No Flash Photography?!

An interesting observation from the 5/25 Magic...
Although there is always an announcement before the shows asking people to refrain from flash photography and videotaping, I've always seen lots of flashes and no action taken. But on our Western cruise, during Disney Dreams, members of the cruise staff were going around warning people with cameras before the show started (hubby was warned because he was holding his digital camera, even tho' he never uses a flash...we sit up front and the pictures come out fine without it).
Then, during the show, they went around and told people who were taking flash photos to stop (including the person behind us, which is how I knew what was going on). That was a total first for a Disney cruise! It's been a while since we've been on the Magic, but it's never happened on the Wonder.
Poor hubby was a little sad because he was forbidden from using his digital, even without the flash (he was told that it was due to the view screen being annoying ). But even with that restriction, it was nice to see the flash rule enforced. They only did it for Disney Dreams, not any of the other shows. I don't know whether this is a new policy or there was something special going on that day. Anyone else notice this on the Magic?

That is great!! On our trip there was so much flash photography from the person next to me that is was distracting me from the show.

By the way I took pictures too and did not use the flash and it came out great!!!

I really hated not being able to take pictures of Disney Dreams when we were on our first Magic cruise. It annoyed me that others felt the rules didn't pertain to them, and used flash anyway. I'm happy to know that pictures turn out fine if you sit up close to the stage, I will definitely keep that in mind for our upcoming Magic cruise in January. Are they strict with videotaping the show? I would love to be able to tape the whole show, but I realize it might be distracting to others. But maybe if I sat in an aisle seat with hubby next to me it wouldn't bother anyone and I would be able to tape it. Does anyone know if that would be a possibility?

I taped my copies of the shows before they placed the rule about no videotaping. That rule came along after the first year or two. Since then, I did tape portions of Millionaire, the variety shows (where they don't state the room in the Navigator, just the pre-recorded message before the show) and Cest Magical (now Morty). Mine doesn't have a screen, so they might not care about that.

Sitting in the back row of the first section, pictures do not come out.

We too videotaped the shows before they put on the restriction (it's interesting to see how Disney Dreams and Herc have changed, and we also have Ghost Ship). But they were definitely enforcing the "no video" rule on that cruise. I don't know if that's something they will continue doing in the future...it's the first time we've ever seen actual enforcement. I really liked the fact that we didn't have to spend the show being blinded. The person behind us had to be asked twice, but she eventually got the hint. The strange thing is, they didn't say a word to hubby about his digital camera screen until the very end of the show...and of course that's the shot he wanted most!
