Friends of mine are going to Florida in February on a job and were planning to drive up to Orlando so their little Adopted Russian girl could make her first and probably only trip to WDW as a child (they don't have a lot of money and are not big Disney fans)...I decided to try to make the visit more magical and used a few points to give them a night at the VWL. I thought I had all the details on their plans, but, of course, I was talking to the husband, who, like most husbands, was clueless. It turns out they are locked into some other deal and can't use my points/accomodation. Now I am stuck with 29 points (AUG 2002-BWV points) because those points are going to expire about 2 weeks before I next need them. (I need them in Aug 2004) I could add a trip to use up the points, but then my problem is just spiraling out of control.

I realize this may get moved to the rent/trade board where I have made an initial effort without much success to rent the points, BUT what I propose is really different than a rent or trade, it is just a shuffle...and so many people are probably like me in that they don't really visit that board much...and the sort of deal I am proposing is appropriate to anyone, not just those who rent/trade---I think this would work...HERE is the scenario:

YOU already are planning on going and will be using at least 29 points (BWV) sometime before Aug 2004...you have a use year wherein the points you were going to use for that visit would still be good for use in Aug 2004 (they could be points you were going to borrow or have to bank or whatever....)
Let's swap--- I give you my Aug 2002 BWV points that can be used anytime from now until Aug 2004 (you would have to bank them by end of May of this year) and you transfer me 29 of your points that I can use in Aug 2004... everything comes out even- no lost points, no money changes hands, MS handles the whole thing with one phone call.

The only thing you lose is your transfer privelege for the year...obviously if that is important this is not for you...

email me at pks1687@bjc.org if you can help-

Thanks for reading...

Paul,

Unfortunately, I can't help you, but I wanted to make a few comments on your plan.

I give you my Aug 2002 BWV points that can be used anytime from now until Aug 2004 (you would have to bank them by end of May of this year) and you transfer me 29 of your points that I can use in Aug 2004... everything comes out even- no lost points, no money changes hands, MS handles the whole thing with one phone call.

I don't believe that you can transfer points in and out of your account in the same use year. It's one or the other.

Also, I don't think that transferred points are bankable, so the person you trade with would have to use the points by July 31, 2003.

Good luck.

Actually I would be transferring Aug 2002 points to be used anytime before Aug 2004 so long as they are banked by May 31 2003. (transferred points can be banked or borrowed--BUT banked and borrowed points cannot be transferred-that might be what you were thinking--transferred points retain their original restrictions, deadlines, flexibility, home resort, etc.)

They recently clarified the transfer rules and you are allowed one transfer in and one transfer out per year. as I understand it...but that could be gotten around too if I misunderstand it because we have three calendar years to work with- 2002 2003 2004.
