No lawsuit

I said a couple of other places I think this is a very classy move by the parents, and a true testament to wonderful memories of their departed son, hoping his legacy lives on through helping others with his foundation. I also said I truly hope they find comfort soon, and send them virtual hugs.

Nor should there have been. While I do think the signage could have been clearer I don't think there was any negligence on anyone's part in this whole ordeal. Not the parents and not Disney. I hate the trend of suing every time something bad happens. This was just an act of nature. Sad and unfortunate but an act of nature.

While I do agree with you I do hope that Disney made a huge contribution to their foundation.

Very classy. Disney dodged a bullet.

I believe Disney has settled this out of court by making a hefty donation to the family's foundation to honor their son. The foundation has raised 4.7 million dollars. I think Disney donated a huge chunk of that. If none of that is disneys contribution, then I think a donation was made privately to the foundation.

Agreed, and still think the end result of it is a classy resolution, whatever the process was.

This was a horrible tragedy and no amount of money will bring that child back, nor comfort the parents. I believe that Disney settled with them in some manner, and I see nothing wrong with that. I wish the family peace. I was hoping that the parents would not sue, because I think it would cause them more heart ache and just make some lawyer richer.

I believe if the same horrible thing happened in some no name canal, or lake somewhere else in Florida, we would have heard very little about it, and there would be nobody to sue.

I'll repost here what I said on facebook this morning:

It's the right decision. What would a lawsuit accomplish? At the end of the day, there would still be alligators on property and the exact same risk would still exist, with or without new signs. We'll never know the details of whatever settlement Disney and the family agreed to, nor should we. As long as the family is satisfied with how it was handled, that's all that matters.

While I can't put myself in the parents' shoes entirely, I think this was the best decision for them. A lawsuit would have dragged on for years and just kept everything raw for them. That's my take on a personal level.

On a broader level, I have to agree because I would think the point of a lawsuit in this case would be to keep it from happening again. Since Disney is already taking those steps, a lawsuit wouldn't serve a purpose...if that makes sense.

I really hope thath Disney didn't donate anything to this charity even if it was to avoid a law suit. How can anyone be sure thath these people are actually going to use the money form it for what they say they are. You should check out every charity thath you donate to before giving them anything as you may not know what the money is going to, for example a "charity" her in Canada had it's tax status revoked after it was found out that the CEO of it had used money from it to buy comic books off of ebay and to fund his families trip to Walt Disney World.
