On to the graduation and graduation party.
I am pretty close to on track right now.

5/20 - finishing up the menu planning and house stuff. Will have 12 people sleeping here(beyond our reg. family) for 2 nights. I feel okay, concerned I have forgotten a BIG item.

5/25 - She graduated with honors yesterday. We had a small lunch for 10 after the graduation and then we went off to 3 open houses. The lunch was included in the food for the party ( 35.00 but leftovers now for lunches this weekend and next week at work.
The "big " party is on Saturday. Expecting about 100. Taking Wed. off for food prep, house prep, last minute stuff.
I feel a bit out of whack due to the car issues and lack of sleep last night but today is a sunny beautiful day and I expect to accomplish many little tasks that are on my list and hope to sleep soundly tonight.
On to the the BIG ONE!!

Feels good to put it on paper rather than have it run wild and wonder where it all went.

I'll just hang out here and read how everyone's doing and wait until the No Buy June thread. I want this to be a low budget summer. Our plans are to go to the Movies at least once, the local zoo, and the library (a lot) and need to budget this in.

I'll work on it while you guys finish up May.

Ah, the weekend's damage. We attempted to stay home instead of going away. So, we greased up with sunscreen and set off to the pool. It was closed for training!:confused3 On Memorial Day Weekend? So, I Pricelined a hotel in Austin and we had a mini-vacation. DS totally dug the pool and we had a blast. We went to the grocery store once we saw we had a fridge and bought snacks for the evening and milk and pastries for Sunday's breakfast. We stopped at the Disney outlet and they were having a great sale! I bought a beach towel, a set of jammies, a new wallet, and four t-shirts for $41! :smokin: It was a great score. We had a great time at the zoo and it felt so great to go away, even for one night.

I did have a close call with a Wii on Friday. When I went to Walmart to get a new watch, I was circling through the electronics & movies looking for some Cabelleros that I've been on the hunt for, when I saw them unpacking some Wiis. I was totally close to tossing one in the cart since at that time I thought we weren't going away for the weekend. I ended up talking myself out of it because I know that it's not just the initial $250 you shell out. It's all the stuff that comes later like a second controller and games. Maybe for Father's Day...

So sorry about your loss. I commend you on your donation to the Red Cross instead of flowers. Yes, flowers are beautiful, but helping others is far more beautiful, IMO.

Bought groceries today. Boy, things seem to be creeping up again. It has been a while since I did a huge shop like I did today, and I was shocked when my total was $135. But, we are up to our eyeballs in fresh summer fruits and veggies. DS is off of veggies again, so I pulled down the juicer. What? Carrots and celery in our juice, I'm shocked!;) I am definitely going to have to increase the grocery & gas funds for June.

I'll post June tomorrow, for those of us who want to go again!

I think it's been about 10 days since I posted.

Trying to catch up & keep myself honest...

5/19: $0
5/20: $0

5/23: $67.18 on dinner & drinks out for DBF & I w/ friends
5/24: $10.56 on eating out (picked up food at Farm Fresh)

5/27: $0
5/28: $41.01 on gas (first one over $40 ever! :( ), $11.71 on lunch out w/ coworkers

Looks like I spent a lot... but for the month I'm not doing that bad. Gas has killed me ($50 over), but I'm still under budget on everything else except groceries ($12 over). I know this is mostly because I had my week of exemptness w/ my mom. And I went over there, so I can't say I did TOO well.

Oh and I also had to pay $193 in personal property taxes this month. I just pulled that out of savings.

And we've got 3 days left! ;)

You know, I like it when they shake up the smilies, but now I just keep wondering if this guy:moped: is getting 80 mpg.

I'd be cross if I wasn't so excited about my budget blow out for May...

We've been wanting to adopt an adult mini dachshund for some time and not been able to find one or just missing out.

I had a call at 8.30am to say that we were going to be doggie parents again!

We pick her up at 1pm today... that was $765 + all the extra things we will no doubt need to pay for. To heck with the budget! We got paid out our annual profit share (aka bonus) from work yesterday so that more than covers the costs.

I'm so excited - 2 hours until I go to collect her from the airport - she's flying in from the North Island.

Ok, today's the last day of may, and wow, I learned something really important in the last week:

KIDS KILL YOUR BUDGET!!!!::yes:: :faint:

Their last day of school was May 23, and I look at all my receipts from them and augh, I can't even post them, I'm so EMBARRASSED! Ice cream, nintendo games, food, more food, clothes, jeez, I totally messed up once I had them around me all the time! I've gotten to the point where I'm ok with not buying stuff when it's just me, but man, can I NOT say no to them.

And it's dawning on me that I need to. Not because we're going broke, but what am I teaching them? Mommy's the Money Tree, that's what ;) .

So, I am going to build into tomorrow's budget something called "Mommy Money Tree" and cap it at 100 dollars. I'm going to let the girls know what it is and how much it is, and when I'm spending it on them. They're good girls so I think they'll be ok with being included in the budget, but it'll definitely take some getting used to for everyone.

Thanks, Siouxstone, again, for doing this thread; I had NO idea I spent so much so fast on my (totally deserving:love: ) kids. I can show my love in other ways besides shopping, I think:thumbsup2 .

Thanks for posting this b/c I feel the exact same way!! The kids got out of school on May 21st and the budget went down the drain. Even though I have tracked every receipt for my budget sheet, I too am embarressed to post it.

I love your idea of the "mommy" budget line. Just in the past 2 hours I doled out money for one child to go to a movie, money for another child to get a Jonas Brothers magazine, and money for a third child to get a new water bottle for camp. Its out of control! But darn how I love the little munchkins.
