My DH said he heard this on the radio (KYW- Philadelphia) driving to work.

He asked me to check the 'net and I haven't found anything on it.

Anyone else worried about getting to WDW and not being able to get gas to drive home?

We're driving and leave in 11 days.

My concern for the victims of Katrina and the current and future gas situation has caused me to lose all but a shred of excitement for this upcoming trip!

I haven't seen any stations out of gas. I live in Greensboro. It was $2.99 yesterday morning and by 3:00 it was $3.29.

There was a "mad" rush in Charlotte the other day based on the rumors flying fast and furious so some stations did run out. However, I would not think that there are wide spread shortages...

I just heard on the news that there may be intermittent shortages, but they won't last long. Just be aware that you might run into it and stop earlier than you would normally!

It is hard to come by here in Asheville. More than half of the stations in town no longer have gas. If they do, they are limiting how much you can purchase. Average price here in town....$3.79!!!!

I drove from station to station looking yesterday and finally found one that had gas. I felt like I had won the lottery.

Services like UPS delivery, vans for the disabled and even garbage pickups have been cut back. It could be like this for the next week or so.

The "won't last long" part is certainly good news!

Yes, I know it will make the trip longer, but we will definitly be gassing up more frequently. Our Suburban has a 40 gal tank. So, it's good that it holds a lot of gas.....downside is that it is a "suburban" and only gets about 14mi/gal highway!

CarolA-- My parents are in Charlotte right now, visiting my brother. They are due to come home this Sun. I'm gonna call later and ask them about the gas situation.

I just want to say that it's so good to be able to come here (on the DIS) and talk about my fears and concerns, no matter how large or small, esp. those relating to our WDW trip. I feel like, at least I'm not alone and I'm always encouraged by the words of help and advice from everyone here. Thanks! :grouphug:

Here is an article from a local news station. I heard that 59 gas stations were out of gas this morning. I don't think it is as bad as what they were reporting on Wednesday. They said that it could be the middle of next week before the supply is back up.

City officials address citizen concerns about gas

07:09 PM EDT on Thursday, September 1, 2005

By JOHN ROMERO / 6NEWS

Mayor Pat McCrory has tried to calm the people of Charlotte’s gas concerns. Thursday, is day two of high prices -- low gas-- no gas -- and long lines at the pump, but City Hall keeps on preaching the same message: “stay calm.”

“The gas lines have been disrupted, the fuel has been disrupted, yet we are still getting fuel,”

It's bad, but it could be worse, according to McCrory.

Pipelines that were shut are now up and running in limited operation. Oil companies expect to be running at 50 percent of capacity by this weekend. The high prices could stick around, but so will the gas.

“We have received fuel, we'll continue to receive fuel,” said city spokesperson Julie Hill

The city is trying to conserve gas without canceling any services. The mayor asked drivers to do their part too.

“If we keep topping off and doing things that interfere with our gas supplies getting to those who need it most, then we're part of the problem, not the solution,” McCrory said.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg school officials announced their cut back plans Thursday also.

“All of our field trips are canceled until further notice,” said CMS spokesperson Latarzja Henry. “Any after-school activities that include bus trips will be canceled.

Henry went on to say that high school athletic activities will continue as planned. District officials plan to reevaluate their conservation measures on September 12.

Police are not cutting patrols, but officers are stretched thin while responding to 94 disturbance calls at local gas stations.

“We certainly have other emergency calls for service we could be responding to instead of those,” CMPD PIO Amanda Giannini said.

The bottom line from City Hall is; the shortage is real, but the crisis can be avoided if there aren't any more panic attacks.

I am in between Greensboro and Burlington and got gas yesterday at $2.99 but the manager was going out to raise the prices .20c more. I have seen only one place that was sold out and that was because they are straight off the highway and they sold out at $2.79 ...

We have gas here in Northwest NC. It's $3.39 for regular, but we have it. People are rushing and topping off their tanks which caused problems a day or two ago. But you should be able to find gas.

What kills me are these people who gun it when the light turns green, or fly down the highway! I can get there just as quickly as they do by slowly accelerating and going 55 mph. Stop wasting gas!!! I was at a light this morning and the Suburban beside me gunned it when the light turned green. About 5 seconds later I was right by her again - and I just slowly accelerated and was steady.

rant over...

I live on the coast and we don't have much gas left in town. I'm starting to think we should fly to Disney instead of drive. We leave in 3 weeks and I'm quite concerned about this!

Every station I passed on my way in to work today had gas-maybe not all pumps open, but they did have gas. Highest I saw for regular was $3.49 and lowest was $3.39. I would not have had any trouble filling up this morning had I needed to in Asheville or the Western border of the city. Things are looking up! Yesterday it was about 50/50 for the stations I saw. DMIL says Fayetteville never had problems to any great extent.

I see you're in Arden-A higher concentration of SUVs are in that area, so the larger tanks may be causing more of a problem over there than in downtown and the western side of Asheville. The topping off of tanks on Wednesday really caused our problems. Otherwise we would have been much better off.

I live in Cary which is just outside of Raleigh and we have gas. Yesterday it was 3.29. The news here has reported some outages but mostly at Mom & Pop stations.

My mom lives in Harrisburg which is just outside of Charlotte and she said alot of places were closed late Wed/early thursday but by last evening they were opening back up. The price around her was the same 3.29 which is odd since they are usually about 10cents cheaper than I am.

We're driving to South Carolina today to meet my in-laws who are New Orleans evacuees. We're taking 95 down from DC through VA and NC, and then probably taking 40 East in NC down to SC. Anyone know anything about these areas of NC? We plan to fill the tank in VA on the way down and then in SC before we leave so hopefully we won't need any gas in NC, but we'd rather know if we can even get any if we have to.

I am off of I-77, just North of Charlotte. I haven't been by the gas stations closer to the highway exit, but the ones a few miles in had gas this morning when I went by. The average rate I saw was $3.09. Hope this helps someone!! :flower:

We are about 45 miles east of Charlotte and haven't seen any stations in our area without gas. All stations seem to have the same 2.99 price for regular unleaded.

Petroleum Pipeline To Charlotte Restored To Full Capacity

POSTED: 7:47 am EDT September 2, 2005
UPDATED: 11:08 am EDT September 2, 2005

HOUSTON, TX -- Plantation Pipe Line Co. reported Friday that electricity has been restored to its pump station in Collins, Miss.

Power crews completed their work at approximately 10:45 p.m. CDT Thursday, giving Plantation the capability to operate at approximately 95 percent of its average daily throughput of about 620,000 barrels.

The company will resume 100 percent capacity when electricity is restored at two smaller pump stations.

Plantation has been transporting about 25 percent of its daily volumes since Wednesday, following successful efforts to bypass the Collins facility.

Assessment teams earlier confirmed that the Collins pump station, along with the rest of the Plantation system, suffered no damage as a result of Hurricane Katrina.

The Plantation Pipe Line system consists of 3,100 miles of pipelines that serve about 120 terminals and transport gasoline, diesel and jet fuel to major metropolitan areas in the southeastern U.S., including Birmingham, Ala., Atlanta, Ga., Charlotte, N.C., and the Washington, D.C. area.

Tempers Fueled By Gas Issues
Police in Charlotte said they received nine disturbance calls within a 24-hour period because of high gas prices.

AAA is concerned things will not get much better this weekend. The organization says the Labor Day weekend could put a larger strain on gas supplies.

As of Friday morning, 47 gas stations in Charlotte are out of fuel.

AAA encourages drivers to only fill up when they need gas instead of just topping off their tanks

Here in Charlotte most places do have gas, but in most cases it is the Premium or Super Premium that is available. Yesterday it was $3.49 for Super Premium. I was out earlier today but didn't pay attention to the prices so they may have went up.

Gas here in the Cary area went down some today. I know weird but its down between 5 and 10 cents depending on the station.

Hey, all you North Carolinians! Thanks for posting.

Looks like the "shortage" was isolated and caused by panic.
Spoke with my brother at 9am today and he also verified that.
(BTW- he lives just outside of Charlotte, in Monroe. Owns Quality Woodworking. So if you need custom furniture or kitchen cabinets, look him up!)

Funny thing is, I spoke to a friend who is vacationing in Myrtle Beach and she said that she also heard on the news that NC had "no gas". I guess some of the media must have been blowing it way out of proportion yesterday and very early this morning.
