I was planing my first Disneyland trip in Oct. I knew it was a long shot over a holiday weekend to get into Disney Grand Californian hotel. My questions is because I can't get into it where should I stay? How are the Good Neighbor hotels? Looking to stay for a few days and want to be as close as possible without breaking the bank.

I was also thinking about Disney Paradise Pier Hotel? Any thoughts?

Thanks
Ron

We love PPH, but wouldn't use points to stay there unless we had enough AND those points were going to go to waste otherwise. (this is assuming your membership can use points for PPH)

There are many good hotels and even more motels in the area. Check out the Disneyland forum for more.

My personal offsite favorite is Anabella. It's a little walk from there up to the Grand, and you can get to the esplanade from there to enter the parks. Lovely walk. If we want a longer walk (that takes us up Harbor to the main esplanade entrance) we like Hilton Anaheim.

The Hotels nearby are very safe, clean, & perfectly fine to stay...

Park Vue is a very very close 1 across the street which gets good reviews....My sis stays at Candy Cane, which is around a 7 or so min. walk.

We stayed 2 days at Hotel Menage which is the opposite way....Fabulous place with a nice restaurant, pool, & rooms too. It was about a 9 min. walk I'm guessin, but would definitely stay there again....

Besides the 2 nights at the hotel, We also did happen to get 5 days at GCV in possibly the best studio....6th floor facing DCA & World of color show.....

We are staying at the Disneyland Hotel but on a cash reservation. Really wanted to try the Grand Californian but we just bought into DVC last month so not much of a chance.

Our favorite is the Grand Californian, but we've stayed at the Annabella and at the Ramada Maingate (now The Grand Legacy At The Park) when we can't get resort rooms. I recommend either.

Another vote for Candy Cane Inn. Seven minute walk, or use their bus if you're tired. Free, big, breakfast spread. Nice rooms, nice grounds, free parking. AAA discount as well, with already reasonable prices.

The only other property we've stayed at is Paradise Pier and we liked it a lot. But I probably wouldn't use points for it...I would likely pay cash as the points are high.

When we went to Disneyland a couple of years ago, we couldn't get into GCV, so ended up staying a few days on points at the Disneyland Hotel and then a number of days at the Sheraton Park Hotel at Anaheim Resort. The Disneyland Hotel was (of course) really great, the room was big and had a day bed and the musical light up headboards. Expensive use of points as many have said, but we enjoyed it. We also really liked the Sheraton Park Hotel. Many years ago, this hotel was owned by Jack Wrather who also owned Disneyland Hotel before Disney bought it. Had nice big balconies to sit out on, and was pretty convenient. Had an exterior "looking glass" elevator too, like DLH used to, which was fun.
