I agree with above except when it comes to Alaska. The premium is still high. At least on DCL it is. My two Alaska cruises were in inside rooms. I refuse to pay thousands more for a balcony.

Alaska is like the great equalizer IMO with the cruise lines not being nearly as differentiated as they may be elsewhere. They all tend to be on the higher side of pricing there.

But from the standpoint of looking at lines that have more ships over the years with more balconies in greater numbers than in the past even with talking about Alaska it's not quite the same as it was prior to balconies not being quite as prevalent because there's less non-balcony rooms to begin with compared to years ago. There's less rooms available to even "upgrade" to a balcony if more and more rooms start with a balcony.

The older the ship is the less it can be used for comparison when asking about inside rooms vs balcony but your point about certain locations commanding more price variance with what rooms a particular ship has is for sure true.

Some, but not that many since it starts at about 600k. Yachts cost millions.

I'm kinda speaking about globally not just between the Caribbean and Alaska. It's the same with Antarctica as well as Greenland and Iceland. That's not even getting into Norway or the Arctic Circle. But in terms of popularity and accessibility of the colder destinations I mentioned Alaska is the most popular and the most accessible and many cruise lines go there so there's more to compare with. With that comes that there is less about the destination that can be differentiated for the cruise line other than looking at a particular glacier or stop that fewer lines go to. When that happens the ship's features (or pluses or whatever) can take on a more important role. An upgrade to a balcony to see the nature that is the main focus of the destination for a cruise line is going to make more sense to make it a more premium option.

When we were anchored at Cabo Denzel's yacht was anchored not far way. It had a helicopter on it. I'm sure it cost in the hundreds of millions.

The fantasy parked right next to Jeff Beso’s yacht in St Thomas. It was massive. And had several large “support yachts” that aren’t in the pic. This was January, 2024.
