No availability at all...How can this be?

I went to the WDW website to try to book a room on line just to see what was available in Dec. For Dec. 1-7, requesting a value resort, the closest match was at Saratoga Springs. For Dec. 8-15, the was NO AVAILABILITY AT ALL. What's up with this? Last year, before I was DVC, I booked a Dec. trip a few months out with no problem. The economy this year is much worse than last year so I don't understand everything being sold out. I have a trip for Dec. 8-15 and I am dreading going because of the crowds that have to be there if every resort is at capacity.

The first 2 weeks of December is very popular for DVC. The second week is the Pop Warner football & cheerleading championships at Wide World of Sports, they take alot of rooms. The parks are generally not real crowded during this time.

I think they also have a Disney Visa free dining promo during part of December this year, so the regular resorts may be busier than normal.

Worst for us in the US, but not for those from other countries, still benefiting (or booked when benefiting) from a weak dollar.

I have been waitlisted a couple weeks for that time period, too. Amazing how everything is full. Good luck to us both.

Only a couple of weeks! I have been waitlisted since Jan 31st for one date and sevral otehr came through late April and early June!!!

The weak $ was good for our initial purchase, was 15% better, but not so much now for purchases during our upcoming stay, even so better than it was 6 years ago :)

Travelocity shows availability at a few resorts for Dec 1-5 (POR, AS, Pop, CB, Swan/Dol) and then it drops off due to the weekend.
It seems CB, CS and Swan/Dolphin have a few rooms over the weekend but seem to be going fast.
Search Travelocity day by day (that is Dec 1, then Dec 2, then Dec3) to get a true sense of what is available because if you just search the week of Dec 1-7 it shows no availability except for Swan/Dolphin

There is always, gasp, offsite!

You know this is funny. I wonder how many folks don't go to WDW because they never considered off-site. I know we were planning a trip last May and everything was full. We had some great air rates plus AP's and really wanted to go. It never even crossed my mind to look just a little off-site. It's not the worst thing in the world.

If I really, really wanted to go and nothing onsite was available I would consider offsite ONLY if it was a really nice resort. Or I would probably stay at one of the US resorts and take the drive. I don't think I could do it otherwise.

Ok now I am concerned. I was contemplating buying some points and then using them to get a room at this lodge during the first week of May. I thought I was doing this in plenty of time. From what I am reading, it would appear that there is little possibility of this occurring. I can get the points only to turn around and not find a room. Is this accurate??

May probably won't be a problem. The first half of December is busier than it used to be at WDW - there are some large group bookings and the Christmas decorations are a big draw. DVC has been popular during this time for quite a while because of the lower points needed. Many DVC villas fill up fast for the Food & Wine Festival and the first half of December. May isn't likely to be as busy.

Oh, please tell me Pop Warner week isn't the second week in Dec. It was always the first week, and we stopped going then because of it. You won't find any availability when Pop Warner is there.

I always wondered if they close down some rooms during this time to refurbish rooms. It is supposed to be the "value time" isn't it?

It starts the first Sunday in December, which is December 7 this year.

OH NO!!!! We have had such awful experiences in the parks when this is going on....I won't get into it. We posted about it last year. It seems to get worse every year. Too late now to change my dates...no room at the inn LOL

We are going to be there from Dec 7-13 and booked at the 11 month window for SSR and have been waitlisted since 7 month for both AKV and VWL. We have gone this same week for the last two years and have been on the tale end of Pop Warner...does this really not impact the parks? Dining ADRS are awful right now for many places.

I was there last year Dec 1 to 7, staying at BWV and didn't even really notice them. A few here or there in the parks, but that's it. They don't stay in the DVC resorts.

They impact everything except DVC. We stayed 2 nights before going over to SSR and it was 2 nights of bedlam. There were fights, adults standing around outside the hotel rooms until all hours of the night drinking, smoking, very loud. In the parks there are hoards of kids, unruly kids, who don't know the difference between home behavior and public behavior. In the restaurants, it was horrible. One afternoon at the CP, it was just full of groups of Pop kids and chaperones. The yelling and throwing food was just ridiculous. We should have left. The wait staff kept apologizing and saying they would be leaving soon. Well, a table of about 25 teenagers left and these two female chaperones refused to pay the bill. They were demanding to pay children's price for these big kids and not to pay for some of them because "they didn't eat that much". This went on for over half of our meal and the CP manager gave in and let them pay what they wanted to.

Now, I have seen groups of young men who were very polite and just having a good time. But that was not the majority. There was lots and lots of discussion on this board. One of my relatives was at the Pop that week and there was a fist fight between coaches. They were taken away by the police. So, that is why I despise going on my vacation when Pop is there.

We're going Dec 11-14 and that weekend is excluded from all the promos - and it's been pretty booked up for quite a while, I keep checking.

We're already booked at BCV, Mousefest is that weekend, don't have any idea how many people that brings to WDW :confused3
