No more Main Street Bakery?

MODS - delete this post, buds! I should have checked the forum before posting - there's an almost identical thread below! Sorry!

I had a cinnamon roll at Gastons last Saturday. Nowhere near the same. It was dry, tasteless and hardly any icing on.

Oh don't say that :( I believe this is where the so-called substitute is to be found, unless I misunderstood (and hope this is the case having read your post!)

The next thing they will do is open a McDonald's in Cosmic Rays.

Opening a Starbucks in the MK is nothing short of scandalous. If they want a Starbucks on Disney Property, put it with all the other commercial eateries at Downtown.

Maybe they will change the ice cream parlour into a Ben & Jerry's and the Grand Floridian will become a Hilton Hotel.

We used the Main Street Bakery a lot with our snack credits when we were last there.

I'm wondering whether all of this Internet teeth gnashing is anything to do with 'commercialism' or more to do with not wanting change.

Corporate sponsorship is all over wdw, always has been, always will be. Casey's Corner has fairly sizeable Coca Cola signs on the front of the building. There have even been McDonalds in the parks!

As I said, ill wait to see the designs or whatever for this new Starbucks before making any real judgement, but from the pictures I've seen of the California Adventure Starbucks it looks pretty unobtrusive in terms of Starbucks logos etc :)

:goodvibes

It is for sure resistance to change. You will always find this particularly with Disney regulars, especially those who have been visiting for a number of years and have a sentimental attachment to the memories within the familiarity. I will be frank, and think I have been: I can't stand Starbucks coffee (and I use the term 'coffee' very loosely as I have never been fortunate enough to be able to trace any in my mug of milk!) However as I also said, that is my personal opinion based on my own taste. By all means, if the majority want Starbucks, give it to them. I wont' resist that. I just don't think the Main Street is the place to put it. As for my own coffee, I tend to drink it at ther resort, not at the parks and can find another location to get it.

But Main Street Bakery holds happy memories for me too and is something of an icon in it's own right on Main Street USA.

This makes me sad if they remove all the tastey treats and change them, leaving the store to be turned into a Starbucks.

Guess its a waiting game to see exactly how it's done :(

Hopefully it will stay as a Disney establishment, serving Starbucks products as well.
Will we still be able to use DDP credits??
I wouldn't mind strolling around the park with a strawberry & cream frappo, especially if I can get it on DDP

I too will miss the Main Street bakery and the treats such as the Cinnamon Roll or cookie sandwich :sad1: I don't think it should go - just have a Starbucks coffee cart somewhere if they must!!

Going by what they did in California, you should still be able to use your dining plan credits there. They are just going to have a range of Starbucks products available alongside the Disney offerings. No doubt they will be cutting the less popular items currently there to make way for new additions. Not sure what to think really.

All this being said, and still having a nostalgic attachment to this place in particular which brings sweet memories of our first night ever at MK, our last two years we have had our only real 'issues' with a CS location right at MSB. I very nearly lost my cool this year and ended up leaving my whole tray of food on top of a trash can in September after 40 minutes in there ..... and last year I dumped a tray at the cashier's station and walked out. So maybe that helps me accept the change more easily.

Okay I love a good starbucks and having a nice cold frapp on a warm day waiting for the parade would be amazing....

But....

The main street bakery has so many memories for my family and I and to get rid of it for a coffee shop that you can find anywhere, especially in the states, I am so so disappointed. Its such a shame, really is.

That's rubbish I have been several times to Disney and without fail we have always bought a cake for breakfast. So sad, if you want Starbucks then put it somewhere else, surely the bakery should stay unique rather than commercialised, overprice, mediocre coffee taking over. :0(

are you sure they'll be keeping the mainstreet baked goods along side the starbucks items?
it sounded to me like it would be exclusively starbucks products....
i hope you're right that at least some of the original items will still be there!!! :)

Ooooooh Noooooooooooooooooooooo......;( this means ill never get to try the original awsomeness :( (though trying to be the mini optimist, I have nothing to compare it too so gastons might be actually taste good to me lol) who am I kidding I'm gutted I've drooled over dining reports and trip reports with pictures of the original main street bakery cinnamon roll with extra frosting!!!! :(

You'll need a Starbucks in the morning after having had a few drinks in be our guest the night before! :( oh the magic kingdom is changing

Honestly guys I doubt it's going to be that much of a difference.

I've had a look at what they did in DCA and from the outside there is no Starbucks branding and even inside it just looks like every other Disney counter service.

Disney aren't idiots, they aren't going to slowly start turning Main St into a strip mall. If I'm remembering correctly isn't the Ice Cream parlor a Ben & Jerrys? And when I was at DLR there were McDonalds carts about and they didn't ruin themeing.

All I ever see on the Dis is people complain about the crappy WDW coffee. Disney are probably aware of those complaints too. They can't really win I don't think.

Summed up exactly how I feel, and why I'm taking a wait and see approach before frothing at the mouth about it.

DISWolves, I didn't think of how this might lead to some Starbucks ice drinks being available. That would be even better.

This is what got from Gaston's, none of the nice gooey topping like you get at MSB plus the roll itself was really dry, needed to drink with it, I couldn't eat it on its own.
