No Fireworks?!?!

Truth to tell I can barely tolerate Space Mtn at MK because it is so, so far behind the one at DL. On our WDW trip in 2008 we actually skipped it entirely even with two full days at MK.

Before the SM refurb at DL (completed in July 2005 BTW after 2 1/2 years of being down) I was not a huge fan of SM at DL. What they did with this refurb was transform the ride into a much better experience. The ride itself (the rollercoaster part) is the same. But the experience is light years better ;).

Yes, the SM lines are as long at DL as at MK. But I always get a SM FP first thing in the morning and then sometimes a second one mid-day.

Do not miss it!

Are the tracks identical? I found a model of the Disneyland version on Google and it doesn't look the same. Does it have the two tracks? One of my co-workers says the Matterhorn Bobsleds are a closer match.

What's this I hear about no People-Mover? I should have started researching this trip sooner.

Wait.... I went in April of '05 on SM, and it was still open.

we often skip SM at WDW......it is disappointing compared to DL.
And yes ! 6 months is minimum for good trip planning research you slacker!

The People Mover has been gone for many many years. I'm not sure, but I am under the belief (or misguided) that DL is replacing it with something.

Actually they did replace it with something, the wonderful, fabulous, always breaking down, gone in like a year Rocket Rods. It was one of the biggest failures at DL. It was a huge bundle of issues, some of us never even got to ride it because it was always down.

The worst part is it not only took out People Mover (which I believe was closed down before that but track got riped out for RR), but also they moved the Astro Rockets to the front of TL instead of on top of Tommorowland Terrace. Which just looks silly, and probably makes them way less fun.

I would love to see the People Mover come back!

Oh, I loved the Rocket Rods. I was sad to see them go. Having the People Mover back would be cool though.

SM at DL only has one track. Your co-worker is right. Everything about SM at WDW reminded me of the Matterhorn which was a huge disappointment for us. It has similar cars where you ride one person in front of the other and it's a jerky ride that gives me headache. SM at DL is SO much better than the one at WDW.

Just checked the schedule and the fireworks are listed on the 31st at 9:25!!!

Yep...there it is. January 31st! And by that time we will be on our cruise. RATS!! But yes, we knew when we planned our trip that we would miss something at this time of year. I know we will have a great time anyway. But I still would have loved to have seen the fireworks over the castle. I grew up watching it on The Wonderful World of Disney and it IS Disney! Maybe next time! ;)

I think you are mis-remembering. ;) Space Mtn was due to re-open in Nov 2005. But the 50th anniversary was July 17, 2005, and DLR decided to pour huge resources to get Space up for July. They did get a soft opening late June/early July, and opened for good on July 15. We had a four day trip two weeks later. FWIW here is a link to a MousePlanet article in July 2005: http://www.mouseplanet.com/articles.php?art=dl050711xx#Rehabs

I know it's off topic but this is my thread so I'm going to ask.

How do you guys put all that stuff at the bottom of your posts and change the stuff under your name? As much as I love earning my ears I feel a little silly whenever I look over and see that. :scratchin

You are right. It was 2006 when I went.

And Chuck, all that can be edited under your User CP in the top left hand corner. Everything under the post is your signature, which you can edit there. And the 'Earning My Ears' can be changed under the custom member title.

Thanks. Now I have to decide what to put there. Decisions Decisions. :scratchin
