeping some of the good sellers onsite but in a different location. I suppose for those going to be in Fantasyland in any event this won't take them out of their way, but with my DD now older, it's a part of the park that we pop into once or twice on a visit to see it and that's it. It will be interesting to see what they do. I just hope they don't destroy the character and theming of that part of Main Street with big Starbucks 21st Century style signage.

The darn place was covered with scrims for months while they re-did the facade (ruining people's photos in the process :rotfl: ) and now they will have to do it all over again?! Urgh, as my DD would say "WHATever!"

I love Starbucks... like really like Starbucks, but does anybody else think that taking over the bakery on Main Street is a perfectly HORRID idea...

I had a cinnamon roll at Gastons last Saturday. Nowhere near the same. It was dry, tasteless and hardly any icing on.
