I called to change my res. the other day with the new code. The CM I talked to suggested SPR. I said Isnt that just for DVC members and she said no and that they are discontinuing the DVC alltogether, so it will be for anyone.
I didnt know they were discontinuing the DVC. Its funny because My DH and I were just thinking about joining. Oh well that helped us decide!
I wonder how this will work with the people that already are members. do they lose out or will they be able to keep useing there point and just not be able to get more?
It seems sad...:(
Is all of Disney going under??
What will we do then???

Someone gave you some bad info.... Legally the DVC can't be "discontinued".

Maybe she got confused with Disney Club.

SPR? Sarasota Springs Resort? DVC is already selling points for this resort and are planning a grand opening in May. CRO can rent rooms that members don't reserve plus DVC retains some rooms and rents them.

DVC is a real estate interest. They can't discontinue it, just as they couldn't "discontinue" your home.

Are you confusing the Disney VACATION Club (timeshare) with the Disney Club (discount program)???

While Geoff_M is right, I can just imagine how this thread is going to affect some folks; look what the Comcast bid did....

RFOL!!! Since that's my only reaction to this post!

Dalpal -- You have received bad information and are now spreading it. The DVC resorts have always been available to non-members through Disney's reservation system. I have no idea what the CM told you or what you are trying to convey. The Disney Club (totally seperate from DVC) has been discontinued and replaced by the Disney Visa Rewards System. The Disney Vacation Club is alive and well as is one of the most profitable components of the Disney Company. DVC is now working toward membership at over 100,00.

I'm also a little confused about the CM suggesting Saratoga Springs Resort. I didn't think they were accepting reservations yet. They don't have it listed on the Disney site.

I am not trying to start anything.
I am just passing on info that I was given.
I am not a DVC person and dont know that much about it.

I was a DC card holder and I am aware that it has been discontinued.
I am also a DV holder and I know the differance.

I just thought it was an interesting piece of information, that I could maybe help other posters with.
I did not want to get flamed, because of it.

Sorry for the misinformation, if that is what it is. I will be more careful about what I pass along in the future.

I don't see anyone flaming you.

I just think it gave a few people a good laugh because there is always so much misinformation given by the CM's at CRO.

They were probably just confused with the Disney Club.

You said you were a DV holder? What is that?

:D

So, since your not a DVC member, perhaps you could explain what this "DV" or "DVC" you are speaking about is?

DV(Disney Visa)

Sorry for the misunderstanding:D

Your 3 posts have me completely confused! Did you think DVC ( the timeshare) was really what was being canceled? What is SPR?

I do not see anyone flaming the OP but I do think some of the responses posted were not exactly nice either!
I think she was sincerely just trying to pass on information she had been told by a CM.
Yes, the info was incorrect but the fact still remains that she was trying to be helpful.
I just love the holier than thou, self appointed DIS DVC board police around here! It seems as though their numbers grow larger everyday. Soon the moderators will not even be needed!

DVC(disney vacation club)
The CM and I were talking about all the new or refurished resorts and I was trying to decide what I wanted to do for next year(I wanted a new resort, but not a value). She suggested SSR. and then we got to talking about it being a DVC resort. Then she said that they were dicontinuing the DVC altogether anyway so it will be a reg. resort. then for anyone.
That is what I was passing along.
DVC...ie: the timeshare

SSR(Saritoga Springs Resort)

Obviously that castmember was very confused! Sorry you felt flamed. I didn't see it that way at all, but I was very confused after reading everything. My immediate reaction was wondering if the cast member still had a job!:teeth: If you go to WDW often, perhaps you should look into DVC. It is the best thing we ever did!

Well, it seems that either the CM had bad information, or there is sometig going on that we members don't know about yet!

My guess is that the CM misunderstood some piece of information she was given. There would be many legal "gyrations" that Disney would have to go through to disband the DVC.

Or perhaps she was referring to the fact that DVC properties can be ented through the regular CRO process, Disney does keep a certain number of units available for "regular" renters(regular as opposed to those who are DVC renters using points). If that is what she meant, she really presented it in a very confusing manner.

In any event, if you're thining of joining DVC, I would. We've been members since 1997, and it's one of the best things we've ever done!

BWVDee,
Thank you
:D

dianeschlicht & Disney Doll,
We were thinking about it...but it is still very much up in the air. I guess I will have to look into it when we go.
It is hard to plan on the cost with everything else going on in our life right now.(We are building a house...no builders, just my DH and myself)
With nine grandchildren it would be a fun thing to be into though.

:sunny:

Let me ask this then:

Did you by chance get the CM's name?

Perhaps you call back and talk to same CM again and get story straight. Maybe CM was confused, new or trying to start leak that is wrong information. Tell her to check her info first! Pretty bad thing to say to potential DVC members looking into it.

That is why this board is so great! We learn we learn we learn!
But seriously think about it....Disney is making money with DVC so why in the world stop it?

Silly huh?

Dalpal thank you for being thoughful and trying to offer the info that was given to you by the cm, i agree the cm was wrong and dvc members were not trying to flame you.

being a dvc member we all are very protected of our investment, and if dvc was to be no longer , :scared1: ( after 2050) we would be one of the first to hear about it.

i hope you do decide to join our neighborhood and try ressies at one of our home resorts, you will be hooked, enjoy your vacation:sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :sunny: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug: :wizard: :wizard: :wizard:
