First flub of the month. My target is to eliminate impulse spending. I figure when the gas tank is empty, I gotta fill it and when the insurance bill comes due I gotta pay it so no point getting wound up about that.

Graded for hours and hours yesterday. Rewarded myself with Chinese for lunch even though there were healthy leftovers in my fridge. It was under $5 so it won't break the bank, but it WAS an impulse/non essential spend.

The balancing factor is that I'm doing the pantry challenge--eating down stockpiled food to free up space and cash before Thanksgiving. Our grocery bill so far this month is under $10.

Well, not a daily update, but here is one for me:

11/01 - $268.63 for groceries, big load for the month and got a $25 gift card for it.
11/02 - $0
11/03 - $0
11/04 - $8.31 at McDonalds of all places. Oh well.

So that's 2 down for my goal of 15 no-buy days this month ... 13 more to go.

Doing something like this definitely makes you more thoughtful about purchases.

Nov. 3: $3.17 hardees, $1.50 bus fare, $30.94 Walgreens, $1.06 limeade, $6.35 Borders (for part of a gift), $2.37 2 bagels and $1.50 bus fare

Oct. 4: $1.50 bus fare, $4.50 (chinese food) lunch, $12.82 dollar general (stocked up on trash bags, splenda and got a few other things) and $13.01 groceries at Kroger's plus $1.00 snack at work

I have an appt. Feb. 1 so I need a new calendar to keep track of things. I think I will get a $1.00 calendar instead of spending 10 or 15 times that at a Bookstore or some-where.:woohoo:

Nov 1 - $17 dinner at WDW (the only money I spent at Disney this weekend!) That's almost a miracle.
Nov 2 - $3 breakfast, $1.50 making copies, and $5 sending a certified letter.
Nov 3 - $10 in gas (all the cash I had with me ... ) and $8 on a Christmas gift for my sister.
Nov 4 - $30 in gas (and a full tank, which seems to last like three days ... sigh) and $10 for dinner since I was SICK yesterday)
Nov 5 - $3 breakfast, $7 cold meds. However, I'm feeling better.

I try to do one BIG shopping trip a month, and I think it's going to be today. And, I don't mean groceries. I mean, all those stupid things you need to buy when you buy a house and you realize you don't have them. I try to buy a couple of things off the list per month ... but honestly, I don't even want to spend the money today.

Yesterday was a trip to Walgreens and my DH got gas. Today (Thurs) is my morning off so I run errands- A discounted Thanksgiving welcome sign for my door; scrapbook paper, stickers, and paints for Christmas gift craft projects; under bed storage for my MIL; a couple groceries; a coffee from Starbucks plus a $10 refill on my Starbucks gift card...

Finally back to the office. DS7 is feeling better and is back at school. My boss figures I may be burnt out rather than actually sick and I've decided she's probably right ... either that or I've become a complete hypochondriac after everything that has happened in our house over the past month and a half. :lmao:

I've updated the budget a little based on the one I had prepared at teh office. I had forgotten a few Christmas gifts so I've now added them.

Instead of splurging on the $50 Carhartt for women work pants (which I still realllly want), I opted for three pairs of old jeans and a hoodie at the resale store down the street. Much more in the budget! :teacher:

Of course, I forgot to buy a belt. :headache:

Let's just hope the pants don't fall off tomorrow at work...:rolleyes1

I ALMOST went to Cane's (fried chicken place - YUM!) today but decided it was too late in the day to ruin my $0 day so I rummaged around the pantry. :thumbsup2

Tomorrow will not be a $0 day. It is the last day of the book fair and there is a book I want to get (it's all about homophones and I teach ESL) and I think tomorrow I'll pick up Cane's on the way home. There's also another book that if they still have a copy, I want to get it. It's some encyclopedia of Disney animated characters. :rolleyes1

5: Gas $25.23; Drugstore.com $61.34 (again, came from my HSA debit card); Blurb book $27.16

Tomorrow WILL be a $0 day. At least that's what I'm telling myself.

I had no choice but to get gas this morning (I wouldn't have made it to work!) so once I blew it, I felt like I may as well spend other money. Anyone else have this problem?

Absolutely!!

I also find, however, that if I put something off to group errands onto one day, I use less gas. I also keep a running list of things I need/want to get at Target/Walmart and by the time I go to shop at the store, I have deleted some of the wants off the list. :thumbsup2

Ya I feel that way too. It is easy to just keep adding things on to a bad day.

I would totally cheat and not count your HSA stuff in my regular budget :) I have about 1K left on my savings card that I use for different things. Too bad I can't buy things I need like gas and milk with it! lol

These next couple of days are going to be a lil scary! We are going to Arizona for brother-in-laws wedding. We will be there tomorrow through Monday. I hope we don't spend too much, but I am only bringing $200 so hopefully we will bring back a lot left over! If not, it will be coming out of the eating out budget and then the Misc. budget leaving me with $78 in Misc. if I spend it all! I really hope we don't! Wish me luck!

Oh and I even packed all of our clothes into a larger overhead carry-on so I don't have to spend the $30 round-trip in baggage fees!
