No Laundry On Vacation!

I really don't think it is a fair comparison at all. Having a washer and dryer in your unit is completely different than lugging your laundry down to a single laundry room that has two maybe three washers for over 700 rooms.

If I had a washer and dryer in my room, you are darn tootin I'm doing laundry and packing less. Unfortunately, I'm staying at the hotel that has the single laundry room for all its guests. If I can get a machine on one of the days I am not doing rope drop, I will do a load. If not, we are staying in a room full of stinky clothes.

Laundry is my get away. The wife and kids like to come back to the hotel in the afternoon and take it easy. Me, I head to the pool area (love POFQ). Throw the clothes in, head to the pool bar for a couple cold ones, rinse, dry, repeat as needed. Don't tell the misses this, but I've even been known to throw a few clean clothes in the dirty bag just to get down to the pool bar a day earlier pirate: Nice disney scenery around the pools as well. While I do about 50% of the laundry at home, it never hurts to act like your ignorant to folding while at disney. Usually loads of Dismoms wanting to help and talk about their trips. Usually get back to the room in a little under 2 hours and everybody is ready to head out! :rolleyes1

Not me! I actually prefer to do laundry for a couple of reasons.

1. We can carry less in our luggage this way (Also good for more room for souvies)

2. We can bring home clean clothes and don't have to worry about it when we return.

This upcoming trip we have the washer and dryer in our room, which makes it that much more convienent.

SAme here. I find doing laundry to be convienent.

My wife wants to do laundry on our upcoming 2-week WDW trip. I say pack enough underwear for 14 days, air out everything else if needed, and move on. Laundry is work, and there's no room for work at WDW. Spend time having fun and making family memories, not separating lights from darks. Who's with me???:cheer2:

I'm with you! I don't want to do laundry either! But 2 weeks is a LONG time especially if you have dirty kids :)

I bring lots of 'throw away' clothes. So any old socks, underwear, tshirts, or extremely stained items (think kids white shorts and tshirts that you can't donate). So anything that I couldn't (or just wouldn't) donate due to the wear and tear on an item or the 'intimates', I bring. So as we wear these items and they get dirty, we throw them away. Voila - no laundry AND more room in the suitcase for when we go home ;)

By now you're probably regretting starting this thread! :rotfl2: For me it's no cooking on vacation, but planning to do a couple loads of laundry. DH and I went to WDW in August a few years ago. It was so hot that we were covered in sweat as we walked into the parks, and I wanted to just keep wearing the 3 tank tops I brought over and over. We happened to be staying at a Vacation Club on that trip (a gift from DSIL & DBIL) and were SO HAPPY to have a washer and dryer. This time we will be staying at the Pop, but plan to use the laundry there part way through the trip. We've never used the public laundry at WDW, but hopefully it won't be too big of a deal to wash some things while we hang at the pool.

As a Mom/wife who typically hates laundry... I've found that I love doing laundry on vacation (as long as it's a trip DH is with us). On our mid-day break, I put on my swim suit and grab a book and tell my son and husband, "Woe is me... I must go do laundry now. No, go ahead... have fun without me, it's okay..."

And then I go shove all our laundry into one washer (no time for separating), find a chair by the pool, maybe get an adult beverage, and just SIT and READ in blessed silence for over an hour with no 'MOM. MAMA. MOMMY. MAMA. MOM. MOOOOOOOOM. MOMMY. MOM. MAMA. Watch this!' Once it's all out of the washer, toss it back in the laundry bag and done.

Actual time spent 'working': maybe 10 minutes - at most.
Actual time spent for just ME, me, me!: About 80 minutes. :)

My husband would agree with you. BUT he will also drop his dirty clothes in the floor and just leave them which makes me crazy. I almost always do at least one load of laundry on vacation and when going somewhere that has an on site "laundromat" I actually enjoy doing it. We have been in St Louis this whole summer and I have been going to the local laundromat. 2 hours there and I'm done for the week. The same amount of laundry at home (with my one washer and one dryer) takes me almost all day. I couldn't relax and enjoy myself on a vacation if there were dirty, smelly clothes all over the place and I for sure couldn't put dirty, smelly clothes on myself or my kids. For me, and this may be a tad OCD, but straightening the room(s) up and keeping laundry clean helps me relax and enjoy my stay.

I with you. I never want to do laundry on vacation. I pack extras of everything that we might need & then some. I can do laundry at home. Spending time doing laundry means less time for fun. The only one who complains is my DH when he sees all the luggage going in the car.:rotfl:

I think there's way more than 2 or 3 washers in the resort laundry room. All value resorts have 2 laundry rooms(coz there are more rooms) but they have a lot of machines there.

LOL! I like this plan :)

I always end up doing at least one round of laundry on vacation. It is one of the reasons I am looking forward to those 1 bedroom DVC units :)

Have you been to Disny World in the summer??? We go through two complete sets of clothing a day. There is no airing them out and wearing them again unless you want to get some serious "you stink" looks in the lines.:lmao: I say splash around in the pool and do some laundry. My husband has come around to my way of thinking on this subject.:thumbsup2

They look big but...
When we were there for 10 days in 8/08, the laundry rooms at Pop were always very crowded. I tried very early morning and late night and had trouble getting washers and dryers. So this time, 2 outfits per day per person and NO laundry on vacation for me. I'll just re-pack the suitcase with the smelly clothes and take it directly to the basement to wash when I get home.

For most vacations I pack one outfit per person per day and do laundry if we are gone for more than 7 days. For Disney in the summer, I expect to go through two complete changes of clothes per day and always plan to do laundry if we are there for more than 4 days. Make laundry a family event during pool time.

I thought this be would one of those 'yes-no' type threads, but now it has got me intrigued about the possibility of doing laundry.

My wife was going through the kids clothes for our trip next month. She was trying to decide how many outfits the kids would need. She picked out 12 outfits. 1 for each day and 2 spares in case of accidents.

Quite a bit to fit. For our 2007 Disney vacation , our 'big bag' was over 50 pounds. We knew this, and expected it. So we had the cash ready to pay for the overweight bag fee. I am thinking this is likely to reocurr. (Our 2008 trip we went down by train, and we did not have an overwright bag fee.)

This thread has me thinking we might want to consider packing less and doing laundry a day we are there. We have a day built in to do little but the pool, and some downtown disney. Maybe doing laundry that afternoon and evening is something to consider. Our dinner plans are for the restaurant at our hotel (CSR / Maya Grill), so it shouldn't be diffcult to get it done.

I rather like the idea of paicking only 6 or 7 outfits, washing them, and returning with only 3 or 4 days worth of dirty clothes. not 10 or 12.

I like the idea of bringing older or worn out undies(toss out each day) if one decides not to do any laundry while at Disney for more than a few days. My point is that it is a personal choice whether or not you want to do laundry in WDW. BUT, if you are going to be re-wearing your "stinky" shirts over and over again, please kindly reconsider. You might think the shirts smell fine, but to be honest, other around you might not share your sense of smell. :sad2:

:rotfl2: There is no way I am re-wearing a stinky shirt. The quick dry shorts can be washed with Woolite in the sink and dry overnight in the tub area. But make sure you use a soap, not just water. Or the stink will still be there.

We are bringing enough shorts and two pairs of shirts for each day. Quick dry shirts for the hottest part of the day and normal t-shirts for when we go back in the evening. Extra undergarments and socks. Socks just don't rinse or wash well in the sink.

For those of you who are not doing laundry  if you don't have to, I do have a system for keeping the smells down in the room.

Zip-lock bags.

These are great if you have kiddos to get ready too. I put each day's clothes; shirt, shorts, undergarments, socks, in the bag. Label the bag with the person's id. [I'm so intense I have them dated for the proper parks :rolleyes1 ]. I have an empty zip-lock to start the trip off for each person. The dirty clothes go back into a zip-lock at end of day/changing session. If I'm not rushed, I do presort as I'm zipping them up to throw back in the luggage.

If the laundry room isn't packed when I wake up on break days, I will do some socks to have extras. Otherwise, I'm just doing all when I come home. It won't be too bad. This time, my parents are house sitting and staying on for a while when we get back. :teeth: My Mom  doing laundry. :confused3 Don't know why I didn't inherit that gene. :rotfl:

This is exactly the kind of 'stinky' debate I was looking for when I started this thread. Each side has some great arguments and we're still trying to figure out an answer. I don't care how much laundry we would come back with. We both do it together as a team anyway. I'm intrigued by the idea of disposable underwear though :thumbsup2

anything over a week we do laundry.. sorry but just the way it is.. we are now DVC do it isn't a biggie for us to load the washer as we relax in the evening or in the morning as we are all getting ready; etc. When we were not DVC we'd put a load in the washer, jump into the pool, toss the stuff in the dryer return to pool then head up to the room with our dry and clean clothes to wear for the last half of our trip :) I am not lugging 2 weeks of clothing around with me. We have a rule, you pack it; you carry it.... I don't want to carry that much stuff :lmao:

jhaig, will you be driving or flying? I ask this because we find that driving our own vehicle give us the freedom to pack however much we want. We went on a 18 days trip to the Far East(China and Japan) 2 years ago. Let me tell you, we had the hardest time packing for that trip. Each of us utilized 2 space-bags for our carry-on. Thankfully, our guide was able to point us to local laundry shop and it was dirt cheap. Can't imagine how we could survive without the cleaning service!!:scared1:
