Arg, had to go to a friends jewelry/40th b-day party, got the least expensive piece for 39$, 45$ w/ tax & shipping. Dang - have to go to another one tom. - for dd's teacher, I've politely declined for the past 3 selling parties she's had, so feel I need to go to this one:headache:. Makes me mad that I've been trying not to eat out, save $ & then feel pressured to spend $ for these dumb parties when I usually just buy jewelry from Target.

I feel your pain! Many years ago, my boss started selling Longaberger because she wasn't able to make ends meet. Now, I have a $90 tampon holder sitting on the back of my toilet.:rolleyes1

Let's see... while everyone else was scrubbing hardwoods I was forgetting to pack a lunch for work on Saturday and woke up super duper late for work on Sunday without time for coffee or breakfast. Sad, because if I had just planned for Saturday and not snoozed too many times on Sunday, I would've had four in a row!:sad2:

Yeah, I've become adept at avoiding those parties-Silpada, Pampered Chef, Avon, Tupperware, Amway, some custom kids clothes, it just goes on and on and on.

It really bugs me, personally, when people trade on your friendship to force you into buying stuff. And for me, if I show up, I feel obligated to buy because that's who I am. So, I just don't go because they're never, ever a good deal.

The dishwasher is making godawful noises this morning :headache:. It's a two year old top of the line kitchenaid, why isn't ANYTHING built right nowadays? I need to go see what the warranty is on it.

Oh yeah, the Viking stove (also 2 years old)-the broiler won't work. Both happened within the last 24 hours. And I got rid of the warranty on the house because, as I told the woman "I'm not paying $600/year for things on a two year old house-what's gonna break?" Geez. :rolleyes1

Off to do some hunting on the internet...

Kickapoo, I feel your pain, with me it is the clothes dryer. It is making an awful racket when it starts up and is running extremely noisy. But it is 21 years old and I have been hanging up stuff to dry as much as possible. I am putting away a dollar here and there to build up a replacement fund cause it is clear it is on its last leg.

I fell off the nobuy wagon this month and haven't been posting but I wanted to tell Kickapoo... that our dishwasher was making an awful noise the other day. DH took the inside apart (on the bottom where the thing spins) and found all kinds of stuff in there. Now it sounds normal and is cleaning the dishes better.

OMG, thank you! I have a feeling it's something like that-I'll get DH to poke around tonight.

Hey, I didn't take down my no-buy badge, I again stumbled on the rules of the dis so they took it away until November:rolleyes:.

I did have a no-buy today though , worked on the calendar instead.

If I ever do stop posting, it's because I got kicked off for being a potty mouth, not because I fell off the no buy wagon totally...

Of course tomorrow I am buying a new camera and memory card which will put me WAY over. But I'll roll the overage to Sept.

Well, that camera's a necessity considering you're taking such a cutie pie to Disney! Get a BIG memory card-last time we were there in April I think I took about 500 pictures:rotfl2:

I ended up going through a drive through last night-darn it! Not only is Sonic bad for my hips, it's bad for my zeroes...

Hey, I was just doing some archiving and I came across a post from Siouxstone (who started the original No Buy thread back in August 2007), and I thought it was really enlightening, and maybe should be part of the first post in the future No Buy threads so we don't forget the origination of No Buy...

"Siouxstone 12-29-2007, 10:53 AM

I'm glad so many people have gotten something from the No Buy threads. I originally started it to save as much cash as possible for our September WDW trip. I am a little shocked and pleased to still be living the lifestyle. I have learned so much about our spending lifestyle and real world budgeting.

My biggest lesson is that I was not allowing for "real life" in my budget. There has not been a single month of our No Buys where I didn't have something come up. We've weathered an ER visit, car problems and an unexpected funeral trip. Before the No Buy, I would've just pulled money from our emergency fund and probably never gotten it back. Now, I have money to take care of little issues and am still putting money away into the emergency fund. It's really grown at a steadier rate.

The Dis crowd has also made a huge difference. Everyone has been wonderfully supportive without turning into a flame zone anytime anyone falls off the wagon. And we've all been there. It allows each person to set their own exemptions and everyone is friendly about it. Just try posting on other boards that the WDW payment is a "neccessity"!:lmao:

I really wish I could somehow keep a tally of everything I have resisted buying thanks to the threads. I'm sure it would be well into the thousands and I didn't consider myself a big shopper before then. It's amazing how many times I can remember grabbing one of those convenient bottled drinks at the checkout stands of stores or tossing in a magazine before the No Buy. Talk about throwing away money. And the drive-thru is pretty much a thing of the past. This has had another little benefit: Anyone remember the thread from last summer about "Dave Ramsey has made me loose weight"? I laughed at the time I read it, but I've dropped about 12 lbs since August and that's really the only thing I can think of that I've changed.

As for the Judith Levine book "Not Buying It", I read it when it first came out. I really expected it to be more of a "how to" than a biography. It was more political than I was aiming for, but hey, I am all about saving money for whatever reason. I must admit I kept wondering how it would all work if you threw a couple of kids into the equation!:rotfl: "

BAM! That was my budget blowing up :)

Bought three tanks and a skirt at Lane Bryant for $16.10. 70% off, $15 of coupon, couldn't resist. And the skirt is one I can wear to work so that rocks!

I also got my camera and another set of rechargeable batteries for $208.01.

So I'm in the hole. Which is embarrassing since it is such a short month for me. Plus my posts aren't so much no buy as an attempt to stay in budget. When I go over $690 zero goes in the savings account :(

(my car is dead too....my Dad is going to try to fix it. I told him to have mercy and wait until I leave town to buy the parts so I can count it for next month :lmao:)
