No ADRs in August?

We had planned a trip on 12th to the 21st. Now we don't know if we can go because of my new job. If we do go I will have less than a month to plan and we won't have made any ADRs. DH thinks that is fine as we probably won't want to eat too much in the heat anyway. We have room only ressies so that part is taken care of.

We will do mostly counter service and order groceries but I want to eat at a nice place at least once.

For those of you who have visited in August, what are my chances of a last minute seating while at Disneyworld? Do I go to the front desk or call the place I want to dine at?

Thanks!

I would try calling before you leave, as soon as you know if you're going. Even if it's the day before you leave.

I see you're staying at ASports, you can call dining by pressing the dining button on the phone in your room and make ADRs that way. You can call from a cell phone while you're in the parks, or go to Guest Services at any of the parks and they can check waht's available and make ADRs for you.

Thanks! That's just what I needed.
We had the dining plan last time and we felt trying to get all of the ADR's was too big of a rush. We found ourselves parkhopping just to eat dinner and were too stuffed after the big lunches.
This way I think we will feel more freedom even if I don't get to Hoop de doo!
And I can save money on not getting park hoppers.

Call and make your ADR's now. If you end up not being able to go on your trip, you can cancel the ADR's when you cancel your room ressie. Even if you go and decide you don't want to go to a particular ADR (too hot, too full, too tired) you can cancel it then.

I would much prefer to have a ressie to fall back on than to hope I can find somewhere/something to eat. :goodvibes

What they said! :goodvibes

We've done this.
Three years ago, DSis and I were there during FD, and we decided NOT to do FD because of the heat. We walked up to Crystal Palace sometime around 4, and waited about 30 minutes to be seated. We were among the last at that time. Walk-ups behind us were offered 8:45/9:00 times.

Two years ago, our family was on FD, and DH wanted fish and chips for lunch. We went to the fish and chip place beside Rose and Crown, and it was closed! :scared1: DH naively walked up to Rose and Crown at noon (me saying, "You won't get anything. You won't get anything) and asked to be seated. No problem. We waited 5 minutes.

Last year, we went again, but we weren't on FD. DSis was, and our trips coincided by 2 days. The day she came in, I called Disney Dining in the morning before we left ASMu....I was able to get a ressie at Concourse for 8:15. Since she was going for 7:00, I declined, but showed up to surprise her at the Contemporary giftshop. Then we asked if we could 'grow' her ressie by two. We had a blast.

I guess what I am trying to say is: 1) you can make ressies and then cancel if you don't go or 2) as long as you are flexible, you could call Disney Dining in the morning for ressies. Whatever you decide, I know that you'll have a great time!

And it looks like you'll be there BEFORE the free dining starts, so the restaurants shouldn't be crazy-busy like with FD.

I think it may be a good idea to grab an ADR or two now, but I think you'll probably have luck calling the morning of, also - as long as you're flexible with which place has an opening.

We've done successful morning-of-calls (August vets) at Boma and Flying Fish. Sci Fi, however, said "Talk to the hand."

I vote for the "morning of" call...I did that during our last vacation in November for Tony's..I tried for dinner reservations for months before..Nothing..I figured I had nothing to lose so I called the dining reservations number inside the MK and not only was it available but we had a choice ;)

The majority of cancellations happen the day before or the actual day of the reservation..in my experience.

i call last week to add some extra dinner ADRs to our list for august and got them all. if you eat late you should be fine to get them

Last year in June we also made some of are ARD's the morning of, I know Liberty Tree was one of them, and Boma was another, LTT was for Lunch (which is what we wanted) and Boma was for Dinner. Both were good times to eat at..
