No More Chase Disney Debit Card Reward Program

WOW

:confused3If I would have known posters could ATTACK a simple posting the way they did.............I never would have posted the complete information. I was not selling the Chase card......nor defending their practices. Just stating the facts.
Hope all have a nice day, now that some of you vented your anger.

Remember we are on the site of the HAPPIEST PLACE ON EARTH:flower3:.

Safe travels.

I think the problem may be partly due to the font size of your posts. It's a little jarring and some will assume you are yelling or being sarcastic.

:thumbsup2Thank you.
I guess as you get into the age of needing reading glasses, I acquired a tendency to post in a large size.

I did not mean to come off as a know it all, in fact, I thought I was being helpful.

Your insight is greatly appreciated.

Have a good day.

Safe travels

I did not think she was being sarcastic, but it was certainly hard to read her reply with it being so large. Of course, the statement that if we "read the documentation with our paperwork" could come across some as to be sarcastic.

I would suggest that if she sticks around here, she get thicker skin. I did not find any posts we had as being one to mark down as having a bad day. As a matter of fact, as a course of action, it's best on a message board not to read too much into people's intentions.

How nice of you to assume people are angry. I have no anger at Chase. I just refuse to do business with them. No anger. Other people can choose to bank with them. I move on, but I don't miss a chance to state why I think they, as a company, are poor to do business with.

I also mention companies I would do business with in a heartbeat. Call it offering public awareness.

Just saw this on the new tonight that its all chase debit cards :( I guess after July I will just use my usaa account or get the credit card

Unfortunately there will be a lot of debit cards that will lose their rewards due to the new act. The retailers will be making big bucks off the debit card uses while banks and credit unions will have to pass the losses onto their consumers.

Time to start writing to your Congressmen and Senators in hopes to get that act changed.

I am confused though, how will the retailers be making big bucks if I use my debit card?

...in general, I've seen them backing away from many of their Visa/mastercard amazing promotions this year...

I haven't been inside a bank more than 10 times in the past 5 years. That's what direct deposit, online banking and ATMs are for. Yet for some reason, every other new building I see going up around here is a bank. I don't think we're in any danger of not having a convenient bank available.

I have wondered the same thing. I've only been inside a bank twice in the last 10 years, both times it was to get a cashier's check for a downpayment on a house. Yet there are new banks on every corner :confused3

sadface I have only had my chase debit card for 18 months and I only opened the account for the debit card rewards...well I guess I will have to close the account bc I don't see any reason I would pay to keep the account. Ill just go back to banking with my credit union...

Does the reward portion include the % off you get for merchandise in the disney shops and the meet & greet and free picture with the fab 5 at epcot?

I have one(strictly for Disney Rewards) but after I pay it off I will cancel it if they are discontinuing program..

I have had a Chase Disney Visa credit card for about a year now. I only opened it for the rewards. I have never had any problem with Chase, but I do pay my balance in full each month. If they ever stopped the rewards with respect to the credit card, I would probably still keep using it. I wouldn't cancel or close a credit card account as I think that actually goes against your credit. I have been under the assumption that it is better to just stop using the card and destroy it, but keep the account open. Someone posted about a $25 annual fee. Does that apply to the credit card? I don't remember paying that fee when I opened the account.

I'm pretty sure that's just the debit card.

Thanks for the reply. I looked through my papers and did find the Cardmember Agreement (Rates and Fees Tables) and you are right - there is no annual fee for the credit card.

This is really disappointing! I use my debit card to pay for everything so I rack up spending money for our trips without even trying. I know the rewards are much less than other reward cards but we USE these so it works for us. Arg! :sad1:

Whoa you you have some serious misconceptions. Retailers won't be MAKING any money on this. The limits are on what retailers are CHARGED for processing transactions. All these rewards that people are so fond of are not paid by your bank or creditor they are paid for by ridiculous fees paid by retailers each and every time you use a credit or debit card. As a small business owner I can tell that I pay a significant amount each month in Merchant Fees and any sort of "Rewards" cards are processed a higher rate. You've been paying these extra fees that you say the banks will pass on to you by paying more at every retailer you shop at. Any cost of doing business, like merchant fees, are passed on to the consumer in order to stay profitable.

that is the problem. Now that these fees are capped and lowered the consumer is still paying them. The cost that was built in to cover it will now be going to the merchant. Nothing here protected the consumer.

Credit card interchange was not included in the Dodd-Frank bill, which is why credit card rewards are probably safe for the short term.

I wouldn't use a credit card from Chase, Citi, CapitalOne or BoA, much less get a debit thru them... they all remind me of Mr Potter in "It's a Wonderful Life."

As for the banking bill -- with legislators like these, who needs Mr Potter?

I AGREE!!!

No money is going to the retailer, these are fees paid by the retailer that go directly to the banks. Most merchant agreements also strictly forbid charging any kind of transaction fee to the consumer as well as giving cash discounts. Anything that raises fees to the retailer are passed on as higher costs of goods. The banks are the ones who have been making out like bandits charging outrageous fees to retailers for low risk transactions so they can fund your rewards. As it stands now EVERYONE pays higher costs, even those people who pay in cash. If people want ease of debit or like the rewards then they should know what they are paying for it, not have it hidden in inflated costs of goods. The banks are charging retailers BILLIONS of dollars in fees (that are essentially paid by you) and then giving you back a few pennies on the dollar and you are complaining about losing this arrangement?

It's not just with the Disney debit card. Chase is ceasing all debit card reward programs. I assume all of them will.

If you don't like it, remember that we voted for it and we can also vote against it.
