Wow! Looking for Studio for Aug 9 and departing on the 15th. Nothing available except for Saratoga Springs. So much for last minute trip. :confused3 I have reservation at Pop just in case my waitlists for BW and OKW don't come through. OKW only had 9, 11, 13 and 14 available! I thought that was odd. I was afraid to take those 4 days and waitlist for the other 2. I will be using borrowed pts from Sept 09 UY, so I didnt want to get stuck. I didn't think everything would be filled for this particular time of year, but I guess I thought wrong.

Do you think I should take SS? I just got cast off my foot and it is still really painful so worried about doing all of the extra walking just to get to the pool as we might not do parks this time around.

I love SSR. I think you should stay there.

Any chance you will have a car? Buildings are real easy to drive to and each lodging building does have an elevator so getting around and up and down isn't that difficult in my opinion. I think it easier to get to your room here than in some of the "long hallway" resorts.

SSR is a really nice resort. Put in a request to be near the pool. They have pools in each section, so this should be an easy request to fulfill. If you do want to do the parks one day, rent a scooter. I like Randy's Mobility 321-281-6603 or 407-256-5150 locally. Scooters are $30 - $35 per day depending on your weight. Cheaper than in the parks and Disney makes it so easy to get on transportation with one. If you do get a scooter, I'd recommend the grandstand section of SSR because it is the first bus stop and will be easier to get on with an empty bus. If you have more questions on it, check out the DISability board. :thumbsup2

I would take the SSR reservation just to have something confirmed. You could request one of the GrandStand buildings (numbered 8101-88836) closest to one of the smaller pools, which is only about 100-150' from the elevator. It also has a water play area, grilling area and pool bar for the adults. Plus you are very close to the first pickup/drop-off bus stop at SSR. We stayed in the 8101-8436 building this past October and loved it. Its only a 2-3 minute walk to the main building and large pool area as well.

Well when you said nothing was available I thought nothing was avail... but SSR is so why not have a trip?? :confused3:confused3

The only reason for you to not have your last minute vacation is if you choose not to stay at SSR. You can definitely book it and WL elsewhere?

SSR is nice. I don't care where I stay as long as I'm in disney and not at work.

I wouldn't exactly say there's no availability when there actually is at SSR - all it means is that it's your last choice or not an option in your opinion. SSR is a very nice resort and has many more amenities than POP and I would take that any day. I would book that, cancel my cash ressie and then waitlist for two other options that you would prefer more and that have a decent chance of coming thru.

If you are having difficulty walking it might be a good idea to get a wheelchair at any resort - even the non-condo style resorts can have long hallways that aren't any different than getting to the pool at SSR or OKW. All the resorts have some wheelchairs available for guests to use for free - the only things is that if they are all loaned out you could be out of luck. It may feel weird to you to use one but it's better than reinjuring yourself. Or as was mentioned a scooter is another option and no pusher is needed.

I'd take SSR, and request a room near a pool. OKW can be a long hike to a pool, too. Every resort has some rooms that are a hike to the pools.

Studios will always fill up fast because they don't require as many points. Do you think you'd have enough to get a 1BR? You may have more choices if you go that route. But I'm with the other posters who say to go ahead and stay at SSR. It's wonderful! :goodvibes

Thank you for all of your suggestions! :grouphug:
I did try the 1 bedroom for Sun-Thurs part of my stay and they only had a day here and there at the other resorts. I think I might just go with SSR and see if I like it. I did also try the other DVC resorts and they didn't have any availability for all of those dates..just a date here and there. I have done multiple room changes on other trips...up to 4 moves sometimes  and I know I DO NOT want to do that this time...too much stress in moving!!

I hope it goes well :)
SSR wouldn't be my first pick but I would take it over a Value Resort.
I'll toss a little pixie dust your way as well in hope of you getting a waitlist :yay:

Just wanted to edit and add...I will always put SSR on the bottom rung too...
I would rather anything (DVC) over that so I understand the statement of there being "nothing"

But planning wise...it is very last minute which isn't typical booking pattern for DVC so I wouldn't be surprised if really nothing was available.

Frankly, I amazed there is anything available this late! BTW, if SSR is "nothing"?:confused3

First...NOTHING available? Does SSR just like not count to you?:scared: You'd really rather stay in a value resort??:sad2: And ummm...you're looking to go in just 2 months?? In DVC terms that really is last minute. And it's still summer. Why would you think there would be more availablility in summer?

Personally, we'd much, much, MUCH rather stay at SSR than OKW. At least it's clean & new. As big as OKW is why would you consider that to be any better choice than SSR?? I am not following that thought process.:confused3

Have you ever tried SSR before? It's a lovely resort. Just call and request to be as close to one of the pools as possible and request it again when you check in. SSR does have elevators but you coud also ask for ground floor or close to the elevators if you think that would help. We thoroughly enjoyed the pool in the Grandstand section when we stayed there. Personally, I think you are sounding a little short sighted, especially if you have not tried SSR before. (Sorry about your foot...my Mom just got a cast off from breaking her ankle - had 6 screws / pins put in. But now that the cast is off she's improving rapidly.)

:confused3:confused3 OKW only has 3 (I think buildings with elevators) and SSR has all buildings. Your chances of getting a room at OKW in a elevator building are not good , so then you need to climb steps. As far a the pool walking both resorts have buses to get you to the HH.
SSR without a doubt:goodvibes

I would def say stay at SSR. I also recently booked at last minute trip. I had the options of OKW and SSR. I have stayed at both and selected SSR due to the layout/newness. You may think that OKW is smaller, but if you were put at the farthest room in OKW it would be farther from the lobby than the farthest room in SSR. It really has to do with the layout. I am going solo and was worried about having to walk around at night, if I was placed in one of the farther villas.

I also agree with the elevator statement. Due to the newness of SSR there are more elevators. And just like OKW there is an intraresort bus that runs if you need it!

To the OP--we tried to change our reservation to that week and I too uttered the phrase "there's nothing available, just SSR" so don't feel bad :)

I can't tell you why. We've stayed at SSR several times. But we did not change our original reservation. We are also considering trading out to a WDW hotel. Maybe the theming is too subtle for us. I know we always joke about staying at *grandma's* when we stay there because the furnishings look just like my MIL's house. I know it's not the walking--we love OKW (I think because it feels like you're actually in florida).

Who knows why we say it? But I'm right there with ya!

SSR really is a beautiful resort. I think it gets a bad rap because it is so large and always seems to have availability so it seems no one really makes it their first choice. I really do think you will be able to get a room close to the elevator and pool if you go ahead with this one.

So much better than a value resort in any case.

Wow....your MIL's house has custom made Thomasville furnishings and granite counter tops? She has good taste ;)

We love SSR. There are a number of pools or you can request the Springs area if you want to be at the main pool. It would definitely be better than POP.
