No Games allowed! Make up your own to keep your kids amused

Sorry Twilight - my quote of you didn't quite work out - think I don't know what I'm doing.:guilty:

Anyway - your point is spot on - maybe if we all were more like this then these atrocities (and planned ones) wouldn't occur - Most of this nonsense is borne out of ignorance about each other - probably because we're all so busy cutting ourselves off from really knowing one another by using modern forms of communication (he says, having become a DISboard addict).

Ok off my soapbox now. To my main point..........

How about starting a good old fashioned sing song on the plane - standard disney favourites would be cool. ;) I would probably La La the Spectromagic theme, as I do this all the time anyway. (SAD!)

Great idea for a thread. Me and my DH (who are both big kids ourselves!) play many variations on the alphabet game - bands is a favourite one with us (though perhaps a bit grown up for kids), also films, disney characters, disney attractions, wrestlers, footballers, etc. I also usually talk Andy into a few games of thumb war but perhaps that might get a bit too violent/rowdy with kids!

Hugs to all flying, and especially those with little ones :grouphug:

We often do 'Which attraction at WDW am I on?' in the 20 question format - which would also work for any other topics you fancy trying even down to the traditional animal, mineral or vegetable!

If any of you are on the virgin flight vs027 on 17th September (11:15 flight) if you see a gibbering wreck at the end of the flight its me. No book for 9 hours!!!!!!!!! Its a bit like not being able to smoke for me.

Hey Paula

I cam sympathise with THAT one - an idea; why not use the time to write your own - they say we all have a book in us somewhere. It could always bea Disney based one - thats will definately take your mind off things!

DS and I like to play a category game. For example, a category is "Rides in the Magic Kingdom". We take turns naming things in the category. The first person who can't name one loses. The category that can keep us going for a lonnnnnnnnng time is "Characters in the Harry Potter books".

No ideas to share, just wanted to say that I really appreciate this thread!! I usually hang out on Transportation and posted a link to this to remind North American travellers that they still have it relatively 'good' compared to our UK friends...

This thread brings back good memories of many road trips in my youth!

Watching BBC News24 very late last night. Reporter at Heathrow with items on tables etc. You can't take your own books from home when you check in with your clear plasstic bag but you WILL be able to buy one once you've gone through security. They said this is because they will already have been able to check the stock has not been tampered with. Similarly, staff working in the shops will also have been checked. If it's a W H Smiths, or similar, they will also have children's books, small toys, playing cards etc. The guy did point out that you still would not be able to take liquids onto US bound planes, although could buy bottles of coke etc & take these on board for other destinations.

But I'll probably still be 'enjoying' a few rounds of thumb war with DS12 (who is far too good at it).

HTH

Ocky :smickey:

Some great games guys, I'm sure I'll find myself playing one or two of them with my teenage daughter ! Got to pass the time somehow.

We also like looking at people and guessing what they do for a living and what kind of personality they have, this can be really funny sometimes, you have to keep your voice down though :rotfl:

Oh, DH and I play this too. :thumbsup2 We can get really inventive about people, like the doddery old dears are usually romance novelists looking for young men to develop their research!, Men travelling alone are British secret agents (obviously) competing to be the next 007, and single people of opposite sex on the plane are probably past lovers who were destined to be together, but some terrible row made sure they would never speak again.

I think we need to get a life, don't you?! :rolleyes1

(Sorry if I have ever made up a story about any DISers without realising! )

!! :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I'm glad I'm not the only Nut, but what else can you do when you're trying to kill time? :rotfl:

I put this in the other thread, but I will put it here as well. On the avforums a member reported that his wife came back on a flight from Paris and reported this

Not sure if this was posted already (its a long thread) but my wife got back from Paris last night (eventually) and everyone with a laptop had to check 'em in - all nicked!!!! Her bag is missing still, which had a laptop (lots of confidential info on it) DVDs, MP3 player etc!

People were having check in little bags with keys, wallets etc. .....All gone!!!

people in CDG nicked the lot!!

They'll have to change the security measures as people are gonna stop flying if everything gets nicked, Business people need laptops but not the hassle!

It is good to increase security to stop terrorism but its up to the airport to make sure that the items are not stolen by baggage handlers. I mean they probably can't stop the occasional item but an entire flights worth of stuff this is just too much its going to stop people flying so the flights don't become pinch r us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

To balance this out my boss flew back from Birmingham to Belfast on Thursday morning. She had to check her laptop & keys etc... She was able to purchase lucozade and a magazine airside to bring on the plane. Everything she checked came through to luggage reclaim as normal.

I think that you will find that airports are acutly aware of what can happen and the publicity that it would generate.
I bet that more security is in place than you are aware of airside to counteract such "problems" :thumbsup2

Doesn't anyone play cards anymore???

I taught my daughters Go Fish and they love it. We got delayed in the air once for about an hour and they were a lifesaver.

Are crayons OK??
