No Buy January

Our new appliances are ready for pick up tonight!!!!

We have been saving for over a year for new appliances. All of ours are 19 years old and original with the house. All are having *issues!*

Anyway, we saved $5,000 plus another $500 for taxes.

I got a flyer saying that not only was a lot of stuff at Sears already discounted, but that if you bought all 3 appliances, you get a 20% rebate!!!!

We had shopped for weeks and knew the prices of things so we were thrilled! We spent $3,500 plus $340 in tax on over $5,000 worth (retail) of appliances!!!

Now we have another $2K to put towards fixing the heat pump that went out!

I feel bad for all of you out there who have been ill, but the upside is that you are saving money. Not so for our household. I took two of my daughters to the dr. yesterday - $140 and then their medicine cost another $65. I had to go to the eye doctor today - another $116. Other than that I have been so good about staying at home and eating - Not one Sonic Happy Hour out, gas, or groceries. In fact, I am so good with groceries that I can make it another week. We are going over to friends tonight for pizza and I am providing salad and dessert - all stuff I have here at home.

Good Luck over the weekend everyone. Hopefully we can make it home Sunday after church instead of hitting a restaurant.

congrats on saving the $2,000 sorry the heat pump went out. good luck on getting a good deal.

1/4 $17.50 This was unplanned for January, but it was for a Valentines Day gift for DH so I would've spent it anyway. I didn't think about shipping dates when I was planning for January, I need to shop for Valentines day this month so I can ship it out on Feb. 1st.

I am doing great with no eating out, the kids asked yesterday while we were out running errands, but I said no. Tomorrow will be hard, we have bowling and the kids always try to talk me into buying french fries there. I have lunch planned already, but man, they have the BEST fries, obviously I'm easy to persuade there. Afterward I will be going to the post office and spending $8.95 (is that the amt. for a flat rate box?) to send DH a care package, but that's already planned in my budget.

1/1 $0 :thumbsup2
1/2 $0 :thumbsup2
1/3 $51.49 groceries (within budget) :thumbsup2
1/4 $31.xx groceries (still within budget) :thumbsup2

Ok, I've had my first mommy budget shock. Kiddo went into the hospital on the 31st and got out this afternoon. $500 hospital copay, $100 in meds so far. I am expecting another $200 in med and doc copays. I knew kids were expensive but good grief!!! So if you disregard these big bills I have

dipping my toes in....

I'm not really good with the family budget, I love a good sale. This is a new goal for this year.

Yesterday m dad helped me figure out the spread sheet to figure out where our money is going and plan where we need/want to cut.

Taking the idea of this thread, I have started to write everything down starting the first of this month.

I am going to rein in the $ and this thread is great encouragement!!!!

For example, I got an email for BBW and I have been fighting my urge to go and stock up on wallflowers and if I go there I would have prob gone to VS to spend more on sales. Needless to say I "can't" do it and keep to my no buy rule.

So I wanted to say thank you for keeping me on goal! You saved me at least $25 or more on the little shopping trip I was going to do after the girls got out today.:flower3:

Oh, is she doing better now? I hate when kiddos get sick, but you're a new momma, you shouldn't have to worry about that stuff yet. Let the kiddo and you get used to eachother first. Sending hugs that she gets better soon!

Today was a no spender. I don't count paying my regular bills as spending, so even though I paid my storage shed bill from last month :headache:, it counts as a no spend. I can't believe I forgot to pay last month. Oops. Next week I will pay THIS month, and get my junk out.

1/1 - $0
1/2 - $37
1/3 - $66
1/4 - $0!

I did however, completely forget to get Juliette some pullups at Walmart ... oops. However, they had some cute things I wanted to pick up for Toys for Tots (getting started early), so I will probably go there Sat or Sunday. There goes trying to get all sorts of no spend days ... :confused3. I wish she would just finish this stinkin potty training thing already, but she has no wish to do it at my parents house (who watch her on the weekends for me) and ... well, I'm kinda bad about remembering to remind her when she and I get home. :rolleyes1

Tonight, my mom invited us over for dinner. I LOVE me some free dinner. I was expecting some sort of take out, and had my fingers crossed for free chinese food. I was shocked! My mom, who can't boil water, made homemade meatballs and spaghetti sauce. I've been talking to her about a)how much healthier it is and b)how much cheaper when you make things from scratch, and she tried. It was REALLY good. Plus, she sent us home with leftovers.  I love me some left overs.

Throwing it back to November, but tonight I am truely thankful for my fantastic momma.

Hi everyone...HAD to buy hairdye today( usually have it done at the salon, but am stretching trips.) That was budgeted for but i also picked up a hardcover book for Dad's bday for $2.50. This will save me in the long run however because i always buy him a book, usually at $10-$25. I also bought a card for an uncle's birthday that I forgot, so another $2. So $4.50 that i didn't really budget for BUT it came out of my fast food fund that was budgeted for. ( I am not even carrying around my cc anymore ) I was starving on the way home from work and still had 2 hours before dinner, but I stopped at home and made a peanut butter sandwich to tide me over:rolleyes1 : Do you ever feel like you're being super cheap???:rotfl:

Yes she is, thanks for asking! They thought she had RSV (is that the right letter combo?) but it was baby bronchitis (sp?). Poor thing had to be poked and prodded and have all kinds of stuff stuck to her. Hopefully she won't have asthma because of all of this!

1/4 - $0.08 at CVS for 17 Soy Joy bars
1/4 - $0.02 at CVS for 6 12-packs of Pepsi and 1 Soy Joy bar

I love all the deals to be had at CVS! Carrying home 6 12-packs was SOOOO not fun. It is cold and the snow has turned to ice on the sidewalks. I live 4 blocks from the CVS and I thought maybe I could make it. No such luck! I made it 1 block, then took the bus for 2 blocks, and then walked the final (short) block to my house. I thought my arms were going to fall off! What won't I do for a deal? ;)

I think the people on the bus thought I was crazy! :rolleyes1 Who takes the bus for 2 blocks? That's 1/8 of a mile! I climb on the bus, heaving the boxes of pop, pay my fare (on monthly pass, so "free"), and by the time I make my way to the back exit on the bus, it was my stop! Don't mind the lady in the pink coat and giant fluffy scarf... she's on a budget! :rotfl2:

I'm glad to hear she is doing better. Nothing like being thrown straight into the mom thing, isn't it.

When Juliette was a couple of days old, we went to the ped for her first check up. For some reason, the hospital had left the clamp on the umbilical cord, so my doctor was like "I'll just take this off for you, it won't be anything hard." He accidentally ripped off the stump. Julie was SCREAMING, and my mom had to catch me b/c I nearly passed out. Her doctor was my doctor ... and I have complete and total trust of this man b/c he saved my life ... but whew ... I would never put someone through something like that.

BTW, her belly button still has a TINY scar in the middle from where the stump was torn off. I can laugh about it now, but let me tell you ... scared me to death.
