Just got aboard Fantasy at port canaveral and no gift basket. I was very surprised. What is the status of DU gift baskets.

As you may or may not have read on the DISBoards, The Perfect Gift in Cape Canaveral is currently unable to make deliveries to the Disney Cruise Line ships in Port Canaveral. The Perfect Gift is our partner in delivering our Gift Bags to our clients on Disney Cruise Line ships so this has impacted our ability to get these to our clients.

This came as a surprise and shock to us so we didn't have a back-up plan in place for sailings leaving soon from Port Canaveral and unfortunately we could not place our gift baskets in staterooms for your sailing.

Please accept my apologies for the inconvenience.

We are currently working on an alternative option to get our Gift Bags to our clients.

If you are going to be in the Port Canaveral area after the cruise and have a vehicle please stop in our Welcome Center and we can give you your Gift Bag at the time. In addition all Dreams Unlimited Travel clients that visit our Welcome Center receive a special gift for stopping in and saying 'Hi'.

Again, I apologize that we could not deliver your Gift Bag to the ship but I hope you have a Magical Disney Cruise Line vacation!!

If you like you can email me directly at John@DreamsUnlimitedTravel.com

There's another thread that explains what has happpened:

In short, DU used Shirley from The Perfect Gift to put together and deliver the gift baskets. DCL has decided to not allow certain vendors to provide these services to their ships. It sounds as though the change was made with little or no notice.

:confused3Well this really stinks. We really look forward to our DU basket, filled with goodies.

That's a bummer that we won't have one when we sail in January.

Bad move on Disney's part :confused3

We are sailing next Saturday on the Fantasy. If we stop by before the cruise, could we get our gift then, too? We were looking forward to it as well. I agree, it was not a great move on Disney's part.

What are the kind of stuff that are put in the gift basket? Where exactly is the welcome center though?

Some things I remember are dry erase board, highlighters, deck of cards, drink mugs, fruit snacks (didn't care for those), magnetic clip...lots of useful stuff.

From a business standpoint, wouldn't more people book directly through Disney instead of using DU (which they pay commissions to?). Wouldn't that also mean that agents that want to send gifts to their clients on board would need to use their over priced, on board DCL services? I think its a win for Disney, and a lose for travel agents like myself (although I only do corporate travel bookings, not leisure travel, so DU is not my competitor).

It's right on the "main drag" through Cocoa Beach/Cape Canaveral--don't worry, you can't miss it. It's in a little shopping center on the east side of the road.

yes - if you stop by the welcome center (address above) you can pick up your gift basket and your gift for being a Dreams Unlimited Travel client.

Please email me at John@DreamsUnlimitedTravel.com so I can make sure your gift basket is ready and waiting for you.

I love Disney but I have to wonder if they took this action to not have their "gift" look so lame in comparison. We have only sailed 3x: Dec 2012, Mar 2014 and Dec 2014. The difference in the DCL gift between Mar and Dec was amazing and disappointing. In Mar we got a bag, a magnet board, and I cannot remember what else. In Dec we just got an updated bag -- nothing inside. I don't sail for the gifts (obviously) but in Dec 2014 we purchased thru DU for the first time and got an amazing basket: cups, candy, marker boards, glow stick, and other items.

Anyhow, IMHO I don't think Disney is playing nice. It sounds like they didn't even give DU or The Perfect Gift proper notice. I don't think that this good business practice, these are small businesses that make an honest living off of their services. It is a shame.

I don't think it has to do with the difference between a purchased basket and the gift from the Castaway Club. They are two different things.

The gift from the CC is a thank you from DCL for cruising with them again. It's a freebee (nothing from DCLs pockets) that can be changed at any time.

The "gift" from DU, or the baskets from Shirley, are purchased and can be quite elaborate. From DU it's a thank you for using them to book your cruise (comes out of their profit). From Shirley, you pay for them yourself and can customize them as you wish.

Both the DU and DCL CC are thank you gifts.

I cannot speak to the for purchase gift baskets from either Disney or Shirley but from what I've read it sounds like she cannot deliver the DU thank you gift or any other gift basket to Disney cruise ships.

So is this for good? We are cruising Jan 10th. We booked through DU and only recently found out about the gift baskets. I thought they were a nice perk, but of course understand if this had to be discontinued. I just want to know so we can plan to bring water bottle, travel mugs that I've heard are part of the DU basket. We can't stop by the welcome Center because we won't have a car.

to update how DU is handling baskets currently: we are cruising out on 1/16 and received the DU gift basket at our home yesterday via USPS. Thanks John!

I've seen what DCL offers and I liked Shirley's better . It was more personalized to the recipient. That's to bad I can't order one for our next cruise my daughters loved them.
