Just found out  that you can't use your DVC point with Holland America to cruise Alaska.

I've been out of the loop for awhile saving my points for a cruise to alaska.
Could someone please update me.

Not sure where you got that information.

I just checked the DVC member site and they are showing the point chart for: Alaska Cruises–Holland America Line (all cruises are 7 nights) 2008 Reservation Points.

The Alaska cruises may be one of the trade options that ends in May of this year. :confused3

Trades to non-DVC locations and activities are renegotiated every year, and can end at anytime.

Rumor has it when the new Disney cruise ships come online, they will offer an Alaskan cruise.

Hi mjy,

I too saw it online today and had the site up when I called DVC the first time today.
I called DVC again to see if I could get more info about it by talking to another CM and did so.
Ideas are that Disney is creating a market for Diney Cruise lines 2 new ships coming out in a couple of years. There is talk that DCL will be making tours of Alaska.

I'm guessing I'd better buy more points cause I'm sure DCL's won't be letting me cruise for 237 points.

You can go to www.adventuresbydisney.com for new adventures with the Adventure collections.

Well, all I can say to that is, "Hello, Alaska!"

I would LOVE for Disney to add Alaska to their cruise itinerary.

My dad and I went to Alaska several times on a couple of different cruise lines and we just loved it! There is, in my opinion, nothing quite like it for the richness in culture, depth of experiences, greatness of creation, et cetera.

I confirmed with MS a month ago that the cruises are gone effective May 31, along with many of the Concierge Collection options. We also saved up points only to find now we can't use them the way we wanted.

Somehow a RUMOR that there MIGHT be a DCL Alaska option in a couple of years doesn't help very much. I am really miffed about all the options that have been eliminated this year. I know people say they are a bad use of points but taking them away will just drive even more people to rent points out so they can pay cash to cover the non-Disney vacations they want to take.

I understand what you are saying.

Let's hope that they, at least, substitute some other good things for the places they are taking away . . .

Remember that it may not have directly been DVCs decision to drop these options. The prices may have increased to the point that the number of points required would not allow DVC to reasonably expect to offset the cost with room rentals. We don't know the whole story, it could be DVC simply wanting to limit options, or could be the fault of the trade location. Personally, I think it is likely some of both.

Sigh... hate to say it but I am not surprised in the least that this option is disappearing. Disney has a cruise line and wants you and your wallet on their ships, not someone else's.

I guess you could really say that about any non-Disney owned option. But with the cruises it just seemed as something that cut too much into their potential business. Like we would never see them offer a package to stay at a Universal for a week.;)

I do feel so bad for you. How disappointing to be saving up your points for something special like this to have the cruise go poof. :-( Hopefully the DCL speculation will happen and you will get that Alaskan cruise after all!

Well, I see that contract with Holland expiring because of a ship coming to live in CA. Alaska trips and Mexico trips here we come year round!
