No clock available from housekeeping

It was reported recently that clocks were being removed from DVC rooms. We weren't too concerned because we thought we would just call to request one. Nope. Mousekeeping (at BWV) said none are available. We already have a lighted clock in our locker for the living room. I guess we'll be getting another for the bedroom.

Can I just say, again, how stupid this is?! I also figured that at least it wasn't too bad since one could be requested.

It's especially bad in the studios where in most of the resorts there is a bedside table on only one side. The person sleeping on the side with no table could at least sit up in bed a bit to see the clock on the other side. How are they supposed to see the time on a smart phone on the other side of the bed?

How long before they see an increase in guests still in the room after 11am on check out day because they overslept due to the lack of a clock next to the bed?

That won't be an excuse. It is very rare that there is no adult in the room that does not have a cell phone. That cell phone has an alarm clock built in.

This reminds me, our math teachers used to tell us that we won't always have a calculator with house. Boy, were they wrong!

I know a lot of people who either do not have a cell phone or have a very basic one and the only thing they know how to do with it is make/answer a phone call. Plus some of us find it much easier to glance at a clock with a large display to see the time in the middle of the night rather than fumbling for a phone and pressing a button to turn on the display.

I don't like using my cell phone during the night to see what time it is.............guess I will have to remember to pack the little clock I use when cruising

LIKE! :)

I still don't understand why they did this. First I heard that it was to free up space on the night table?! After 13 years, DVC has decided the night table needs more space. Now, they did something so that you can't request an alarm clock. Throw them all away? Or maybe I should check Ebay to see if they're on sale there.

The more stuff we have to remember to bring (or purchase for our Owners Locker) to make up for the silly decisions DVC has made the less DVC feels like a "home away from home". We stayed in several Hampton Inns on a trip this past summer. Every one of them had a nice alarm clock next to the bed. If Hampton Inn can do it, why can't DVC?

I bought a portable clock for our trip next week. I will be writing an e-mail to DVC if we do not have one in our room, this is part of a "normal" timeshare room inventory and I am asking for an explanation of why they were removed (I am not expecting an answer).

As I said, it is rare not unheard of.

Someone in purchasing decided to buy ihome clock radios that only fit the older iphone docking connector, a waste of money. The rehabbed rooms don't have a radio, others are being removed because Disney feels that the majority of guests have their own phones.

FYI - For apple products there are night stand apps that have a clock and the night stands in the refurbished rooms have USB connectors to charge your device.

I'm feeling clairvoyant today so let me see.... Ah! I've got it: "Based on member feedback...."

ETA: I plan to send an email as well.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. My phone can easily replace the alarm, but not the clock.

To me its a slight inconvenience, nothing to get worked up about. Even the most basic phone has a clock. The resort TV channel I believe has the time on it. If I'm up I can figure out the time. If its the middle of the night and I wake up, I'll go back to bed :).

I also think this was a stupid move on DVC,S part by removing the clocks from the rooms. What will b next ?

We were at BWV last week. I made sure the microwave time was correct and used that as my middle of the night clock in the studio. When we were in the one bedroom, used my phone part of the time, microwave in kitchen the other times (it also gave me a chance to check on the kids on the sleeper sofa.)

I do miss the clocks though. I'm not one that usually leaves my phone on overnight. With a teen and tween, at this point my phone is usually used to text with them and that's it.

I can't get too worked up over this, but I'm not sure what the problem of having a clock is for DVC. They aren't expensive (if it's just a clock), and they must buy them by the thousands getting an enormous price break. I think we'll throw a small digital clock in our owner's locker next trip.

I thought they were being replaced by something with USB ports and outlets. I'm sitting in my room at BLT and we are clockless, but there isn't anything in their place.

(And I really do miss the clock! I hate having to run and grab my phone to check the time or carry it with me throughout the room)

I'm surprised at how many folks are upset by the removal of these clocks.

I can't stand them because Mousekeeping does not check them to make sure the alarm is not set as part of cleaning the rooms. Nearly every time we stay, the alarm goes off hours prior to the time I need to wake up because it was still set from the last Guests.

Yup, I could check that before going to bed, but we forget to every single time out of pure exhaustion....
