No More Key West Beach Break

Just got home to find a message on my answering machine that the Key West Beach Break is no longer offered! I wonder why...that sure dissapeared quickly! I had pre-booked it a while back. Not sure what I'll be doing there now...I was planning to relax on the beach while hubby was off sailing and snorkeling.

I am not sure where the beach break was suppose to take you - If you want to go to the beach I would go to Fort Zachary Taylor Beach. It is not far from Mallory Square - you access the beach through the Truman Annex. You can rent chairs and there is a little snack bar. Shirley may be able to provide more info. I will be on the cruise this Saturday as well - we are looking forward to combining our 2 favorite vacation spots - Disney and Key West - and looking forward to meeting you.

Hello Barb - honestly - do not know what "Key West Beach Break" is and who offers it - As Jupiter said - the Fort Taylor Beach is beautiful and most folks do not know about it - this fort has a lot of history behind it - it was were prisoners (pirates etc) were held - at one time, noone was allowed there - in fact I didn't see it for "real" until a few years ago - it was gated off and it was the Navy's recreation place - I have a Key West book to give you that will you more insight on what to see and who to see - I got some of the pamplets to put into the baskets for those going on the western cruise - I will be going down next month and hope to be able to answer any questions someone may have while I am down there - try to go to the top of the hotel LaConcha - what a view of the city and ocean.

Wow! Cancelled after only one cruise! They must have gotten some really scathing remarks on the comment cards. I can't say that I'm surprised... Key West is a neat city, but the beaches really aren't all that spectacular... particularly when compared to Nassau, Freeport, St Thomas, St John, St Maarten, Grand Cayman, Cancun, Cozumel, and Castaway Cay. I suppose that offering a "Beach Break" excursion implies that the beaches are spectacular... folks may have felt they didn't get their money's worth.

But I agree with the others... the nicest beach on the island is at Fort Zachary Taylor.

I agree the beaches in KW stink - it wasn't always that way but the county doesn't do enough to take it back to the way it once was - guess the KW beach break took the customers "somewhere" to the beaches - wonder which one sure would like to know - if you find out let me know - I love my town but what has been allowed is unbelieveable - anyhow if anyone finds out, please let me know.
