No more All Hands on Deck :(

The free items on the new room service menu appear to me to be only items that can be found at the pool deck or in the buffet. So room service can just run by and pick these up. In other words, they aren't making anything special for us anymore, they are just delivering to us what we could already get for ourselves.

But room service is open 24 hours a day except for lifeboat drill and the last night of your cruise

Sorry, I didn't mean for that to sound personal to what you said. I was just thinking out loud too. A generic "why should we have to worry about discussing items we like" rather than me questioning why you in particular posted that (if that makes sense). Pretty sad if we have to start censoring the good things on DCL for fear that they will be taken away :(
No worries and thank you and I know what you mean too :thumbsup2

I'm just trying to say that they aren't offering anything that you can't already get for yourself. Yes, they are bringing it to you at 2am when everything else is closed. But it's still things I could have picked up for myself.

The old menu had items that weren't readily available for a significant part of the day like a Grilled Salmon Steak and a Chicken and Guacamole Fajita. Now you won't be able to get these items at all, 6pm or 2am. If you wanted to take a Grilled Salmon Steak from the MDR on the days you could get it, you would need to plan to order one for later, either eat it cold from your fridge or at air temp because you can no longer order it from room service and eat it while it's hot.

Has anyone emailed dcl regarding this?

I just wanted to express my disappointment with the recent changes. Some I understand but most I don't. Everyone say that DCL is different due to the little things. Well it seems to me that the little things are now either disappearing or becoming a "nickle & dime" situation. Please do not respond with "in line with industry standards". If I wanted industry standard I would have saved thousands and tried another cruise line.

Changes:

no more Mickey Mail (character signatures) though Guest Services
alcohol policy has changed -- maximum 2 bottles of wine or champagne OR 6 bottles of beer at embarkation and each port stop
meet and greet tickets (free) for Princess Gatherings and Frozen characters
OBB placeholder for $250 instead of dummy bookings
onboard bookings must take place within 24 months
black out dates apply to OBBs
no more All Hands on Deck cheese platter through Room Service
no exceptions to the minimum age of 3 for the Oceaneers Club/Lab
no exceptions to the maximum age limits for all kids club spaces
potty-trained no longer a requirement for the Club/Lab
MagicBand-style bracelets in use for the Club/Lab
recommended tips automatically charged to your stateroom account but can be adjusted at Guest Services
auto-gratuity of 18% for all Spa services
no more "Afternoon High Tea"
possibly no more "Tea with... [Alice/princess/etc.]" on the Classic ships
possibly changes to the character breakfast on the Classic ships (I think the Wonder may still do one but it is a ticketed event, not sure if the Magic has one at all, Fantasy may have a ticketed one with Disney Jr. characters)
there is some form of BBB on the Magic and the Dream as well as the Fantasy now
all 4 ships have mini fridges in the staterooms
queen-size beds cannot be split on any ship
arcades have been removed from some, if not all 4, ships
the Dream has a few new features -- candy/sweets shop, Star Wars in the Club, a family water play area
upcharge for Palo may have increased
upcharges for some additional items at Palo and Remy as well as for some bar food menus

The latest change to the cheese platter really bothers me. Such a simple item is no longer available. Now the only option is the $38 gift platter. WOW

It sure would be nice to see some added items instead of things being removed. Again, I understand some but really a simple cheese plate.

Come on Disney, where is the magic, where is the Pixie Dust, where is the difference that use to make Disney Disney...

Is this the exact email you sent DCL? I see you copied lanejudy's list from the other thread. I think you should have edited that down because there are a couple positive changes on it, like the fridges in all staterooms, the changes to the Oceaneers space on the Dream, and the magic band style bracelets for the kids clubs. Plus, it seems rude to copy someone else's words and represent them as your own without at least editing a little. I think that's my old school English teachers' influence, you can paraphrase but never plagiarize.

Yes, she posted this on another thread (DCL changes) that she'd sent it to DCL.

I did include the positives and the negatives. My point was not that all of the changes have been bad, in fact I agree with some. Maybe my email should have been more clear. My frustration comes from some of the little things, like the cheese plate.

Only other cruise lines "nickel and dime". Disney gives us "options"!! :lmao:

OK, I had to laugh at this one. :rotfl:

I was one that didn't have a problem with the pub food for a fee because they didn't take anything away. It was a new offering and if people didn't want to pay for it, they weren't missing out on something that they had before. But I have been watching the boards closely to see if they remove the free pub food offerings.

But the AHOD situation is different in that they previously offered it for free and have now removed the free platter (that was very popular) and included a way overpriced for-fee version (on the menu itself, I know the platter was offered through in-room gifts before). That definitely feels like nickel and dime stuff to me.

It's very difficult to find a healthy afternoon snack. The cheese and fruit platter was perfect for us with our second dinner seating. We could snack a little around 6pm without ruining our dinners.

I, too, will carry ziplocks to the buffets now. I don't feel comfortable carrying a plate back to my room, as that creates extra work for someone having to return the plate. I have no problem with stuffing throw away baggies full of food if this is how they want to set it up. I can't tell you how many times I've gone in search for a healthy snack and everything was closed and I ended up with some junk like pizza or a hamburger. I know many people say you can't go hungry on a Disney ship, but I think if you want to eat healthy the whole time, you can and will go hungry if you don't bring stuff back from the buffet to keep in your room for later.

I agree with this 100% I was so disappointed in the options for healthy meals and snacks. All I wanted was a giant salad and they did not have one available anywhere on the ship. No where! And this was at lunch time, next day, same problem. I was so shocked. 15 days and 20 pounds heavier, I got off the ship and ate a salad.

I am not okay booking a cruise with DCL and then between the booking and the sailing having perks taken away. I justify the cost with those perks. I get that things happen and a port may not happen or they may run out of a certain food, but to just straight up take something away and not offer an equal or better option is simple corporate greed. I can and will take my business as well as that of my clients to a cruise line that I can trust.

Without the added perks, DCL is just an overpriced cruise line with a bunch of out of control kids aboard.

I've always found fruit, salads, simple wrap sandwiches at the poolside quick serve locations onboard.
