I just read this and I am so upset. We're going back this Sept and I was really wanting this again. Our little ones LOVED it and was a good reason we headed back this time of year.
Anyone have a theory of why?

I don't know, but we are so bummed!! We loved it last year and couldn't wait to experience it again. :sad1:

maybe they will have it but haven't announced it yet....here's hoping for you.:)

No. It is anounced as being canceled, as is the Sounds like Summer concerts.:sad2:

Do you know of new and improved things coming along to offset these losses?

In November, I was talking to a security man while I was touring a resort to take pictures. I had asked him about when the rest of the Christmas decorations would be going up, since the big tree wasn't up yet in the lobby. He just struck up general conversation about all things Disney, and he said that over the next three years, the plans were on the table to cut many, many things. He said it would be done in little snips here and there, but that by the time the three year plan was finished, there would be a significant difference with many losses.

He had been there for almost twenty years, and loved Disney, but he said the future plans that he had seen were disappointing a lot of longtime people. He said the almighty dollar at the top was going to ruin the magic. He didn't say it in a bitter way, but rather in a very matter-of-fact and even sad way. He probably shouldn't even have said all of that to a guest, but he genuinely seemed disappointed that he couldn't give me better news about the future of Disney.

My daughter and son-in-law had planned to buy into DVC this summer, but after that information, they're putting that on hold for a while. They want to see how much things change first before they sink that much money into anything.

We are Disney crazy here in this house, so it was disheartening to hear all of that. I left feeling it was true, yet hoping that what he considered noticeable snips would not really be as noticeable to guests. Every time I have heard of another cut since that conversation, however, I think about him.

I wonder if we wrote all of this down, and then looked back at the list in three years, how much would really be lost? I hope the cuts of the three year plan don't ruin the magic, and I hope there are some additions along the way to offset the cuts. The way he talked, Disney was going to end up no different from any other amusement park, and I will be sad if that holds true. Disney is my 'heaven on earth', and I can't see myself losing the feeling I have when I am there, but when I hear of new cuts, I do think my happy place is taking a bit of a beating right now.

I'm curious - does Disney share all of its plans (years of it) with all of the CMs? How would a security person know what WDW is going to do for the next 3 years?

I truly have no idea, and I am just telling you what he told me. I do know that in my job, we are told of many things that will be happening 3-5 years in the future, so I guess it is possible.

I hope it is not true, of course. I'm nuts about Disney, and I am hard-pressed to ever say anything negative about any aspect of it. I guess he just planted this seed of wonder in my mind, and now every time I hear of a cut, I hope that it is not heading that way.

My hope is that for every cut they make, they are also adding and improving something else. As a security person, I expect he could be in on some of the upcoming changes, but I don't know to what extent. All I know is that he seemed very sincere and a little sad about it. I hope, for all of us, that his fears/concerns won't play out to be as bad as they sound.

OP, I am sorry if this thread gets messed up by my comment. I am about one of the most non-controversial people you could meet, so I did not intend for it to get that way. Your comment, along with Joanna's about the summer concerts and posts about foods that were being deleted from menus, etc, just caused me to wonder out loud, and that was probably a mistake.

I know that it would take a multitude of cuts for Disney to not be a happy place for me and my family, so as far as I can see, I'll be enjoying it with or without cuts, most likely. I also know that CMs like Joanna and others I have seen on the Disboards that truly have the love for Disney in them will do their best to keep the magic alive in every way possible. Unfortunately, I have seen institutions founded on one principle that have made changes along the way, turning out to be nowhere near the vision of the original goal setters. I hope that that will not happen with Disney. Again, I apologize if my comments turn this ugly in any way.

Just logged in and noticed Little Ones Travel time ending and am sad to see it go. We are going back in Sept and were looking forward to that one hour of character play in Fantasy land. Fortunately, Sept is still a very slow period so it is still a great time to travel with little ones even if it isnt designated as their special time. DD loved playing duck duck goose with goofy and donald last time we did Little Ones Travel time, but she doesnt remember it so she wont be disappointed to not be able to do it again. I will always have fond memories of it though.....and fotunately, pictures too.

Employees of a company often hear rumors about future plans. I think this happens in every industry. How much of it is true remains to be seen, but in this ecomony, a sucessful company may have to cut back in order to remain profitable.

Maybe because they are possibly adding more MNSSHP dates and starting it earlier this year?...I am so bummed too, DD would have really enjoyed it::sad1:

Thats too bad, it seems like an odd thing to cut if they are saving money. We wanted to check it out last year with DD but forgot, she was on the older end of it anyway but too bad for the smaller kids.

As with anything else, I would write Disney expressing your displeasure and why it was important to you. It might or might not change things but I feel its important to make your voice heard in any case.

There is another post about this that is claiming that the announcement of it being cancelled is not accurate and that CMs are reporting that they have not heard of it being cancelled. So maybe there is still hope???
