No more fireworks at PI - Sad news for SSR?

I agree with Crisi, it's nice to have an adult place to hang out in the evenings, and if anything I would prefer if under 18's weren't allowed in at all. Let's face it, there are plenty of other places for children to enjoy themselves in the evenings. :)

Personally, I think the time for PI has passed. I enjoyed PI before it completely opened the gates to everyone, but mostly because of the different restaurants and shops that used to be there. I think Disney really needs to refurbish the entire area. I think there needs to be more unique shops, better entertainment, and an overall facelift.

I don't have a problem with a 12 year old walking through with their parents. I have more of a problem going into Portobellos, paying $30 for an entray, and not being able to hear myself think or speak to my wife on our anniversary.

I hope they don't get rid of the Adventurer's Club or the Comedy Club. My DH and I finally went to them after one of the DVC parties in July and enjoyed them. We aren't into the dance clubs and haven't been to them. I think DTD has plenty of restaurants already.

We took great pains to get down to the "viewing" area the first night, grabbed two chairs, and waited. They seemed to last less than a minute. The next night we were there we timed them at 45 seconds by my watch. So not much of a loss to SSR. I'd say go to MK and see Wishes or, if you don't want to be in a park, have a late dinner at one of the Epcot resorts and see Illuminations from the bridge between Boardwalk and Beach Club. Those are worth seeing!

I mean, it was a main selling point of DVC, to have a fireworks viewing area.

Maybe they will put in better fireworks, and have them launch on the weekends.

At any rate, that is what I am hoping for....

My initial thought was if it is a cost issue to have the fireworks just at the weekends and last a bit longer might do the trick.

It would be nice to have something special at SSR

Maybe they should set off half of the fireworks at PI and the other half at SSR at midnight. They could have viewing areas at both venues. Someone wrote that the Reedy Creek Fire Dept. is accross the street. This would take care of any safety concerns. Maybe they could add OKW into the mix and complete the fireworks trifecta.
Of course this is joke. I own at SSR and loved the relaxed and quiet atmosphere when I bought in. DW and I can still make our own fireworks at midnight. :love2:

I will have to make it a point to see them on this next trip, even if they are a few seconds long. But in reality if they go away it really won't disappoint me as I am rarely up at midnight anyway.

We've seen them twice: once from our CP balcony, once from the Viewing Area (on our way back from PI). I won't really miss them - if you want fireworks, there are plenty of better options at WDW (but I can't for the life of me figure out how 45 seconds of heavily-muffled thuds at midnight could wake folks up.)

As for PI - giving it some thought, I agree that it's time for a radical transformation: either put it back the way it was when it opened, or make it a Restaurant Row between DTD and WE. We loved PI when it opened, as it offered a 'safe' barhopping opportunity to some (then) 30-somethings who never really barhopped. Plus it did provide one of the few 'kid-free' zones at WDW. Lately - since they've made the place 'open' - it doesn't seem any different from, say WS at EPCOT. Walking around a multi-themed area full of kids & adults where you can go in an eat a meal or see a show. It's neither fish nor fowl; it needs a stronger identity, whatever it turns out to be.

But yes, I hope whatever that is, there's a home for the AC.
