So, we were going to meet up with my brother in law and his wife while in Disney and we booked the YC Steakhouse and we are on the Premium Package, are we permitted to use our credits to pay for non Disney dining plan guests at Signature Restaurants???

There has been no official announcement from Disney yet. You'll have to ask when you get there.

There's been no official announcement, and the rumor began as "you can redeem more credits than people on your reservation." That doesn't necessarily mean you can use the credits to pay for someone else; just that you could order two meals for yourself. There's a lot of interpretation and conjecture at that point. Nobody can answer your question with any certainty yet.

All of the information I have seen indicates that you can use credits to pay for others in your dining party that are not on the dining plan. I am not sure where your information is coming from about just using more credits. I understand there has not been an official announcement, but all the information indicates you can extend the plan to others outside your reservation.

Why wouldn'tyou be able to use the credits that you have purchased for someone else? If you have enough credits to cover someone else you are more likely to need to pay OOP for other meals.

All of these articles seem to be based on one original article published with some very basic information, and each one since then has made small inferences which have led to larger conclusions such as this idea that you'll be able to redeem credits for people not on the plan.

The official Dining Plan document still says "You may not rdeem meals or snacks for any Guests who are not on your Disney Dining Plan." That's their own emphasis. The original report stated only that you'd be able to redeem more credits than people, but made no reference to redeeming for people who are not on your plan.

Will the servers "know" how many people the dining plan is purchased for, or juts the number of credits being asked to be used?
Im trying to think if how when we use the DP, and they ask if were on the DP, we say yes and she/he just takes 4 credits or whatever the credit price is. I wonder if they wold even know?

I'm pretty sure that you could have redeemed more meals than people before since you could have used the credits anyway you liked. As in, if i wish to order 4 meals for my family of 3 i could. Since disney says you can use them however you like. I doubt any cm would have stopped me in the past. Possibly one meal could of been put on a seperate bill. If the cm saw that we are only 3 but ordering 4 meals. So I think it is safe to assume that the "CHANGE" is that we can now use it to simply pay for the table.

But if you don't use those credits to cover someone else, you're very likely to have some credits left at the end of your stay (like so many guests do)
So Disney gets the money for nothing;

If you're allowed to purchase a meal for someone else, you're more likely to use up all of your credits, without any guarantee that you'll pay for additional meals OOP (you might choose to go eat offsite instead)

All of the proposed changes to the DDP are making me happy. Especially putting caramel apples and funnel cakes on the plan :mickeybar

In specific relation to this thread, wasn't it relatively easy to do this in the past anyway? We always have QS credits at the end of every vacation, so we like to go to our resort's QS location and buy breakfast for a couple/family on our check out morning if we have enough.

Your MB tells them the breakdown of your plan. If you have 4 adults on the plan, it tells them you have 4 adults. If you have 2 adults, 2 children, it tells them that.

My sister's family was on the dining plan when we were there last June. At every meal, they scanned her band at the beginning of the meal. I assume they were verifying the number/type of people on the plan so they knew how to split up the check. They scanned again at the end of the meal for "payment."

I don't think funnel cakes are a new add. We've gotten them as snacks before.

Funnel cakes aren't the add; but now you'll be able to get the toppings included (if the changes are accurate).
