No clock available from housekeeping

To a degree it really doesn't matter the preferences of an individual. I do not believe a bedside clock is an item that would be considered a resort requirement in 2015 and most aren't going to use them and/or won't care if their not there. To a degree it's like the valet parking change other than there wasn't an immediate event to push it at that time. It's unnecessary (big picture) and to take the aggravation and expense away is not only reasonable, IMO it's the right long term choice. That said, I personally tend to use them and I do feel the best choice would be to either have them to deliver if requested and/or to shunt them to the resorts without the USB plugs with no new purchases and disposing of the problem ones. I do not believe anyone can make the case that the club should continue to fund them long term.

This argument could be used to say that the only thing we really need in the room is the space itself and a toilet.
Everything else that provides comfort could be disposed of, sort of like a prison cell, one item at a time.

I don't think so. There are items that are clearly needed by a significant set of people and items that should be considered an integral part of a timeshare resort. The pool would be a good example. Many won't use it at WDW but enough will AND it's reasonably considered an integral part of a resort in this setting though may not in NYC. I don't believe the reverse it true, that one can argue for the clock based on these premises. Those arguing for the valet parking might be a better example

Each resort is suppose to have a few that are available upon request, first come, first serve.

As I posted yesterday on the DVC Resorts forum, according to several DVC GMs I spoke with, clocks should be available on request for those of us who like to have them. They're even new, not old ones they kept.

I am the one who posted on another thread that no clocks were available at BWV. I asked twice and was told no-go. Perhaps the person I spoke with was misinformed. She did not say that they were all in use, she said they are not available. I am glad to hear that clocks are, indeed, available.

I spoke directly to Kim, GM at BWV, and she seemed surprised and chagrined to hear that report. She made a note about it, too. So I'm hoping she'll make sure the answer is different next time you ask for a clock!

Thanks for doing that! I'll try again in March!

Is that Kim from AKL? I had heard that the GM's were doing a rotation.

I think so - Her last name begins with M but I won't begin to guess it. We also talked to Craig who is GM at AKL and Kent (Ken?) from Kidani.

The ones at PVB are very nice for setting my phone on to charge and not having to worry about a separate plug for it, so I hope they keep those for a while.

I know a lot of people who either do not have a cell phone or have a very basic one and the only thing they know how to do with it is make/answer a phone call. Plus some of us find it much easier to glance at a clock with a large display to see the time in the middle of the night rather than fumbling for a phone and pressing a button to turn on the display.
Yep and some of us have to find our glasses to turn on the cell phone to check the time, but we can see a clock without glasses. Plus the clock serves as a mini night light to find your glasses.

Give it 5 more years LOL
No housekeeping since you can wash your own towels in the laundrymat.
No garbage pickup ( just walk it down to the trash room ).

It's coming I tells ya.

Or how about this: In response to member feedback that the coffee DVC provides in the room is mediocre, Disney will install a Starbucks kiosk in the lobby of each resort and remove the coffeemakers from the rooms since they will no longer be necessary. Want your morning coffee? Just shuffle down to the lobby in your PJs and purchase a cup!

What bothers me about "clock-gate" is the waste of our dues on those expensive, over-sized, hard-to-set iHomes. As an Android user, I was miffed that I had to put up with this monstrous clock and didn't get any benefit from it beyond what a simple, inexpensive clock would provide. Then one day they come along and just toss them out leaving us with nothing. Who at DVC makes these decisions? Was it the same committee that decided those in a studio should drink their coffee from Styrofoam cups instead of real mugs?

But given the number of people on this thread who don't want a clock, it probably makes financial sense not to put them in the every room and just make them available for those who do want one. I guess I have to give them credit for that, provided the communication gets sorted out on that issue.

Kim Marinaccio left AKL and went to the Grand Floridian. Kent Mitchell is over AKV, Jambo and Kidani, or he was in October.

Kim is now at BWV. Kent is still at AKV. We had a nice conversation with Kim, Kent & Craig (Area Manager of AKL).

We are at AKV Kidani and I checked with the front desk about the status of the clocks in the villas. The CM confirmed that clocks are no longer listed as a standard in-room amenity, but she said that they had clocks that could be given to guests upon request.

We were in our villa for over a day before I even noticed the bedside clock was no longer there.

Just a question: Does anyone wear a wristwatch any longer? Or have wristwatches gone the way of film cameras? If knowing the exact time is so important, I would think a wristwatch would be an essential item for someone, especially if they don't use (or even have) a smartphone to tell time.

Personally, I haven't worn a watch in 3-4 years. The battery died and I was too cheap (or is it thrifty?) to get the battery replaced.

My husband and I both wear watches. It is the first thing I put on in the morning after my glasses. Last thing that comes off at night right before my glasses. I began using my cell phone alarm last March after I fell on the ice and broke my shoulder. I then spent nearly 3 months sleeping in the living sitting up and it was simply more convenient than getting a clock to put next to me. Once I got used to it I was OK and now that's all I use. HOWEVER, I still like to look at a real honest to goodness clock sometimes. Just glance up & see the time. The clocks weren't hurting anything. Seems wasteful to pull them out and destroy them. Why not just wait until they died then chuck 'em? When I wake up in the middle of the night I like to see a clock to see what time it is. Guess I'll be fumbling for my cell phone. And since most DVC studios only have the one nightstand if it happens to be on the other side of the bed from "my side" I will improvise a make-**** night stand. Sometimes we take one of the trash cans in the room & just turn it upside down & push it along side the bed. At least I have a place to put my watch, glasses, phone & a bottle of water besides on the floor.

My parents don't have smart phones. But there's always still the option of calling the front desk for a wake-up call, right?

Just back from 3 nights at the Grand Cal: There was an alarm clock next to the bed in the master bedroom (1BR unit).

I've traveled a lot for work and have been in hotels all across the country. I can't say I've ever had one that did not have a clock. I was at BWV last week and just left my iPad on the nightstand, it was kind of a pain if I woke up. I would reach over, pick it up, swipe the screen, to see the time.

I still don't understand why they did this. First I heard that it was to free up space on the night table?! After 13 years, DVC has decided the night table needs more space. Now, they did something so that you can't request an alarm clock. Throw them all away? Or maybe I should check Ebay to see if they're on sale there.
Forgive me as I haven't read all 4 pages of replies so I'm not sure if someone has already said, the clocks are on sale for something crazy like $5 in the cast member shop behind AK
