No More Disney Dollars@ Disney Store!

I went to my local Disney Store today to purchase some Disney Dollars for my family members for our upcoming cruise. I thought this to be a better idea than cash because I know they will save it to spend on the ship. Imagine my surprise when I was told they didn't have any more and wouldn't be getting any in for many months. The sales clerk said Disney is changing the Dollars and will reissue them with the new design in the spring/summer. I am soooo disappointed. I guess that's what I get for shopping last minute!

They also said that the Disney Store is no longer owned by Disney. They said they were bought out by The Children's Place company.

Just thought I'd let you all know that if you are in need of Disney Dollars, get them now if they have any in your local store.

Sounds like they were just out of stock at that particular DS and are getting more in. That's actually good news isn't it? There was some speculation that DS may not carry Disney Dollars anymore because they're no longer owned by Disney.

I posted this on the CB yesterday. I also went to my local Disney store looking for Disney dollars for a gift. All out of them. They even said that every store in the entire Chicago area was out of them (there's about 6), except MAYBE downtown Chicago. No way am I driving downtown for some Disney cash.

You are correct - it does not pay to procrastinate.

The Disney Stores are indeed now owned by Hoops Retail which also own Children's Place Stores....the turnover was in late November of this year. The stores will still sell Disney Dollars and that they are being redesigned is news to me, but it could be true. I have not heard anything at our store yet. I know we currently still have Disney Dollars to sell and have been told we will continue to sell them in the future. The store will sell the same product they currently sell and it will still be called the Disney Store but will be owned by a different company. All the current Disney Store locations will eventually get remodeled but still remain Disney Stores. so there will be two distinct set of stores.....The Disney Stores and the Children's Place stores...but they will both be owned by Hoops Retail.

It sounds like the OP's store is just out of DD.

Hubby bought some 1s for me last Friday. But a friend that works at the store said that they wouldn't be getting any 5s or 10s until Feb or March. The redesign has to do with the 50 year celebration I believe. The one's were new.. they had Chicken Little on them! My advice is to call before you go to find out for sure what the stores still have.

We were told they want to keep each store with its own identity...they do not want to combine them.

We have a Children's Place in our mall but it is on a different floor than the Disney Store.

Live near the Disney Corporate Office in California. The wife of one my majors works in the office and she is going to convert cash to disney dollars for me at teh Employee only store located in the Complex.

I work at a DS in NJ and was told by my manager that we were told by Disney that we won't be getting anymore disney dollars til Mid Spring..Not sure what month Mid Spring is but ok...

We ARE going to be getting them but not sure when. Was told that Disney is in the process as we speak in reproducing them but for the 50th anniversary of Disney Land with all new designs on them...

Yes the Hoop Retail bought us out but like the other post I was told that the CP will NOT carry any Disney merchandise and the Disney Store will NOT carry any CP merchandise. The will still be consider 2 different stores.

MANY of the DS and CP will be closing for remodling and then reopened, not sure when that project starts. I was even told there is a future home for 3 or 4 HUGE castle Stores ( which by the way cost a Million $ each to build) soooooooo we shall all have to wait and see what the future holds...

Oh and I forgot to mention the DS will NO longer carry Disney Catalogs IF you haven't already heard that. The catalog is still owned by Disney so they changed names to Disney Direct Merchandising or something like that..

Just went to Disney store today in PA and got $100.00 Disney Dollars but in all $1!! They were out of 10 and 5's,. I guess i shouldn't complain!! At least i was able to get em!! Got the envelopes too!!

Yes you can send money to your shipboard account. You have to have your sail date and your ressie number. I havent done this yet but I did call Disney to make sure it was true.

I too, was collecting Disney Dollars and have 495.00 of them but cannot find them anymore so I am going to call Disney and put money on my account. I was also told that the Dinsey Dollars will be back in probably March with the 50th Anniversary on them.

A few months ago I was in the WWD Store in Manhattan (which is owned by Disney, not CP) and thought I would pick up some Disney Dollars as a gift for DS. The CM told me she couldn't "sell" them to me because they weren't going to have them anymore, but could swap the ones she had for cash (which I didn't quite know why that was) but unfortunately I didn't have the cash so I couldn't swap them (I was looking to use my Disney Visa). I had my DS with me and since the trip is a surprise, I wasn't really able to carry on a conversation with the CM, but figured I would check out the local Disney store and get to the bottom of this. Of course they, being owned by CP didn't know anything about not having them anymore and said they still had them. I was leary about purchasing them because I felt if the WWD store (actually owned by Disney) wasn't going to have them anymore, would they still be honored at Disney World if they were purchased at a CP owned Disney store. The CM really had no clue or any information, so here I am "disney dollarless". Does anyone know why the WWD store in Manhattan isn't going to have them anymore? Just curious since they're actually owned by Disney, and am I assuming correctly that if my local Disney store in the mall (owned by CP) has any, they will be honored in Disney (my trip isn't until Sept)?

Does anyone know if the new Disney Store will still offer a discount for DVC members? Will there be any other changes? Like, can you still purchase passes? I really like my discount and would hate to lose it.
