No love for VGF

Easily. Decor looks like an upscale retirement center

Lol!

Having stayed there for a few nights, I didn't quite get that feel. I stayed in a lakeview studio. I had a studio on the corner and the view was pretty nice! Fireworks over the tippy top of the castle, all the way to the Poly.

It felt nicely luxurious.

My only criticism would be the kitchenette counter space was pretty tiny.

That said, point cost was pretty high.

I like the location better at Bay Lake Tower. I'll put up with the BLT décor to be walking distance to the MK. The kitchenette at BLT is much more spacious. So, now waiting to try the Poly. I'll probably love it and will stay at least once, but again the location of BLT can't be beat.

This is exactly what I said to my sister!

She has been looking to buy in, and said she didn't want the GFV bc it's to far from the monorail..
Then she said they wanted BLT.. Which I would think is further away/if not the same distance from a monorail!

So now they are holding off to see what poly is going to be like..

Unfortunately for her, probably very similar. GF/VGF and Poly are very large properties, and unless you have a room in the main building, it's going to be a little bit of a walk to the monorail.

My mom says what bothers her about BCV is that you have to walk from the outside to the main building. I said, 'mom, a lot of them are like that... BCV, BLT, VWL, OKW, etc."... and maybe even others I haven't stayed at yet. LOL You can't please everyone I guess.

I think there making a mistake with the monorail station. You walk outside from VGF to the monorail station. But, once you get there the stairwells are ALL closed off. Instead of walking up to the platform you have to enter the GF, walk through the lobby, take an elevator or staircase up to the second floor, then exit the resort to the monorail entrance. It is very frustrating to be standing outside right under the monorail and having the stirs closed off.

Is there a reason they are closed? Have they always been closed..

I do admit it would be nice if they would finish that walking path to MK.. But I'm not holding my breath on that EVER happening!

As for my sister holding out for poly... I do think it would be able to same to the monorail, but I think she was also looking at the TTC also being so close..

Haven't been on the boards as much and didn't realize the 1 BR only had one bath. We are staying one night there over spring break but glad to be transitioning over to Kidani and 2 bathrooms. Interesting that the recent DVC 1 BR are only being built with 1 bath. We were surprised when we took the Aulani tour of 1 BR to see the same thing. What's happening at the Poly DVC being built?

For me, this is the main advantage of staying at AKV - Jambo House. I truly prefer the entry through the main lobby and elevator ride up to the 5th floor over walks through a large resort, especially after a long day at the park.

I think the VGF villas are gorgeous, but I also think OKW is still the best, and I know folks that hate it. To each his own.

I think in the studios it might feel a tad tighter because of the HUGE & sumptuous bathrooms (split, no less!) at VGF. But it seems that would be a huge trade-off bonus (a little less room for a lot more bathroom). I know the OP is in a 1 bdrm, but I don't think they are even a bit smaller than SSR's living area or VWL. Hmmm, guess I need to crack out the square footage to check them all out for myself…..

Also, as to the length of the walkway to the GF & monorail. I don't think it is any longer than the walk from BLT to the Contemporary, or the walk down the SUPER long corridors from the Bus Stop at BWalk, or the walk down some of the halls at Kidani. No doubt one could get wet if it was really raining and/or windy with rain, but as said, same thing can happen on the sky bridge at BLT.

But dear OP, you have every right to love what you love. That's one thing I think is great about DVC. Each resort has it's own personality and pros/cons. What I really love, others may loathe, and vice versa. It's a really good thing we don't all love the same resort, or NONE of us could ever book! :goodvibes

There is a toilet, shower and vanity in one room and the bathtub and vanity in another.

The stairs are designated emergency platform exits, used only in emergencies. Knowing Disney, they want you to come inside the building and walk past the stores and shops on your way to the monorail station.

We didn't like VGF. It is very pretty but the walk to the monorail is annoying. We stayed for 1 night and were over it pretty quickly.

Heres a pic, so others can see what we talking about.. It's doesn't matter to us, but I can see how it could bug people..

hot tub and it location is a draw back.. (I wonder if they will be fixing this) probably not..
However having the kiddie area so close is a plus to us at this time!

I would never walk to the front of the resort to access the monorail, go through the side entrance facing the pool and the villas, and the stairs are right there and walk up and over to the monorail. It really is no further or no more hassle than any other place.

As far as I know there is no resort without a walk from your room to transportation. It just seems some don't mind the walk at certain locations.

Yep. The gift shop is on your left as you walk to the monorail entrance.

It really is quite nice to stay in the CR and just take the elevator down and then escalator up to the monorail. At GF we only stayed in an outer building but I imagine it to be as nice if you stay in the main building. But every other resort does have some walk otherwise. Personally I really like VWL and it's location to the bus stop - very close. At VGF I don't think it's a bad walk at all to the Monorail. I looked at those outside stairs more than once though. Too bad they come out to the actual platform instead of behind the gates. And the buses and the boats are further than the monorail.

I too wish those emergency stairs were open to walk up - it would be quicker/easier/drier if it was raining and wanted to walk under the walkway.

But we cut through the pool and entered the doors by the steps - it was definitely quicker. And less walking than walking from BLT to Mk.

One thing that I am curious about, I always see mentions of hot tub, and disappointment with location or only 1 etc... But for the most part I don't see a high number of people using them. Of course if there were more maybe they would be used more. Just doesn't seem cost effective, since only a few can take advantage of in resorts that could have a 1000 plus guests. I have used at times but not a big fan of sharing others germs in the petri dish of a hot tub, or people in there have taken it over for the night as if its their personal hot tub in their backyard.
