No fireplace for Santa

In our new house, we don't have a fireplace, but we do have a chimney for ventilation for the furnace.

So, what do I do about Santa? DD is 3, and last year in our old house we had a fireplace.

Where do you put your stockings? We don't have a mantel either.

I thought I saw a special "key" thing for Santa in a catalog, but it might have been a dream!

TIA!!!

I have seen that special key in a catalog. I don't recall which catalog but if I find it, I'll repost. I lived in a house without a fireplace when I was a child. My parents told me they left a door unlocked for Santa, and I believed....::yes::

You hang a key outside for Santa. We had one that was goldish and had santa on it. It hung with a red ribbon. Definitely a cute idea for those without a fireplace.

Santa is MAGICAL. He can get in through the smallest of openings. Don't necessarily need the chimney.

Although, I do remember, YEARS ago, seeing a Sesame St special where children were talking about Santa, and one little boy lived in an apartment, and he was convinced that

"Santa sneaks in with the relatives at Thanksgiving, and then hides in the Laundry til Christmas" :rotfl: That always just tickled my funny bone.

We don't have a fireplace either, and DS just knows that Santa can get in.

I grew up in a house with no fireplace. I don't remember questioning it but my mom said when I asked her, she simply said "It's Christmas magic". Maybe we were simple minded but it worked for me and my sister. :D

we didn't have a fireplace when we had our townhouse. I think the Santa Clause does a great job explaining how santa gets in, but it can be tough to figure out where on earth to hang the stockings. You could hang them on the bedroom doorknobs, which would be pretty cute and fun for you child. we had mantels from potterybarn that we hung them from in our living room. good luck!!!

I read somewhere too about "magical keys" You get some old antique looking key and put it on a keychain (that you and your child can make) and then you hang it by some ribbon outside next to your front door.

I had picked up a whole bunch of cool keys one time because I was going to make some and sell them at a craft fair. Never did get around to doing that.......:scratchin

Definitely watch the Santa Clause. And if that doesn't work for you, tell DD that YOU (mommy and daddy) will be going to the north pole to pick up her present from Santa because Santa is very busy and this year he asked mommy and daddy to be Santa's helper and pick up the toys so Santa can visit the kids in the hospital instead.

Thanks everyone!

It seems like I am worrying over nothing!

I think she would like The Santa Clause too.

The key on ebay was cool, but only for people in the UK.

We don't have a fireplace either. I bought a really cute stocking stand several years ago. I also bought a key that you hang outside the door. I got them both at a home party I went to where they were selling House of Lloyd/Christmas Around the World products. I tried to find a link, but apparently they are no longer in business.

I found this poem on the internet several years ago and actually came across it last night when I was looking though my Christmas notebook. The poem goes:

We don't have a chimney
For you to come in through,
And if you miss our house,
I don't know what I'll do.
Mom says you work magic
And can use just any key
We just have to put it
In a place that you can see.
So I'm placing this old key
Right beside our door.
I'll say my prayers,
Jump into bed and
I won't have to worry anymore.

My stocking stand is about 3-4 feet tall with a reindeer on top of it and has 4 hangers on each side for the stockings. It is sturdy enough that I have never had a problem with it standing up. I saw another stand not long ago that was really cute, but now I can't remember where.

Oops! Sorry, just tried my own link (not good at posting links) and it didn't work!

Just go to Orientaltrading.com and enter Santa Key in the search box and it will bring the keys up.

We did this for DD as we don't have a fireplace or mantel either. She is now 18yrs old and STILL hangs the key on her bedroom door!

Pewter Santa Key from Oriental Trading.

I bought one similar to this a couple of years ago at the Christmas Tree Shops for around $0.99. They had them near the registers. I saw them there last year, too.

We didn't have a fireplace growing up either. My parents also told us they left the front door open for Santa. I know my mom used to hang our stockings on our piano, before we got that I think we hung them on our bookcase that was in the living room.
I really like those Santa keys, they are so cute!

We used to hang our stockings from the hardware used to hold the curtain tiebacks.

No kids -- so I used to mess with our nephews brain. They spend Xmas with us. We heat our house with a pellet stove -- which is always running. So I used to ask him how Santa got in the house with the stove running. I always pointed out it was a good thing he was here at our house...because he didn't have a chimney. That always got him thinking. LOL
