No longer feeling so bad about not staying onsite...

OP here....

And the biggest perk of all....MMs every day they are offered.

I have the 5 for 3 day ticket with 1 MM. I am staying onsite, so can I utilize more than 1 MM? Do I understand this correctly? Should I be getting excited? Someone please clarify this!!!

OK! Get excited then! If you are staying on-site you can go into every MM that is offered during your stay! It's an unwritten perk! :thumbsup2

I always look into staying 'onsite', too, and then after pricing it, I just can't justify it! I'd just rather spend my money on FOOD and FUN STUFF!

You only go back to the hotel to sleep, so as long as its clean I'm good. As soon as we're up and dressed, we're outta there and back at DL! So to me, its like eh, $50 a night over $300? Yes, please!

If the DLH and PP were actually "onsite", it might change my mind, but there are good neighbor hotels that are actually closer to the DL entrance, so it just doesn't seem worth it. The rooms aren't even that nice or different. (at least as they were, the new DLH rooms sound neat with the light pictures, etc)

GCH is another story...I'd love to stay there sometime, maybe just my DH and I, but its still so pricey!!! Maybe when we become rich, lol. :wizard:

Ariel224, sorry I wasn't trying to say that you are ruining The Disney experience by not staying at the DLH. I was just pointing out the differences in the 2 scenarios. If it comes down to choosing between DLH and Disneyland, by all means stay off site! In fact, the Anaheim Hilton used to be our "go to" hotel up until a few years ago when we were finally able to afford to stay on-site.

On another note, I don't know how you can find that story funny... To me it was only 2 things; sad and infuriating! I felt so sad for the girls and at the same time I just wanted to smack their mother! But that's just me.... :rolleyes1

I don't think I ever once said that I was seriously trying to decide between staying on site and going to the parks. :confused3 I had an absurd thought go through my head about not being able to afford to go to the parks if we ever stayed on site.....absurd because who in their right minds would do something like that, right? Then a couple of days later I hear a story about someone who actually lived that scenario. I was amused by the timing as it related to my own life.

I also acknowledged that the girls' overall situation was very sad. I lived a childhood sort of like that and sometimes it's one of those deals where you're in a weird situation, but can say, "Someday we'll look back on this and laugh," because you realize that it is so bizarre. While the overall theme of the story is tragic, the author uses comic relief DETAILS that I found funny, and I believe she used them to be entertaining.....for example: having to leave a popcorn trail when walking the dog, not driving the 15 minute trip home to retrieve a forgotten item so they could feel like they were more on vacation, and the irony of having Senior Prom at the DLH and "blowing her cover" by giving her friend step by step directions to the restroom without thinking about it. It's comic irony, which is commonly featured on This American Life. I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one. :hippie:

To the OP - thank you for sharing that! I thought is was funny and very well done. There was a point I almost wanted to cry too, trying to imagine how they must have felt. The music they played just jived really well with the story and totally invoked feelings too early in the morning for me...I'm still trying to wake up!

I have never stayed onsite - and wish I could. BUT who cares....for me it is all about sharing it with my loved ones...whether it is Disneyland, Disneyland Hotel, another hotel, or the park, or the beach, or anything else....you see to me...THAT is what makes it special....Disney is just the enhancement.

I'm so thankful we get to go to DL this year. My mom will be treating our family...and I'm so blessed because of it...these last 4 years have been very eventful/stressful/difficult....and we kept dreaming of being able to go to Disney...and it will finally come true!
