If you have a food budget, it can be a challenge to stay within the budget and not break the bank. However, there are several ways to minimize food expenses at WDW.
Eat breakfast in your room--milk, cereal, fruit, bagels, pastries are all easy to keep on hand
Have your main meal of the day as a late lunch. At sit downs, lunch is usually cheaper.
Be smart if dining at a counter service--if you have younger kids, meals are easily split to feed two.
Carry snacks with you (granola/energy bars/fruit leather/apples all travel decently)
I'd rather do any of the above than waste valuable touring time going outside the park
