No Day But Today- FINAL post on page 40!

What a great pre trip report. I was laughing at the little scraps of paper with figures all over them, that is totally me!
We are switching resorts for the first time this trip. It makes me feel better that you've done it before & are doing it again, and again, and again.....
We are staying 5 nights at Contemporary MK view then switching to Poly garden view concierge for an additional 5 nights. A first time for both resorts for us.
We are going January 24 thru February 3.
Can't wait to read more.

In the not too distant future
Next Sunday A.D.
There was a girl named Crystal
Not too different from you or me
She worked at Gizmonic Institute,
Just another face in a red jumpsuit,
She did a good job cleaning up the place, but her bosses didn’t like her so they shot her into space….

Wait. That’s not the right story at all! Let’s try again! (With apologies to MST3k fans.)

In the not too distant future
1/8/07 A.D.
There was a girl named Crystal
And hey, that girl is me!
She worked long hours saving up some cash
To fly to WDW and have a blast
It’s been almost a year since the last trip, you know,
It’s time to go back, so on with the show!

We’ll send her to the magic,
And the best resorts we can find,
She’ll explore the parks
And eat all the chocolate she can find

Now keep in mind Crystal can’t control where the magic begins or ends,
She’s just there to drink it in with the help of a few friends!

Trip Report Roll Call!

Crystal!

Katie!

Crocky!

And Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiitch!

If you’re wondering if she’ll eat and sleep
Or other science facts
Just repeat to yourself “It’s just a trip report,”
“I should really just relax!”

Crystal’s New Trip Report 3000!

(If you weren’t singing that along in your head to the MST3k theme song tune, I am not sure if we can be friends, but on YouTube you can see the actual theme song, so that you can be all edumacated!

haha! i LOVE it! so creative! i wish mst3k was still on!!! my favorite was 'final sacrifice' sooooo funny. :rotfl:

I've never stayed at the Contemporary, but I know you'll looooove the Polynesian! Switching resorts is so easy- just call bell services to pick up your bags, head off to a park for a few hours, and then go check in at your new resort. For me it feels like two separate vacations! Try to catch the torch lighting at the Polynesian if you get a chance! It involves a man in a loincloth spinning fire- I think that says it all! :thumbsup2

Oh yay! I was afraid nobody would get it. My personal favorite is a short called Last Clear Chance, about train safety. I may have to post a link to it while I'm gone, to keep y'all entertained! :teeth:

Woooohoo!

I just booked my flight on Hotwire- for just $189! That's the cheapest I've flown in *years*!

There are a few bad sides, such as:
-I don't get in to Orlando until almost 10pm. Since I book cheap flights, they usually either leave super early (think 5am), or don't get in to MCO until late, so I expected this. I do prefer the "get there super early!" thing, though!
-The flight times listed seem really long! 3 hours from Chicago to MCO? Seriously? It only took me a little more than that to get from Minneapolis to Cancun! I'm thinking 3 hours here seems a little long! (Hmm, I've had a layover in Chi-town before, I wonder if I mentioned the flight time in my trip report? I should look it up!)
-Given that I'm flying in January, and my layover is in Chicago, I'm a tiny bit worried about the weather. Everyone keep your fingers crossed for no snow!

The good, however:
-My layover is in Chicago- they have a very cool airport!
-My layovers both on the way there and back are both under an hour!
-My flight home doesn't leave until 3pm, which means I'll have a couple of hours that morning for a last trip to Epcot or something. AND I still get back home at a decent hour. Yay!

I'm excited just to have the flight booked! I usually spend weeks watching the flight prices, waiting for them to drop down to under $250! I'm amazed that I found one this cheap an entire month ahead of time! I did hesitate a little before I booked it- what if it gets even cheaper? Will I kick myself later?

At least I can book magical express now!

count me in as a fan! I was thrilled to see you've started your trippie!
I remember being a college student and scraping the $ together for trips to the world (usually while everyone else went to Daytona Beach!) Seeing you and Katie reminds me of those great times! Have a wonderful trip and enjoy yourself!

But i got a good deal too so its all good! You must be getting excited for your trip though, your going to disney NEXT month!!

Top 10 Things I’m Looking Forward To On This Trip:

1) Waking up at sunrise to watch the animals at AKL from my balcony, and getting some amazing sunrise photos of the Lodge.

You won't be disappointed with this one! We stayed at AKL twice and both times were wonderful. Watching the animals from your balcony is really amazing! Promise to take LOTS of pictures for us!!! :goodvibes

If it weren't for my deluxe resort addiction, scraping the money together would be so much easier! :teeth:

There's something about finally booking your flight that makes it all seem real!

Thanks! I may be up past the single digits of readers now! :thumbsup2

I'm DISing right now to avoid thinking about going to work today- yesterday was our busiest day so far all year, and involved me getting yelled at by a guest- ick! Here's hoping today goes better!

Ohhh, there will be pictures! :teeth: I need to practice some more with the new telephoto lens, but I think it will really help!

I also ordered the coolest tripod ever, called a Gorillapod, and I can't wait for it to get here! Its legs are made to wrap around things like the balcony rail, to hold your camera steady when you don't have a flat surface. I'm gonna be attaching that thing to anything that will stand still long enough!!!

Also, today marks just 30 days until the trip!!! After today, I have 2 days off work for my birthday, so I should be able to get a lot of the last minute planning stuff done then.

30 days! I will survive! (I hope!)

Happy Birthday!! :bday:

Yeeeeaaaahhhh! Another Crystal trip!
Since you are going to be a little more generous to yourself on the souvie shopping, I want you to pick up one of those wooden animal thingies in Epcot this time. You know you want one! ::yes::

Crystal-
You are such a great trip-report writer....your trip reports ALWAYS crack me up!!!!! :rotfl: :rotfl:
You will have a great time in January...it's my favorite time to go even though it's slightly chilly at night! WL is incredible...and I imagine that it would be really homey-feeling in the wintertime! :cool1:
I hope you have a great time at WDW and I look forward to reading some more of your hilarious trip-report! :lmao:

Looking forward to reading more! I, too, would love to hear more about the "solo" aspect of visiting WDW.

We are going to be in the world together. I'll keep an eye out for you, Stitch and Crocky!

Thanks so much for all of the Birthday wishes! I am now officially old! :teeth: The funniest Birthday present was the owner of the gas station I frequent buying me a frappuccino- you know you have a coffee addiction when the gas station people know what to get you as a present! :rotfl2:

Ready for an embarassing confession? I've started packing. (And may also be developing a smiley addiction, apparently!)

I should know better than to try to start packing already- I mean, I'm going to need some of this stuff in the next few weeks! I just can't resist, though!

I really am trying to keep the packing to a minimum; An important solo tip here: You're going to have to lug all of that luggage across airports at the least, and around some resorts if you're unlucky. Don't pack more than you can drag behind you from your car to the nice airline checkin people!

I am pretty proud of the tiny amount of hair stuff I've narrowed it down to:

hairstuff.jpg

I swiped a mini bottle of shampoo from the hotel I work at, rinsed it out (which takes forever!), and filled it with my conditioner of choice. I learned on my recent trip to Mexico that you can fit a LOT of shampoo or conditioner in one of these little bottles if you put your heart into it! You have to whack it against a table a lot to get the air bubbles out, though.

The funky looking greenish thing is the very last little bit of my favorite shampoo- it's a solid one sold by Lush, and I love it! One of my important errands on this trip is to hit the Lush store at the Orlando airport to restock! The solid shampoos are awesome for travel- they take up almost no space, and last forever! This tiny chunk should easily get me through the 10 day trip.

The little pink tube is some anti-frizzy stuff that came with some conditioner I bought, and the quarter is just in there for size comparison ;) Oh, marvel ye at the tiny size of my products!

(Just don't ask to see my camera bag.)

I picked up some new Disney princess band-aids- they're the best for poor blistered Disney toes! They stick on toes well, don't cause more blisters by rubbing against your skin, AND they have princesses on them! Score!

(Plus if you take them out of the box, they squish flat and take up almost no room! See?)

bandaids.jpg

You know you need to get away when you are posting pictures of band-aids on the internet. I'm just sayin'.

As if that weren't exciting enough (Nothing but thrills and chills in THIS trip report!), I picked up these blister doo-dads, too!

blister.jpg

I saw them recommended on the DIS by someone who does ballet, so I have faith in them!

Now watch, I won't get a single blister on this trip, and all of this shopping will be in vain!

In other exciting planning news, I got very bored at work one day and worked up a lovely little graph that lists which parks have EMH when, which parks are best that day, other notes, etc.

listblur.jpg

I blurred out the "best parks" column since it was influenced by TGM, and he's a little picky about his info not being shared. Look, I followed a rule! (Don't expect it to happen again!)

The main news I have to report in the wide world of pre-tripness is about the death of my camcorder. Know how I've been freaking out that something would happen to my beloved camera before the trip? Well, it happened to my camcorder instead! I turned it on last night to film something, and the word "PROTECTED!" flashed across the screen. This is supposed to come on when the tape inside is protected from being written over, but I had a brand new tape in! I tried a different tape, same thing. Finally I looked it up on the "internets", and found out that this is a very common problem with Samsung camcorders! (Buyer beware!) From what I could find, it costs around $100 to repair. YUCK! I've only had it for two years, too! Double yuck!

I spent all day trying to decide what to do. Spend $100 to repair it? Buy a new one? Go without a video camera this time? I was seriously leaning towards just going without at first- It's certainly something that I can live without. But then I thought of my big pretty list of things I want to videotape (Yes, I have planning issues.). I thought about how frustrating it would be to keep seeing things at the World that I wanted to tape, and not being able to. I mean, I even have a list of songs that I thought would be fun to set video clips to! I've had this grand plan building in my head all year to set footage to the "Magic Kingdom in the Sky" song!

I finally gave in. I mean, I'm going to need a new video camera eventually anyway- might as well get it now so that I'll have it for the trip! (I can't imagine not having one to videotape my dance performances with, so it would only be a matter of time before I broke down and bought one anyway!) Plus I have this awesome new tripod- not getting to use it for a video camera would be a waste!

Yeah, I'm still trying to justify spending *more* money to myself- I'm cheap! But I got a great deal on Amazon, and I think I'll be very happy with the new one! (Panasonic PV-GS29) Plus, the new one only weighs about a pound, compared to my 3lb old one! Hooray!

PLEASE don't let anything else break that will result in spending lots of money! This camera could have almost paid for a night at the Poly! Yeesh! (But the geek in me says YAY for shiny new toys!)

I'm down to 25 days until the trip, and just 17 days till work closes for the winter! Waiting is one of the hardest parts of a trip! (Quoth Anya from BTVS- "I tried being patient, but it took too long!")
