No Lie Disney Dream Review

As far as I know, there is not actually any "fine gray line". Smoking IS allowed on your balcony. Your neighbour may complain, but DCL will not do anything to prevent you from continuing to smoke. Most posts seem to suggest that parties try to work something else, but there is nothing to prevent someone from spending all day smoking on their balcony, should they so choose.

While I don't smoke, and would be very very considerate to those around me if I did, it's good to see that Disney handles this in a reasonable manner.

Thanks for the review! However, I have to correct one thing that you said:

As a police officer, I can tell you that it is NOT illegal to bring your underage child or spouse into a bar. I see it all the time, and there are no laws being broken.

It is illegal in NC for a child under 18 to be sitting at a bar, or entering into a bar only establishment. The establishment can lose their liquor license for such behavior, along with large fines. A restaurant like applebees, tgi fridays is not allowed to have a child under 18 sitting at the "actual bar" they are allowed to sit in bar side booths or table tops adjacent to the bar.

The OP gave his opinion which may or may not agree with yours. no one person is right or wrong but we should respect each other's differences of opinion. Be polite and no snarky remarks. If someone want to make their own point do in a non snarky or rude way.

OP...the reason they ask to see your ID and KTTW card when reboarding at CC is that many outside vendors come to CC from other islands for the day. Whose to say that someone could not have slipped in with the returning guests and tried to get on the ship.....checking ID's and KTTW cards is perfectly normal, even on CC.

MJ

I think any snark the OP might be on the receiving end of stems from this remark

And parents... You should really think about what your alcohol issues do to your kids.

IMO, that sounded VERY judgmental and self righteous. I am just happy to see that the 'snark' you are referring to is at least factious and not hostile given the OP's implication.

Next, Animators Palate is very nice, but the show is very distracting. Having people staring past you while they are trying to watch the screens can be very annoying.

Is this the same show that's on the Wonder or is it different? On my cruise back in December, everyone seemed to be craning their necks to view the screens, trying to see the different images.

At the Bahamas I can understand taking identification with you when leaving the ship. What i don't understand is that when you initially check in at the port your photo is taken, and attached to the computer system so that they can see your photo at any point. When you get off at Castaway Cay you are told to bring your id, and keycard. Why is this? Is my photo going to change that much while on your island? Not very brilliant.

I would think that by monitoring debarkation and embarkation, they know who has gotten off the ship and whether or not they've returned. Once everyone is back on board, they don't have to wait and wonder if they've got everyone. And, if someone's missing, they know just who it is.

Liquor laws are established by states and in some cases counties (depending upon where you live). Having lived in 10 different states and spent time in about 20 more, I can tell you that except for a drinking age of 21 (which has only been universal in the US since the late 80s), there is nothing universal about what is legal or illegal - even the limits for drunk driving, what constitutes public drunkeness, how old you have to be to sell it, when and where liquor is sold, etc, vary greatly. And then you have a few counties that are "dry" counties which means that there is another entire set of laws pertaining to buying/drinking alcohol.

This is the fun of travel - realizing that how things are done where you live is not necessarily the way it is done everywhere - even in other parts of the US!!:)

My wife and I personally watched a broken wine glass sit on the side of one of the bars as multiple workers passed it by. I believe it took at least an hour before it was taken away. This was a safety issue waiting for a little child to come by.

Did the workers ignore the broken glass even after you and your wife brought it to their attention?

They scan your KTTW card as you get off and on at each port - even Castaway Cay. That is the only way of really tracking if someone has gotten on or off the ship.

Being a blogger I see more than a good percentage of other bloggers posting "excellent" reviews which is why bloggers are legally bound to scrutiny, and most don't follow that either. Most that receive things to review do lie. I have worked with hundreds of companies, and my reviews arfe dead on. In regards to smoking/alcohol... In NJ kids cannot sit at bars where tables are present. At waves many parents allowed their kids to sit there. Smoking is what I would like my kid to do rather than drink if she ever does either. Alcohol is PROVEN to be a killer. Smoking is attributed to cancer, but nothing solid has ever been proven in all reality. Everything I write is fact. Disney has received many complaints about the pools. 4000 people and the pools are smaller than the Magic or the Wonder.
I spoke to many people to see their response and everyone said I was pretty darn close to the bullseye on my thoughts.
Here...in case anyone is upset about the SUGAR COATING statement... A real large amount of people have given false opinions about certain aspects of the ship. Maybe they didn't review things as thoroughly to give their impressions. If you are a travel agent then I say no more.

MJ

I didn't post my reply as I was reviewing it when I saw your post, but still wanted to add that the OP posted more than an opinion when dismissing others as "blind" and their reviews as "lies" and "sugar-coated". It's funny that you used the work 'snarky' as that was my first comment regarding the OPs post.

Regards,
Glenn

Btw... I don't think that kids should be subject to the amount of alcohol they are. Impression is vital to our kids. Disney will never do anything about the alcohol because it is FREE money to them.

They have drastically cut the amount of smoking areas down to 1 for the most part and a second from 6 to 6. Deck 4 was cut due to joggers. There are things that are just unethical to do. Children immitate what they see. Parents that have their children handle alcohol/cigarettes are attrocious in my opinion. My daughter will make her own choices when she is of age.

Let's hope she doesn't have the nerve to pick up a glass of champagne on her wedding day. :rolleyes1

IMO, the OP has taken a review of the ship and turned it into a platform for less drinking/more smoking. Maybe he would have had a better time if he could have filled his lungs with smoke more often on the cruise?

Personally, if I'm sitting 10 feet away from someone enjoying a beverage, it doesn't affect the quality of my cruise. If someone is smoking 10 feet away from me, it causes my eyes to water and nose get stuffy....same with my children.

I'm curious if perhaps the OP is a doctor? He seems to know a lot more than the general public about the effects of alcohol and smoking. :confused3

This review is completely unbiased, and we were travelling on our expense. Hope this review is helpful for you in the future.

Elevators seem to take quite some time. If you only need to move one or two floors, then I suggest walking stairs.

1. Everyone has some kind of bias. Yours may not be the same as someone who is getting paid by Disney to write a review but trust me, there is some kind of bias in all of us.

2. The elevators on the Magic last October were a nightmare. My mother is in a wheelchair and there were many nights we waited, and waited and waited for elevators. I was recently on the Carnival Dream and elevators had long waits there was well. I think it's more of a "cruise ship" issue than a "Disney Dream" issue.

3. While Castaway Cay is a "Disney" island, it is not an American Island - it is part of the Bahamas. It is a foreign port and therefore you need to bring your ID with you.

I'm a little confused. What is a "false opinion"? By the very nature of the definition "opinion", is there such a thing? Or are you further stating an opinion that you believe others are actually lying about their opinions for some reason? I'm genuinely curious.

It certainly sounds like you are full of yourself and that you are trying to get everyone to think that you are better than you really are.

As for smoking, yes it is attributed to cancer, and if you look here: http://www.your-cancer-prevention-guide.com/causes-of-lung-cancer.html "According to NCI, smoking those cigarettes causes 87% of cases of tumor in the lungs. " And "Tobacco contains over 60 carcinogenic chemicals like tar, benzene, arsenic and lead to name a few."

And, with regard to second hand smoke, "Exposure to effects of second hand smoking increases risk for diseases and cancer in the lungs by 24% among nonsmokers. The lungs of children and the elderly are the most vulnerable."

If you are looking for direct cause of death being attributed to something like someone getting drunk and wrapping their car around a tree, I will give you that I don't have that type of data for smoking. That said, I could produce, with minimal effort, that type of data for baseball, gymnastics, crossing the street and bathing. Are you really telling us that you would prefer your child to smoke a cigarette than take a bath just because of a direct correlation versus indirect?

As for fact, you may be correct about the pools. However, your report is based on your OPINION and that alone. You were not on the prior cruises when all was wonderful or screwed up - you are basing your report on what YOU are seeing and experiencing on leg one of your trip.

I think the OP is referring to paid bloggers. Someone may come here, cruisecritic, etc and give their "opinion" but they are really being paid to sugar coat something. :confused3

Not only that but that everyone else is lacks integrity and will sell themselves and their 'false opinions' to the highest bidder. Their judgment is not clouded by cigarette smoke but by a haze of alcohol:confused3.
