No longer offering dining plan to DVC res?

I just rented points through a DVC owner and when they talked to MS about adding the DDP to our reservation were told they were no longer offering the dining plan until the end of Sept 2010 because they are making changes. Has anyone else heard this or is this a matter of talking to another CM?

Thanks :)

I just went into the DVC Member website and still no mention of this limitation.

That's a big surprise . Hopefully they will get it straightened out sooner.

Is your reservation in 2011? Of so, the dining plan for 2011 has not yet been released, but probably expected later in the year.

I just made a reservations for October today and added the DDP. They said it was the same as always, I pay in full at check in.

Ahhh...that would be it. Thanks :)

Usually we schedule same year vacations, this is the first time we've done it for the following year so we usually don't run into this

I added DDP to a reservation today for Dec 2010. So far paid for at check in.

word is that the changes will include requiring payment for DDP at time of request, rather than check-in.
that might make it difficult to add the plan for renters (as they would have to pay that big chunka change to the owner; giving more money to a stranger = more nervous renters)

Payment in advance will be an available option through Member Services. The member and their guests may still opt to pay at check in.

There's currently a LOT of conflicting information out as to whether or not any option to pay at check-in will be retained.

Actually, some wording has been changed since i last looked at it:

Members will pay for their Disney Dining Plan through Member Services when booking their reservation. Members who don't wish to pay when booking their reservation will have the option of adding the Disney Dining Plan to their reservation as many as 48 hours prior to arrival and paying for the plan just prior to the start of their vacation.

Personally, this won't affect me because I don't find the dining plan a good value. I view it the same as UPSIZING at fast food restaurants. A way to sell you more for a bit less. I don't NEED "the more".

I totally agree about the dining plan! Never again for us. Frankly, I would think paying ahead would be a good option for those who like having the DDP.

I've never used the dining plan, I just couldn't make the figures work, even when tips and appetizers were included. And we normally have a Table Service meal daily.

That doesn't bode well for renters, though. What a PITB to collect money in advance for the DDP too.

You should be able to do a 3-way call, and the renter could give their CC info. If I rented out my points, and had to be responsible for handling the DDP finances, I simply would not allow my renter to add the DDP.

I suspect that if "pay in advance" does indeed become the order of the day, that it will be in part to make renting more difficult. Disney doesn't seem to be interested in making it any easier, and the ease of adding the DDP to a DVC reservation for the renter keeps DVC rentals competitive with Disney hotels.

We used the quick dining plan during spring break last year and plan on using it again when we go in June. It seems a bit pricey at first since our kids are older, but we used to spend alot more on food before than we do with the plan now.

I too noticed the new wording on the website. I immediately put on my English teacher hat, and it seems to me that there is an option now between prebooking/prepaying and 48hours booking/paying.

That's at least better than having to pre-pay it all. We aren't doing the DP any longer as we love TIW, but for those who do, hopefully, it will become more clear as to what exactly is going to happen with the DP in the near future.

Tiger :)

Yeah, I don't do the plan either. Without it I have the option to spend less.

Still not sure if what they REALLY mean to say is "you must pay for the dining plan when you add it, BUT you have until up to 48 hours before arrival to add it, so you could pay for it as little as 48 hours before arrival." If that's what they mean they ought to say it.

That is how I interpret what is posted. That it will be paid for when it is added so those that don't want to pay early can delay the payment by waiting to add it to the reservation 48 hours prior to leaving.

I just hope that when I go to pay, they will be set up to take my Disney Reward Dollars. As long as they will take those, then I am okay paying a few days prior to check in (we won't ever add prior to that, just in case who is going changes).

One would just need to collect the payment for the DP prior to adding it. Not a big issue but it likely would put a few off on both sides of the isle. I'll be mildly surprised if the option to pay on check in goes totally away.
